I find myself wondering where (in a survival situation) am I going to get gasoline to run it? Gas will probably be the first to go, and unless you've stockpiled some... well....
@2000jago We had a situation a few years ago in Quebec during an ice storm where this genny would have come in handy. Those who had a genny were sure glad they did.
@envirosponsible In a situation (like a storm) that you know will be temporary, OF COURSE it's useful to have a generator around not debating that.
My concern is in the context of something a little more permanent, from war/terrorism to apocalypse (for example).
I think in this case some form of infinitely renewable "natural" power would be a better investment of my money. Solar/wind etc.. (They may even work in a storm too!)

Oh come on. The 1998 ice storm was far from a survival situation. Kids were staking on the street. Peoples were partying in house that still had electricity. It was a redux of the holidays for everyone to enjoy.
It might have been a problem if it had lasted over a week. But you live here, you should be build for winter...
@KingCrimsonEpitaph thats the thing about technology, the old stuff may be ugly but itll run like a champ 50 years later. Nowadays it has to look sexy and lasts maybe a year.
There is a rust remover from Lee Valley that will take all the rust off without damaging the metal. Called Evaporust. Cheap and works really well. You could dunk parts and have it looking like new.
You got this from Ka Tee Gee? GTG? Gategy? Huh? I want one now and would like to check a store or website if I know what to google. Thanks for putting this up, it looks like a great little unit.
@marc0987654321 Ed got it off of Kijiji, which is similar to Craig's List. Don't know if Kijiji is in the US though. That's spelled K I J I J I and pronounced KeeJeeJee. It's Swahili for village and it's owned by ebay.
@envirosponsible Oh that's right....I have seen that site before, but forgot. Thanks anyway. If you see a brand or model number on the thing, please post. I appreciate the non-aggressive (rare) reply....
Have you seen the humless solar generator, really its just a batery pack for the solar pannel, thats what I've gathered from it. It would've been cool to see this little thing fire up.
ofc, allot of new products are also designed to fail right from the beginning... they call it "planned obsolescence", if something breaks you have to buy a new one or pay a bunch of money to get it repaired.
Dyson vacuums are notorious for this, if it's not one thing it's another...

Turning over that easy indicates lower compression. Which means that the engine will not have peak power when running.
