  • I'm off to JPN in April for 3 wks, 1st time. Is it worth getting one of these? Will I even be able to or do you need a credit account that would be very unlikely to give a non-resident?

Is it any cheaper to use than cash for travel? Oyster Card we have in London is 1/2 the price of cash fare.

Travel is my biggest worry (after the fact it's 121¥ = £1 at the moment), I expect to be in a& around Tokyo for most of my trip w/ probably a wkend away to a place near Fuji, any advice appreciated.

  • this card, "View SUICA" is a credit card version of SUICA card. if you wish fares to be added automatically via credit card, you can apply for this card.

However, if you're not staying in Japan for a long period, you might want to get a regular SUICA card without credit card function. you'll add fares on it manually using ticket veding machine. it's easy. every station has the machines.

  • yangj08:

Each train/bus ride will NOT be shown on your credit card bill.

When the stored fare goes lower than the minimum (this can be decided in advance), the fare is automatically refilled as a credit-card transaction. So, on your bill, there will only be the record of refilling; 5,000 yen for example.

  • So if I use my View Suica all my train, bus and subway rides in Japan show up on my credit card bill? Or is it a subway/train/bus pass with debit card functionality (my purchases show up on my pass's transaction history and i have to refill my balance instead of getting a monthly statement)?
