  • Bravo ! Thanks for this ! I wish we could return to that simple place and time that America used to be.

  • I was 8. Glued to that show (and Twilight Zone) every Friday night. That car, road, theme song, and those stories spoke to me in a huge way even then. Interstate was also just then being built through our city. I vividly remember the construction.. Lit fire smudge pots at night -no battery powered construction blinkers like now. That show bridged the 50's into the space age. The producers could not appreciate the importance of what they were capturing on film there in all those cities.

  • Last Friday KYTV Springfield Mo. did an awesome Route 66 Tribute. Oddly enough KY3 is an NBC station and not on Route 66; but properly on what was Route 60-166 KOLR 10 CBS also located in Springfield Mo. is on YY-Division St. which was on

Route 66 back in the 1920's until Route 66 was later moved to Kearney St..

This is an awesome tribute to The Mother Road.

  • Just brings back great memories. The song just makes me want to jump in my car with my wife and just go on a long road trip cross country.

  • Awesome video, I remember when this was on and my mom used to watch it. I was 7 when the show when off in 1964. I only remember watching bits and pieces of it and it was not until recently that I regained an interest in the show. I would have loved to done what these guys did. Just get in the car and drive across the country looking for one adventure after another. I will have to watch the entire series.

  • I was not a big fan of the show. I was more into shows like "man from Uncle".........I thought they drove a 56 vette in this show...What I wrong?? Nice vid.

  • Like you i was 9 years old when route 66 went on the air at 8:30 pm on friday nights. I never missed an episode. But I do wish That was buz at the end of the last episode.

    Great job

  • Thank you for this great tribute.

The Route 66 TV series is a treasured piece of Americana.

The 'Vette, Todd, Buzz, Link, the different places and stories done on location

around the USA--is American television at its best. Catch episode THIN WHITE LINE, where Marty Milner shows what a terrific actor he really is! There is a lot

of good in this series. Peace.

  • I had a dark blue 64 Corvette in 72 and drifted for a while. It kind of took over me. I was pretty young at the time and pretty jittery at that. It wasn't too much fun alone either. Had I had a girlfriend....maybe different? Drifting today would be so risky doing what I did.

Today Route 66 isn't the main drag and the Corvette that I had is a high priced toy for.......let's not go there. I will always enjoy the show and someday perhaps there will be re-runs on some cable channel.

  • Only a two seater.......hmmm............with Barbara Eden......have a pleasant bus ride, Glenn.

  • I enjoyed watching this show when I was a kid. I have always wanted to know what color were the corvette's in the show..If anyone knows the answer, please let me know.

  • @makemydammdaypunk The car was pale blue in the first season and beige in seasons 2-4. They thought beige showed better in black and white. Personally, I can't see a difference. Most people seem to think the car was red, though.

  • @ilovemartinmilner

Thanks Courtenay, Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

  • Great job!

Does anyone know when they will release Season 4?

  • Thank you all for your kind comments. I put this up on YouTube almost three years ago and am astounded by how positive the comments have been and how much appreciation there is out there for a TV series that sparked my creative potential when I was just a child. And as always, my thanks to Martin Milner and George Maharis (whom I have never met), and the late Glenn Corbett, for letting me tag along in the Corvette all these years.

  • superb!

  • Thank you very much for creating this tribute. From time to time while I was growing up, I would think of this theme song but could not remember the name and as such, had a hard time finding it. It was not until my son introduced me to youtube that I was able to locate it. Your tribute is on my 'Favourite's List'.

  • at 4:07 Did he almost geat T- Boned by a 49 Hudson.!

  • I never watched the show while it was on.I was a Flintstones fan.I've recently bought the entire series. The book about the series is total garbage. The internet gives more information.

  • EXCELLENT. FIVE STARS FOR YOU SIR.

  • You've done a fantastic job of capturing the essence of the series and a true tribute to Route 66. My compliments, sir, from a fan. I can't wait for Season Four to be released on DVD.

  • Great video, man! I have the two seasons that are on DVD, having been a road tripper and done the Route from Chicago to LA and back no fewer than 15 times over the past nearly-20 years... Seeing this show last year when I got the DVDs blew me away... and made me want to go buy an XLR-V, quit my life and head out on the road! ps. my mom used to watch this show first-run in Germany as a kid, and dreamt of how great the USA must be, years before moving here. TV as USA's best ambassador.

  • Check out the progression of the first season episodes; it's a contiguous series of dramas along the map route and it's geographic contiguitgy is referred to regularly in dialogue between Tod and Buzz. It's a trek across the American soul.

  • Nice summation of the series.

  • Loved the video. I didn't follow the show that closely at the time, but, as you mentioned, it represented the restlessness of youth and the sheer freedom that automobiles provided. Our political elites (here in the People's Republic of California) have disdain for the freedom that the automobile represents. Good bless you and the others here, who watched the show as children, and dreamed of freedom and exploration.

