Thanks for the comment. Yes, the model was a bit fast with the two-stroke motor and prop selection. The enging has since been with a four-stroke engine that revs half as much so it now flies much more scale. Check out my other (more recent)videos of this aircraft flying in a more scale-like manner. Enjoy!
Ok.Thanks for the help.I really appreciate it.I just really like the way the cub looks but idk.I might go with the seagull 46. biplane.that looks like fun.thanks again for the help, nick
If I'm not mistaken this is the 40 size Cub. I have one too and am running a OS46ax with a 11X9 master airscrew prop. I became frustrated with my Cub since it was so easily "Tossed" in the slightest wind. Several crack-ups on take off nearly put me off flying it anymore. Then I figured I needed to add ballast so I added a little over a pound of weight right over the landing gear and presto change-O now I enjoy truly scale takeoffs and landings with no danger of being tossed. A fun flyer.
You are correct, this is the .40 size cub. After installing a Saito .72 which is quite a bit heavier that the .46 the aircraft flies much better. It is one of my faviorites and I have logged about 100 flights with it.
This video is actually the last flight with the two-stroke .46. After this was filmed I intalled the Saito. Search my channel for a video titled: Space City RC Katy Texas posted about a year ago to see the Cub with the Saito.
The wings slide on to a joiner tube and are then bolted on from within the cockpit (accessible via a hatch in the top of the fuselage). The wing struts are held in place (at the bottom of the fuselage near the main gear) with a strut pin set that was borrowed from the Hangar 9 Piper Pawnee. The strut pin set greatly reduces assembly time at the field..
I agree. The Evolution .46 lasted for only three gallons of fuel. It has since been replaced with a new Saito .72 four-stroke. I hope to get some video of the new engine this weekend.
This is the Plug-N-Play version available for about $400. You'll alsso need to buy a transmitter, receiver, and field support equipment. Total investment was about $750.
I know it looks like the prop nearly hit, but in reality I'm using an 11" prop so the aircraft would need a severely nose-down attitude to strike the prop when on the ground.
I would never start an engine with the prop level with my groin. Not good for procreation.

Yea i know. I love how you can here the wind turbulence from a distance with 1/4s or bigger planes.

Nice. I have a 1/4 RV4 from great planes powered by a .70 supertiger.
dirtriderjacob 1 year ago
@dirtriderjacob - I've always been fond of that sport bird, the RV4 looks like its flying 100 MPH while sitting still.

Very nice plane. Very nice flying.

@dirtriderjacob - Thanks! This plan now has about 125 flights on it and is now powered by a Saito .72. Great Sunday flyer...

Great Cub and video. Though one has to remember a real Cub flies at around 65 mph and lands at 30 mph. Isnt the model a little ...fast?

how does it fly with a evolution 46.? and what kind of aerobatics can you do with this airplane?thanks, nick
wtrcf123 2 years ago
Hi Nick:
The plane fliew well with the .46 but I have since replace the stock motor with a Saito .72 which is perfect for this plane.
This non-clipped wing Cub is not very aerobatic. The most I would attempt is loops, stall turns, and the occasional roll.
If you are looking for a high-wing aerobat, I would strongly recommend a Seagull Decathlon or Hangar 9 Taylorcraft over the Cub. Good Luck!

In this video, is it a Saito 72 4 stroke you're running or is it a 2 stroke? It sounds like a 2 stroke on the video.

Yes, this is the 80" wing span Hangar 9 Cub. I've got over 100 flight in this one - it's one of my favorites...

is this piper hard to fly? im thinking of getting one
Engine201 3 years ago
It's quite easy to fly, but take offs require careful technique. It is not a good first model, but it is a good second.
chrisfev01 3 years ago
if u like hangar-9s cub u need to get the 1/4 scale plug and play, thats what i went to and i love it.
