Be aware that there are stupid people in every Nation. I've been to thailand 3 times and I always appreciate thai. I just wish that khmer, thai, lao could live side by side peacefully. Proud of being Cambodian cause it does not matter what others try to do to us, we are always coming back and standing strong! In the 70's Hanoi tried to eliminate us by terminated all of our intellectuals, educated, and destroyed our infrastructure as a nation. They thought that we'll never recover from those destruction but we did. Cambodian everywhere is standing up and rebuilding our country back. This expression has no meaning to you but it does has a lot of meaning to Cambodian!

I'll answer your question. Thailand speak Thai and Cambodia speak Khmer. Khmer was the first ethnic group of people who settled in SEA (1000 years before Thai people arrived. Khmer's language & culture were influenced by Hindu & Budhist from India. Thai or Tai came later. Once they settled down, Thai learned to adapt Khmer's culture. Thai's alphabets were derived from Khmer's alphabets. To answer your question, we speak different languages even though we share similar culture.

Yes, based on a historian, Tai is originally from China. Following the decline and fall of the Khmer empire in the 13th - 14th century, the Buddhist Tai Kingdoms of Sukhothai was formed, later on known as Siam. Finally in 1939 renamed to Thailand. Khmer lost vast majority of land to Thai. Does Khmer want to claim the land lost back? The answer is NO. Khmer only want Thailand to respect The Treaty of 1904 & 1907. Khmer must protect the current boundary and appreciate what we have.

I do agreed some of what u said on here, but Khmer people didn't lose some of the land but majority of the land. Land that stretch from Burma, Laos, Vietnam, current Thailand and all the way to part of Indonesia. I highly recommend that u read our history that written by a french author. they wrote it with no bias, and they the first white man to visit/ invades our country during the 15th century. that is why our people speak more french than English

By comparison even though Cambodia is smaller than Thailand in term of territory but when you do the math, cambodia still has more land per its people...

Cambodia 181,035 km2 =181,000 km2 14 million people

Thailand  513,120 km2= 513,000 km2

65 million people

181,000/14,000,000 = 0.0129 km2/person

513,000/65,000,000 = 0.0079 km2/person

Cambodia has more land per person.
