Obviously this did not settle well with the Georgian government so since then there were constant clashes between Georgia and South Ossetia, Russian peace keepers were sent there. In 2008 when the whole world's attention was on the Olympics, Georgian attacked and the peace keepers held out until the army arrived and kicked Georgia's ass.

Obviously this did not settle well with the Georgian government so since then there were constant clashes between Georgia and South Ossetia, Russian peace keepers were sent there. In 2008 when the whole world's attention was on the Olympics, Georgian attacked and the peace keepers held out until the army arrived and kicked Georgia's ass.

8 million Soviet SOLDIERS died during WWII. That's 40% of Russia's war dead in that war and almost equivalent to the TOTAL number of soldiers killed in WWI. That's not a victory - that's a travesty. The reason so many Germans died is because 1) cold and deprivation killed a lot of them (as with Napoleon's Russian campaign) and 2) they would rather die than surrender to the Soviets. They knew the hell that awaited them if (as actually happened) the Soviets won.

You say satellites. Well, how was the Warsaw "Pact" not an empire? Russian troops were in all the Warsaw Pact countries, and all the leaders of those countries were Soviet puppets. Look what happened when Hungary tried to decouple itself from the Warsaw Pact in 1956: it was invaded by the USSR and its leaders were deposed. France left the military leadership of NATO and suffered no reprisals. In other words, NATO was a freely associative military alliance. The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet Empire.

So Russian totalitarianism defeated German totalitarianism. Some victory. Despite the fact that Russia was fighting only Germany (not Japan contrary to spetsnazi), it lost 20 million people. This is because the Russians are poor soldiers, communism never provided the food, clothing, or housing necessary to stave off mass death, and the Russian leadership didn't care a whit for sacrificing millions and millions of people.

I don't apologize for defeating Japan any more than I apologize for defeating Germany. The atomic bombs actually saved lives given Japan's fight-to-the-last-man tendencies. When (has) Russia threatened Poland? Ever heard of the partition of Poland? The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact? The Iron Curtain? I work with someone from L'viv, Ukraine. It used to be L'vov, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Before that it was Lwow, Poland. The changes are a manifestation of Russian expansion and imperialism. NATO has expanded because Eastern Europe wants to protect itself against expansionist Russia. Fuck Russia, the progenitor of all three world wars (including the Cold War).

If Russia wants to get America's attention
just threaten Israel by placing missiles in Syria. Russia can threaten Poland, western Europe or any other place it will have no effect. Many power brokers in the US have a greater allegiance(love) for Israel than America. Threaten precious Israel, however, will get their attention guaranteed; once the threat becomes real watch the US become much more cooperative on the missile shield, etc. Once Russia discovers this key it will be a lesson well learnt