  • I drove route66 twice,1961,62,picked it up in IL. went all the way to LOS ANGELES.Got to see the real AMERICA before there were any bleeding heart liberals.I had a 53 mercury with a 59 caddy engine in it,I was hallin ass.

  • @schnellguy That had to be an epic trip. When I sometimes drive portions of the old route I can still see the non-maintained roads and shuttered businesses that line it. The latest outrage from our Commissars in Sacramento is to reduce "carbon emissions" by depopulating the suburbs and force people to live in the LA center area. No new housing in the 'burbs is to be allowed, charging people up to 1$ per mile to drive freeways during rush hour and tripling the gas taxes on their wish list.

  • @Broadsidejohn Thanks so much for your reply,You hit the nail on the head, you are right on the money.Be sure to vote in nov.although it may have gone past the point of no return.

  • @schnellguy The Communist/Progressives hate the notion of freedom that the car represents, and that Route 66 TV show documented. All their efforts are directed in this area. We who love freedom are made the enemies of the New State. There is no escaping the political link here. That's why all that will be are memories. Our children and grandchildren will have none of this in their minds and hearts, as we do. Go fast, 'Guy. Love you, Brother.

  • Great video. Brought back great memories. I had the good fortune to see some of the filming of the Thin Red Line when they were in Philadelphia. I sat across the street from the Marriott Motor Hotel on City Line Avenue and watched the filming. My mother worked for the licensing dept for the city, so I knew where some of the filming was done. What a thrill. Since it was my favorite show, it is something I will never forget. Thanks for the tribute. You did a great job.

  • Very nicely done tribute. I can't wait for season four to be released.

  • Nice video !

What is the music in the beginning ?

  • Excellent video with narration. I too was glued to the tv on Fri nights at 10:30 (CST) as an 11 yr old in 1960. I just loved the stories with Todd and Buzz and the awesome 'vette. Wow..little did I know back then that I'd be viewing a video of rtt 66 on a computer 49 yrs later. It's now 2009, I'm 60 yrs old and it's 11:20pm. I'm sleepy...good night all and thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  • This was really nice. I loved the show as a child and still play the theme song often in my car while driving.

  • I recently drove my 1966 Mustang from NJ to my new home in PA and at times during the 198 miles I played the theme from Route 66 and Nelson Riddle music. Thanks for this great piece about a great show that I also watched as a kid the same age as you...while my mom snoozed away... :)

  • Nice job! The serie was a great hit in Brazil. Love Ridle music. Thanks

  • buen trabajo, gracias.

  • I had my copy Nelson Riddles theme. Also I used to go to a bar just to and play the song a few times. What a great show and the morals of the stories that they taught. Great narration and what a nice voice you have too. Have you got some other pieces we can watch? Thank you . . .

  • This an excellent nostalgia piece so well put together. I loved the show and what at the time I thought it meant. Youth, freedom and a corvette to go anywhere I wanted with a good pal. I watched it from Mexico and later on a few times while in the states. I actually drove a portion of the route 66 my self in my shinny caddy on my way to Las Vegas coming from Los Angeles.

  • Ok, so I drive a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and not a 1960 Corvette. But everytime I pop in my cd of Nelson Riddle's Route 66 theme, I want to gun that jeep at 80 mph into a sunset horizon.

  • Well, well done.

Stirling Silliphant, Nelson Riddle's piece, a vette, the open road...how could you go wrong?

    Thanks for the creativity Onamkwah!

    Larry, Taiwan

  • As a young boy I loved this show. and yearned to hit the road in my corvette. But I got a MG and never looked back great job on your tribute to the show and the history. didnt know about the Vietnam vet part. I guess I was one of those troubled vets too!

  • This show was made back when tv, was actually TV. and not that Reality TV BS. I watched the 4 seasons of this show on a dvd collection box, and thought that show was the best. and this is coming from a person whose 15. Me. Great Video man.

  • @THOMASOAKMAN:

I applaud your excellent taste. It's comments like these that make me think there might be hope for the future after all. (No, I am not being sarcastic!) Well, that and having two talented and intelligent young sons. :-)

Yes, it was a great series--speaking as one who was not yet 8 when it premiered, but who still, thanks to my parents' open-mindedness (and my elder sister's insistence) got to watch it during its original airing.

    Thanks, Onamkwah!

  • @tobian84 Thanks bud! I'm always questioning my generations future, to be honest my generation scares me with how many people wouldn't be able to sit down and watch something like this, ya know? Talent and intelligent also tends to help, eh?

It was a fantastic series, ashame tv stars today would struggle to reproduce such a show. That's one of a few things that make me wish I was born back then, you got to see it all when it was actually cool.

    Take care, Oakman.

