NO disrespect To JLT. GREAT VOCALIST. I think thought as one can see, HE was all about the commercialism and making money out of Purple. Paice and Lord were not. "I" dont think that makes them "jealous" as JLT claims. "I" think it makes them HONEST about what they want to create. Still and All Slaves and Masters was and IS an EXCELLENT album, and JLT's contribution to the ONGOING Purple legacy cant and shouldnt be overlooked
@rf396 Deep Purple were ALWAYS fighting with each other so I don't think it was honesty vs. commercialism. As Joe says, Ritchie loved the new direction too and it shows through his playing on this record. You can't accuse Ritchie of wanting to be more commercial
@HoosierMF Actually Blackmore and Gillan wre always fighting with each other. Im not Blackmore and I dont know his mind. He DID say that S&M was the best Rainbow Album Purple ever made. Take what you like from that. Doesnt matter to ME. I love Deep Purple regardless. Saw them on tour for Abandoned I think was years ago, totally unreal concert. So while the Mark II lineup is THE lineup to ME, I listen to Deep Purple no matter what Mark they're at.
@rf396 Yeah a lot of people like to call it Deep Rainbow but all I care about is whether the music is good or not. Just a pity that the S&M songs hardly ever got played live.
@HoosierMF Agreed. the BAND is a monster plain and simple. The fact that THE BAND continues to Chug WITH or WITHOUT Key members cannot be overlooked. I know of no other Monster band that could do it SUCCESSFULLY.
What is he fucking on about. What an ego. He made a great record with Rainbow - Straight Between the Eye was cool, as was Stone Cold but, Mark II and III were clearly the best of Purple.
Joe is good singer and it was good to see over the rainbow. But overrates himself thinking he was the best Deep Puple member and all eyes were on him and that made lord and paice jealous and blah, blah. What i know is that fans always loved Gillan best. For me its Coverdale!!!!!!But he was so good wheres his solo succesful career???Like Gillan and Coverdale!!!!!!Gillan filled a theatre with 3500 people in greece as a solo concert and Cov 15000 whith WS.Joe with OTR only 1000.
@vdoundakov I respectfully have to say, I disagree with Turner being a better fit for Rainbow. There wouldn't be a Rainbow a REAL Rainbow, not "Chicago-lite" without Dio.
Dozens of Power Metal bands have made careers out of emulating the Dio era sound...
And no one really credits the commercial, american radio friendly stage of Rainbow with the singer that REALLY started it, Graham Bonnet. Of course, it doesn't work in Joe's benefit to admit not everything is his idea.
its not that joe is a bad singer its just that he had a giant pair of shoes to fill.....the only rainbow singer who could have sung for purple would have been DIO-now that would have been interesting......
Joe is right. Ian Paice and Jon Lord ruined the band and the opportunity for Deep Purple to become commercially successful again. What have they done since Turner and Blackmore left and the single "King Of Dreams" was released? Uhhhhmmm... Nothing. What a sad story that the band had to end the way it did. They still had a chance, but oh well.
A chance to do what? To sell out their integrity and make shitty pop music for the sake of commercializing? To you really think the disgusting Survivor shit Jim Peterik writes was going to put Purple on top in 1993? He couldn't even make Survivor a hit album in the late 80s!
Just because the albums from the new haven't been hits doesn't mean they aren't any good. And by the way, not one album JLT ever sang on has been certfied by the RIAA. The radio played him, but the people didn't buy him.
@ShadowOfTheWave Lost their integrity? Seriously?. So they wanted Joe out because the focus at the time was to make music for money. Sooo. we ditch the best vocalist the band ever had, run off Ritchie, let Jon slip through the cracks and tour for the biggest part of a decade on cRapture of the Deep? For what? Artistic integrity or wait... no it was MONEY. I'm sorry but Deep Purple's artistic integrity was the thunder of Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord and whatever singer they wanted this year.
They KEPT their integrity by kicking Joe out. They wanted to be real artists and make THEIR music. Joe wanted commercial success which is why he wanted to bring in Jim Peterik to write radio friendly bullshit.
And to say Joe was their best singer is just laughable. He has range, but his voice is faceless and bland. He couldn't put an ounce of emotion into the songs if he tried. Gillan and Coverdale might not be as polished or perfect, but they are convincing.
I only care about the music. Listen to "Love conquers all" and tell me that´s not one of the greatest power ballads ever written. And JLT´s vocals... There´s no one like him.
What a fucking retard! Ritchie's a head case, Joe's his little bitch! purple was a classic band before and after this stand-in! made 'em dress better?? WTF? Joe you're a homo! wha...a blouse? how 'bout you bleach those rings under your eye and get some botox! regoddamndiculous! mark II is the fan favorite by a mile...only if Ritchie would pull his head outta his ass, enough elf music already, bust out the strat and ROCK while everybody's still alive! probably more likely for hell to freeze over!
@vicrattlehead07 That's 100% the truth. Joe is a tool. He wanted to turn one of the best rock'n'roll bands into a commercialized disaster. What a classless interview. Yeah, OK, Jon Lord was jealous of Joe. Yeah, right! Joe is douche. No one is jealous of him.
From "Black Knight": Jimi Jameson was offfered the job but turned it down. Terry Brock had impressed but rumors of a clash between Brock and Blackmore resulted in the singer walking out.
I like Joe Lynn Turner. I liked him in Rainbow and I liked him in Deep Purple. He is a great singer and he is dead right in this interview. I just read about this situation 5 min ago in a book called "Black Knight" Ritchie Blackmore, by Jerry Bloom. Too bad, not that Ian Gillan is a bad singer, but Joe could really sing a pop-rock song. Long live Turner.
My opinio is that Slaves & Masters is not a bad album but it depends of what you expect from Deep Purple. That was another incarnation of the band and if you want compare that album to what other bands were doing that year, it's clear that S&M is a little less than a winner.
Otherwise, I have a serious doubt about JLT singing qualities. To me he's not a great singer so he's not an help to a less than fantastic song...
Someone said earlier that the "singer that shall remain nameless" was Jimi Jamison. That may be right, but I've read that DP actually signed up Terry Brock from Strangeways only to kick him out before any concerts or recording because, to quote Jon Lord, he had "no charisma at all". Looking at the live Strangeways stuff on here, he's nowhere near as lively as any DP singer on stage. Guess we'll never know!
You're right on all counts there. Jamison's manager persuaded him to not join Deep Purple. By the time JLT joined, I think most of Purple were regretting the firing of Gillan. JLT therefore had a very hard job. I agree with him on some points - S & M was a great album. However, so was Battle Rages On. The Morse albums are from a different band. Joe is a very classy singer, whatever anyone says.
To those that are misguided to believe "sales" determines whether an album is good, well take a look at the "sales" of music today, mindless tripe such as Lady Gaga, absolute simple minded garbage, truly good or great artist's rarely will sell in today's market driven drivel. All based upon visual as opposed to artistry and true talent!!!!!!
What I don't get is why they were supposed to get more commercial. They could have become very famous and rich OR they could've made some fantastic albums. Unfortunately, they did neither.
So in the end it was a stupid decision. Sure the album is good enough BUT, it doesn't stand up to what Deep Purple had done in the past. Sure, Purpendicular was a great album, but everything else just hasn't been worth writing home about. And honestly, this album was really what screwed it all up.
That isn't what Deep Purple's about IMO. As a long time Purple fan, I want them to be NOTHING like AOR rock bands. Fashion or music wise.
The Battle Rages On is one of my favorite Deep Purple albums of the reunion era, and I know if JLT had been singing and writing the lyrics, it wouldn't have ben right.
Very few musicians would ever state that their intent was to be more commercial, and there is a reason for this.
Music is supposed to be played for yourself, not for fans or attracting attention. When someone first picks up an instrument or in Joe's case the microphone, they should be doing it because it is their passion and not to be in the spotlight.
Making pop music for the sake of making pop music limits creativity and makes the music synthetic and bland, aka Slaves and Masters.
Well that's exactly what RB did as Rainbow evolved - made the band more commercial. Think it through - from Dio to Turner via Bonnet. Compare "Tarot Woman" to "Street of Dreams" for example.
The singer that shall remain nameless was of course Jim Jamison. Jim was in the band but his record company Scotti Bros. wouldn't let him record or tour with Purple.
@jsb779 Yeah - I heard that. Never heard that Ritchie didn't think Jamison could cut it though until Joe started pouring forth with gems in this interview. Got to give him something though - he is nowhere hear as obnoxious here as he was on the "Heavy Metal Pioneers" video where he made his "somebody else's drivel" comment.