  • Great job. I love the song, still makes me think of when driving used to be fun. And I still covet that great car.

  • Yep, you can't go wrong with an early '60s Corvette :-)

  • Whoever you maybe, you did one hell of a good job, putting this together.Did you use apples final cut pro,in post. Anyway, you and I are about the same age,and i fully enjoyed seeing

this since i was 10yrs old as well.I can remember Friday nights and watching a new route 66 show, always something different.

  • Very impressive! Excellent summary of what the show was about and Very professionally done. Thanks!

I watched the show when I was a kid and the sophistication of the stories went over my head at the time too. But now, my appreciation of the show is even higher. (Back then, it was just two guys driving in a very cool car! LOL!)

    Thanks again!

  • Exelente he vuelto a tener seis años y soñar con la ruta 66.

  • WONDERFUL tribute. I was so pleased to find the music, which brings back some great memories. This piece is really a timeless classic. Thank you.

  • Thanks for bringing back some great memories. Loved the show, the car and the theme song. Never missed watching it and it's great to see this neat tribute.

Nelson Riddle -- man was magic with music.

  • Marcyrick1

For years Route 66 was my favorite TV show. I just never dreamed I'd be able to see the series on DVD. After 40 years, I still have a crush on George Maharis and Martin Milner!

  • Comment removed

  • This was the show that inspired me to become an actor. the gypsy lifestyle of these two, really

was what has kept me going all these yrs.Thankyou for cutting this video the way you did.Very professional!!

  • In my opinion, you have the best video on the show.you encapsulate all of the scoreand the dialogue, that made this show a winner in not only

in my heart, but i believe it was number 1 in the ratings.i listen to your clip every morning to get my heart going. you know i have lived and still do the life style these two led,not by choice, but iam lucky in this day of age i can.

  • Good film! I sort of remember the show but haven't seen it since first run, so. . .

So Milner marries and settles down to middle class life and becomes a cop. I could see how this would disappoint a 10 year old boy.

Riddle Rules, thanks for playing the hi-fi recording of the fabulous theme.

  • You brought up some old memories.I too felt the same way every friday night.I never missed a program.

  • Outstanding piece of work, like many it was the car to young to grasp much of the plot lines. Later in life I had 2 Vette's my father always joked the show was as close as I would get to owning one. Later when I brought home my 66 convert he and my mom would go get groceries in, just like a couple of young kids. Thanks a lot you made me feel good inside.

  • Thanks for sharing,

    great memories

  • Nice summation of the show itself, which I never saw as a kid. Was always most familiar with the Nelson Riddle theme music, which got me interested in the show.

  • This is a nice little tribute. 66 was a cool show. They tooled around the country in that 'Vette, and everything about the show was top notch. I liked it better with Maharis, but I liked it noetheless. It wasn't long before Milner traded in the 'Vette for an LAPD B&W. :)

  • Nicely done!

  • Take a bow, my friend! Very masterfully done, even updating that Sony Pictures Televison owns the rights to the series. Your personal closing logos were cool, too!

  • Chicago, St. Louis, Joplin, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Gallup, Winona, Flagstaff, Kingman, San Bernadino, Los Angeles.

  • That was GREAT!! Thanks

  • We own 1960 Vette, it's so cool to take my wife on trips down two-lane highways. That's sorta my life a metaphor for route 66, but I get the girl and the car! She's not really a Genie, but she has made all my dreams come true. (The car is sweet too.)

  • Well, I use I-95 south, I-85 south, and I-40 west. Did route 66 take a detour?

  • If you start from I-55 going south from Chicago, you'll see brown historical signs saying that this was the original Route 66. You'll see the same on I-44 going thru Joplin, MO & Tulsa, OK , and on I-40 starting in Oklahoms City through to San Bernadino,CA

  • Jas route 66 taken a detour. Where is it? I like to use interstate 95 &, I-85, and I-40.

  • This video was done very, very well. I was 13 years old when Route 66 went off the air and was told by my mother 'They lost their sponsor'. The last time I know of, re-runs were shown on 'Nick at Night' back in the eighties. Thanks for the memories!

  • probably buys it in Nam..

  • Those were better days. Yeah, Love the Vette! You did a nice job. Thanks!

  • I think this is one of the reasons I own a 62 vette today.

  • nice, thanks.... but personal trainer...and all these people..

  • Thanks for the memories. i really watched the series because of the car. But I likesd the story lines as well.

  • I was born in 1954 and was a bit too young to really get it then. I watched it while it was on the air, but remember it in reruns years later. I love shows like this and The Fugitive and Perry Mason, et al. Thanks, Dean!

  • Thank you so much for this video, I loved that show. Born in 1950 I can remember my dad going on the roof to turn the antenea for better reception, oh yes not only did you have to get up to change the channel you also had to turn the antenea. Great video.