I remember first hearing that line from Joe, "drivel," and laughing aloud, I mean, I love him to death and he's a nice guy but he keeps putting his damn foot in his mouth. He be much better liked and appreciated if he was quieter. There's a great Deep Purple book out there you may enjoy, it goes into all kinds of detail, great interviews, etc. I believe it is called Smoke On The Water by Dave Thompson.
@jsb779 Thanks for the tip about the book - I am aware of it, but didn't think it could add to what is available on the net. There is another very good book about - although hard to get now - called "Deep Purple" by Chris Charlesworth. It only goes up to the end of Mk 4, but the story and photos are great. And Joe isn't in it :-)
@belarus84 I read an interview somewhere where he said that "Blackmore had too much respect for him to ask him". I think he's kidding himself, although there is an excellent version of "Street of Dreams" on here which he does with Blackmore's Night! I suspect that Ritchie wanted a heavy rock singer for SIUA and Doogie White fits that bill better than Joe!
@belarus84 ...I read somewhere that after already being in Rainbow and Purple, it would have been a step back to get Turner. I also believe Turner was contractually obligated to a project called Mother's Army at the time as well.
@belarus84 S & M was quite OK. As for live performances, JLT sang Mk II material very badly although Hush, Hey Joe and the S & M material sounded fine - he either couldn't sing Gillan material or didn't care. And there was that interview on "Heavy Metal Pioneers" when he referred to the old hits (read Made in Japan) as "someone else's drivel" - and he still sings Smoke on the Water today!! He is a good singer - but he's also an arrogant loudmouth.
Slaves & masters is a DECENT album not even close of BURN , MACHINE HEAD or even COME TASTE THE BAND but i think that is way better than everything that the MK VI , MK VII or MK VIII has been doing over the years.....please GILLAN stop embarasing yourself....,let the good DEEP PURPLE name rest
That piano riff from "The Cut Runs Deep" is actually a reworking of an improv by David Rosenthal during the live version of "Still I'm Sad" in the 70s (Munich 1977 for instance). This proves that Blackmore was really trying to do Deep Purple and slipping them Rainbow outtakes.
I loved this album. Some people expect too much. listen to the music, its not always solos and shit. this was a great albuma nd king of dreams is the catchiest song i've ever heard.
I like Slaves and Masters and I think JLT is singer with great voice, but he is overrating himself. I mean, come on! Even Ritchie himself said that In Rock, Fireball and Machine head are his favourite albums.
@Jaukebass Ok, so he hates it. But if you asked him that same question prior the release of Slaves and Masters, he would say what I have already written.
i dont get y everyone hates that album. i loved slaves and masters. i dont agree that its better then every deep purple album after that, but slaves masters is way too underrated
worst album DP ever released, after hearing this i now hate joe lynn turner alot more too.... so glad paice and lord and glover were against going too commercial
yeah right, wtf has dp done since. im sure jlt looses sleep knowing you dont like him. i bet if he were on the steet you would be the 1st in line for an autograph.
Watch all his facial expressions especially his mouth... he`s just about to cry all the time. Boy, how bitter can one get? The Lp was utterly crap, yet he insists on how great it was due to him singing on it. Little self acclaimend Mr. Superstar...
You must be joking! If it's not the worst, it's second only to the awful 'House of Blue Light'. Nowhere near as good as Gillan's return to form in 'Battle Rages On'
This album was pop-rock.
Jon Lord and Ian Paice threateened by Turner?!
This guy is seriously fooling himself. Minor talent, major ego.
Turner was 'okay' with Rainbow - some very good songs. Very weak as Deep Purple. I agree with many that it's not a real DP album. If only it had been David Coverdale.
I think many of you "boys" should go to bed now. JLT was chosen by Ritchie to sing in Deep Purple. When did that happen to YOU?! Honestly, I too think Ian Gillan is *the* right singer for Purple. However, when JLT is seeking work, and that's what it is; WORK, what is he supposed to do? Ask you boys for approval? He is stylish; Purple were/are slobs and SNOBS! Is JLT still somewhat embittered about not being successfull in the early '90's? Probably. All DP members/entertainers have egos!
Yes Ritchie picked him for Purple...but 1 listen to the godawful album they made together will prove to anyone that this was a horrendous error of judgement on Ritchie's part...good singer...totally wrong band.
Slobs and Snobs..could you explain why you say that?
Sure, UK planetking. Many English bands came "to the states" to "conquer" us Colonialists. How much more arrogant, or snobby can they be? If JLT says he sat with the crew during dinner, & not with the snobs in DP, I believe him. I witnessed some of their snobby behavior personally, during the 'House of Blue Light' tour. They did dress poorly too. Townshend/The Who; "We were kings coming to conquer America.." "The Floyds" living BIG in LA during 'The Wall' sessions; nanny's/maids/servants!
Haha, indeed! Rainbow with special guests Jon Lord and Ian Paice. Neither Ian or Jon liked Joe very much, they stood up to Blackmore and said that they should get Gillan back, along with the management, record label, poor record sales etc.
Rubbish! Have you even heard Joe sing the Deep Purple classsics on the 1991 tour? I have 20 live recordings from that tour, and apart from maybe 'Lazy' and 'Knocking At Your Backdoor' and the new songs, Joe butchered the classic songs they, like 'Burn', 'Black Night', 'Highway Star', 'Smoke On...'. He even tried 'Child In Time' and 'Space Truckin' in Tel Aviv 1991....AWFUL. Joe is a great singer, but he butchered the Deep Purple classics, and 98% of true Deep Purple fans know that's true.
Haha no wonder he didn't get along with malmsteen. EGO(size of mt everest) vs EGO(size of the milky way galaxy)=something thats not going to last very long.
Many thanks to "explorations" for pointing out to me that the utter shite Mr Blackmore is currently playing is "medieval music". In repsonse to the question of what "tree hugging hippie shit" means we'll i guess you've answered your own question! but surely you must agree that any one who plays in a "recorder group" is either still in play school or is well gay! I note no one has disagreed with the um pah band comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rock on!
Turner was nothing more than a "special appearance guest" for Purple in retrospect. He should have known this before deciding to join the band. He sounds awfully bitter about his departure and the return of Gillan, which should have been no surprise! S&M is middling to be honest, and I have no bias since I did enjoy some of his work with Rainbow. Anyway, you can't join a historic band 20 years into their career and think you are going to gain the rightful front man slot!
"I made everyone look better and dress better..." rofl.... who is this guy??? lol - "They were jelous" - hahaha Jon Lord and Glover are more of a musician than Joe Lyn will ever be - I liked the songs he did with purple - only credit to Joe Lyn's name as far as I'm concerned - but fo sho Jo Lyn's ego is way too big - count how many times he flicks his hair back like a vain woman lol...
Also, Turner's an idiot if he thinks Deep Purple could have ever conquered the pop charts the way that Aerosmith and Def Leppard did. Deep Purple, in the 70's, was always way heavier and had more of an edge than Aerosmith. Plus they didn't have the sex-appeal that Aerosmith had, its a totally different kind of band and Turner's and idiot for even trying to force Purple to play crappy AOR commercial rock. Purpendicular, Bananas and Rature of the Deep kick the crap out of Slaves and Masters.
Jeez what an egomaniac this guy is, and its not like he has a lot to back it up. If this guy's crowning achievement is being on the god-awful Slaves and Masters album, he really needs to re-evaluate his life. That album was the epitome of the Foreigner-esque cheese that Rainbow got into once the 80's came. The album IS totally forgotten by the public, and with good reason.
I know this may sound a bit bizarre, but I think it may have been Steve Walsh of Kansas. I recently heard Walsh in an interview (on an obscure German website) tell about auditioning for Deep Purple, around the time Turner was talking about, and that it didn't work out.
For the record, Walsh also auditioned for pre-Trevor Rabin Yes in the early 80s. The point being that Walsh has always been willing to look at other jobs, and not always where you'd expect him to belong.
Besides you seen Blackmore these days? playing some fucking aweful tree hugging, hippie shit. He plays in some um pah band where hasselhoff wouldn't look out of place with a chick who looks like an extra out of Robin Hood, who... plays the recorder!WTF! Fair play to JLT.
I know you're going to give me shit for the Blackmore comments, check out a recent interview on YT, you may see wot i mean!
Some of the later DP stuff turned me off, House of blue light album was one of them. Sounded to clean, no dirty hammond organ sound or awesome guitar solos. Even Ian P kept it pretty easy. Anyway, not heard the S&M album cos it wasn't Gillan singing, maybe I should check it out. Have seen JLT on the Rainbow Between the eyes DVD good music, good voice but JLT looks gay as fuck on stage!!! Seems like an alright bloke on this interview though.
TURNERI S A WANK NO DOUBT ABOUT IT...the worst Rainbow and Purple singer ever AND IF NOT THEN why didn't Ritchie ask him to sing on the final Rainbow album to date ......well i'll tell you why cos its because he's a posing poofy too much sunbed cos of the bags under his eyes and is my hair ok...are you sure..ok fanny of a singer making money out of all Purple and Rainbow achievments and exploiting Ritchie's son into the bargain
Actually it sounds pretty accurate to me. Turner was a breath of fresh air IMO. Purple are too old and dated...I mean in geological terms even. God is younger
What a Jackass. He's so full of shit. He makes it sound like he did Deep Purple a favor. But then again Ritchie had a lot to do with him being in the band too.
JLT is perfect for Rainbow but Ian Gillan is the only singer DP should have ever or ever to this day have. He is the voice of Deep Purple as Joe is the voice of Rainbow
i really enjoy joe's voice in rainbow lp's but i believe the original voice of rainbow is ronnie james dio, the one they started with, who by the way has a brilliant voice as well
i dont know what your talking about? Slaves and Masters was one of DPs best ever!!! Just did not get the publicity ...that is what happens dude!! The band really didnt want JLT cause he stole their thunder...but RB wanted him I know i was there!!! its a complex issue!!
hmmm I have it and dont remember it being that great, but Im going to dig it out again. Could be so much stuff out from other bands is the US at the time.
I think that it is normal for fans to have expectations around a name. It did not seem like Deep Purple to me, either. That is not to say I would not be OK with a whole new project involving those guys and some of the material. They are all great, but why do they have to keep the same name when the direction is changing that much?
Who gave him the right to talk about egos? I haven't heard the album, but I don't think it's neither much better or much worse then other Purple albums.
my favorite singer from rainbow. every time i see joe lyn turner he reminds me of i can't let you go and black masquerade.

Terry Brock had impressed but rumors of a clash between Brock and Blackmore resulted in the singer walking out.
repetitivemotion 1 year ago
I like Joe Lynn Turner. I liked him in Rainbow and I liked him in Deep Purple. He is a great singer and he is dead right in this interview. I just read about this situation 5 min ago in a book called "Black Knight" Ritchie Blackmore, by Jerry Bloom. Too bad, not that Ian Gillan is a bad singer, but Joe could really sing a pop-rock song. Long live Turner.
repetitivemotion 1 year ago
My opinio is that Slaves & Masters is not a bad album but it depends of what you expect from Deep Purple. That was another incarnation of the band and if you want compare that album to what other bands were doing that year, it's clear that S&M is a little less than a winner.
Otherwise, I have a serious doubt about JLT singing qualities. To me he's not a great singer so he's not an help to a less than fantastic song...
julesdb 2 years ago
Someone said earlier that the "singer that shall remain nameless" was Jimi Jamison. That may be right, but I've read that DP actually signed up Terry Brock from Strangeways only to kick him out before any concerts or recording because, to quote Jon Lord, he had "no charisma at all". Looking at the live Strangeways stuff on here, he's nowhere near as lively as any DP singer on stage. Guess we'll never know!
restlessheart1 2 years ago 2
You're right on all counts there. Jamison's manager persuaded him to not join Deep Purple. By the time JLT joined, I think most of Purple were regretting the firing of Gillan. JLT therefore had a very hard job. I agree with him on some points - S & M was a great album. However, so was Battle Rages On. The Morse albums are from a different band. Joe is a very classy singer, whatever anyone says.
GreenerHill 2 years ago
To those that are misguided to believe "sales" determines whether an album is good, well take a look at the "sales" of music today, mindless tripe such as Lady Gaga, absolute simple minded garbage, truly good or great artist's rarely will sell in today's market driven drivel. All based upon visual as opposed to artistry and true talent!!!!!!
mjstrat 2 years ago
@mjstrat
We're talking about sales in 1990..not 2010..this albums sales were well below previous Purple albums..doesn't that tell you something ?
If Joe thinks this album was so good why has he only ever performed one song from it ( King Of Dreams )since he was thrown out of DP ?
seventiesclassic 2 years ago

The Battle Rages On is one of my favorite Deep Purple albums of the reunion era, and I know if JLT had been singing and writing the lyrics, it wouldn't have ben right.

seventiesclassic 2 years ago
Very few musicians would ever state that their intent was to be more commercial, and there is a reason for this.
Music is supposed to be played for yourself, not for fans or attracting attention. When someone first picks up an instrument or in Joe's case the microphone, they should be doing it because it is their passion and not to be in the spotlight.
Making pop music for the sake of making pop music limits creativity and makes the music synthetic and bland, aka Slaves and Masters.
ShadowOfTheWave 2 years ago
Well that's exactly what RB did as Rainbow evolved - made the band more commercial. Think it through - from Dio to Turner via Bonnet. Compare "Tarot Woman" to "Street of Dreams" for example.
restlessheart1 2 years ago
Only when RB reinvented Rainbow with Doogie did he go back to the beginning. SIUA was the heaviest thing Rainbow did since RJD left the band.

The singer that shall remain nameless was of course Jim Jamison. Jim was in the band but his record company Scotti Bros. wouldn't let him record or tour with Purple.
jsb779 2 years ago
@jsb779 Yeah - I heard that. Never heard that Ritchie didn't think Jamison could cut it though until Joe started pouring forth with gems in this interview. Got to give him something though - he is nowhere hear as obnoxious here as he was on the "Heavy Metal Pioneers" video where he made his "somebody else's drivel" comment.
restlessheart1 2 years ago
I remember first hearing that line from Joe, "drivel," and laughing aloud, I mean, I love him to death and he's a nice guy but he keeps putting his damn foot in his mouth. He be much better liked and appreciated if he was quieter. There's a great Deep Purple book out there you may enjoy, it goes into all kinds of detail, great interviews, etc. I believe it is called Smoke On The Water by Dave Thompson.
jsb779 2 years ago
@jsb779 Thanks for the tip about the book - I am aware of it, but didn't think it could add to what is available on the net. There is another very good book about - although hard to get now - called "Deep Purple" by Chris Charlesworth. It only goes up to the end of Mk 4, but the story and photos are great. And Joe isn't in it :-)
restlessheart1 2 years ago
Oh, just one question... Please somebody answer it!
Why Joe hadn't been asked to sing on "Stranger in us all" if Blackmore liked him as he says?
belarus84 2 years ago
@belarus84 I read an interview somewhere where he said that "Blackmore had too much respect for him to ask him". I think he's kidding himself, although there is an excellent version of "Street of Dreams" on here which he does with Blackmore's Night! I suspect that Ritchie wanted a heavy rock singer for SIUA and Doogie White fits that bill better than Joe!
restlessheart1 2 years ago
Well, thanks a lot! :)
I totally agree with you... respects
belarus84 2 years ago
@belarus84 ...I read somewhere that after already being in Rainbow and Purple, it would have been a step back to get Turner. I also believe Turner was contractually obligated to a project called Mother's Army at the time as well.
jsb779 2 years ago
I like Slaves and Masters. There are some live Purple videos with Joe, and they sound pretty good!! (Budapest 1991, watch them!!)
He's a really good singer, and he was in much better condition than Gillan at that time... So, it's just matter of taste... IN MY OPINION, of course!!
belarus84 2 years ago
@belarus84 S & M was quite OK. As for live performances, JLT sang Mk II material very badly although Hush, Hey Joe and the S & M material sounded fine - he either couldn't sing Gillan material or didn't care. And there was that interview on "Heavy Metal Pioneers" when he referred to the old hits (read Made in Japan) as "someone else's drivel" - and he still sings Smoke on the Water today!! He is a good singer - but he's also an arrogant loudmouth.

bloodforgodz 2 years ago
That piano riff from "The Cut Runs Deep" is actually a reworking of an improv by David Rosenthal during the live version of "Still I'm Sad" in the 70s (Munich 1977 for instance). This proves that Blackmore was really trying to do Deep Purple and slipping them Rainbow outtakes.

Probably. All DP members/entertainers have egos!
shinystar46 2 years ago
Yes Ritchie picked him for Purple...but 1 listen to the godawful album they made together will prove to anyone that this was a horrendous error of judgement on Ritchie's part...good singer...totally wrong band.
Slobs and Snobs..could you explain why you say that?
theplanetking 2 years ago
Sure, UK planetking. Many English bands came "to the states" to "conquer" us Colonialists. How much more arrogant, or snobby can they be? If JLT says he sat with the crew during dinner, & not with the snobs in DP, I believe him. I witnessed some of their snobby behavior personally, during the 'House of Blue Light' tour. They did dress poorly too. Townshend/The Who; "We were kings coming to conquer America.." "The Floyds" living BIG in LA during 'The Wall' sessions; nanny's/maids/servants!

sole991 2 years ago
