  • I think Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors of all time--he never gives a bad performance--but what's with the earring? Why do men wear them? What's the point?

  • he looks COMPLETELY different with long hair and no mustache

  • what is so cool is that he is himself and not like the Skipper 30 years after Gilligans island in his Skipper outfit lol, Dan is the shit man, Bene the best

  • he seems so lame as his usual british self

  • Talented sure, but this man is also eloquent and articulate. He's a genius on screen and a gentleman off it. <3 him <3 <3 <3

  • When will he ever be In The Actor's Studio?

  • DDL makes films. Nicolas Cage makes movies.

  • i love how he refers to Daniel Plainview as "I." Most "actors" distance themselves from their characters, but he goes all out.

  • gagagagnaut

  • Classy gent.

  • what an actor

  • "There will be blood" is one of a handful of films that compels the audience to go back and watch it, time and time again. It's haunting. And Plainview's face is captivating. The way Daniel Day-Lewis plays the character as driven and ambitious to the point of self-destruction, ruthless, calculating, deceitful, and misanthropic, and yet he still maintains principles and a steady work ethic. Throughout most of the movie he appears to love that little boy.

  • @scofieldinasia its my personal citizen kane. Plainview is infinitely interesting to watch. Its one of the few movies I can watch over and over and over and not grow tired of.

  • @LordPenguin7485 I am the exact same way. It is just as good as Citizen Kane, The Godfather, etc. I'm not being bold, I'm simply telling it the way it is. In time, this film will be remembered in their cloth.

  • @scofieldinasia He did love him, no matter what he said at the end. By that point in the movie his own hatreds that had "been built up little by little over the years" have manifested to a breaking point. He wanted to hurt his "son" with his words, just as he felt his "son" had hurt him with what he was doing. I've no doubt that, despite how he handled things, he had a genuine care for the boy.

  • @Mowglieboy69 You know you have a true masterpiece on your hands if it provokes theories like that. The best film I've seen so far this century and one of my very favourite films of all time. One of those very few miracles on celluloid.

  • @thatfilmgeekguy Agreed 100%.

  • I have abandoned this film. I then woke up and realised how great this film was.

  • she said drained LOL

  • he is one of the handful of actors that actually deserves every penny of the millions of dollars he got

  • @shaboopie12 he's soooooooooooo good

  • @shaboopie12

I agree, he deserved DOUBLE of whatever he made from that film. Then again, DDL is too classy to be caught up in money. His motivation is to contribute to his craft.

  • 5 people were hit on the head with a bolling pin. And they didn't like it

  • So weird how he can go from his accent to his character in TWBB, such a good actor

  • Pretty much the same exact personality as Daniel Plainview. All that's missing is the mustache. Seriously.

  • @bluestucco

You have got to be kidding. Please say you are kidding. How does this polite Anglo-Irish man with a soft clear voice remind you of Plainview? Obviously, you are just being cynical or are a Depp, Clooney, JOnes or Mortenson fan who is peeved that one of them didn't win the Oscar that year.

  • @ShannonSam1 I was trolling. Gotcha!

  • 5 people's milkshakes were drank by me.

  • How the fuck is this the same guy from there will be blood? Goddamn, one hell of a fucking actor.

  • I know exactly what he means about the ending. Once you get engulfed, stopping is difficult to cope with because it's like the world has stopped and you feel uneasy.

  • Daniel Day-Lewis drank 5 milkshakes.

  • @KissMyArs1 haaaaaa thats so original never thought of that , why do you even bother

  • a fucking amazing actor..

  • "thaank yooooooouu appreciate eeeeeeet"

  • If you told me Daniel Day Lewis has someone dub his lines in movies, I would believe you. His voice is nothing like Bill The Butcher's. Tone, pronunciation, pitch, tempo...not to mention the entire accent. Remarkable, really.

  • You have a great taste in films. Here are a few independant and foreign films you may not have seen: Have you seen them? if not you should. City of God, A Prophet, Before the Devil Knows Your Dead ( thats Sidney Lumet's final film)...btw Im going to see Tree of Life tonight, That looks epic.

  • @Drew00621 yeah it hasn't come out over here yet(tree of life) let me know if its good

  • @MrPopeye232323 I was disappointed with The Tree of Life. The trailer makes it look like an epic masterpiece whic it just isnt. Malik tried to channel Kubricks 2001, and malik just aint Kubrick. Dont get me wrong TOL is interesting, unique and worth seeing, but its not the masterpiece I expected. THemes are youth and the loss of innocence.

  • one of the greatest actors of all times. period.

  • Agree with @Drew00621

  • I read yesterday, that Liam Nesian slammed Daniel Day Lewis and Robert Deniro for their approach to method acting. This is from the guy who was in The A Team.

  • @CobainLennon8094 what article??? he shouldnt even speak their names...Liam Nesian isnt even in the same class

  • @CobainLennon8094 lol come on!! a team is one of the worst movies he was in, watch schindlers list and then come back..

  • @rockyfan94 Hey I used to like him, until I read what he said about DDL and Robert Deniro. Then I went and thought about his performances and they're all pretty much the same. The first time I saw Liam Neeson was in Dark Man. He's made a bunch of crappy movies. He was alright in Schindlers list, but he was like the 4th best actor in that movie.

  • It must have been a mind fuck to work with him in this film. One minute he's a maniacal oil tycoon, end scene and he's back to humble, almost shy, regular daniel

  • I love this Daniel Day-Lewis in the interview, but I'm jealous of the Daniel Day-Lewis in the movie There Will Be Blood. He is the eldest son of the God of Acting!!

  • the fact, that he never uses hes good looks in the movies just shows that he is one of the very few real actors. very few. but still, you cant miss that phisically he is on of the most beautiful ones too. incredibly attractive man.

  • lincoln is out next year

  • @fiftyshades

Thanks, gonna find this and watch it again tonight. Hope it's on Netflix or Amazon.

  • Just unbelivable. Somewhere Brando is shaking his head in amazment. Greatest living actor, bar none! Just a shame like the wonderful director Terrence Malick he only does a movie once a blue moon. That being said, big props for not selling out like some of the greats, and just make dog after dog for the money.

  • His performance in this movie was absolutely captivating. And I never use that word lol

  • Man, he looks COMPLETELY different with a moustache.

  • This guy is the best actor I have ever seen and I have watched so many movies it's shameful. I'm talking from Gunga Din when I was a boy to that stupid "human centipede' flick. I saw him years ago earlier in his career in a movie something like "sins of the father" or something where he was a jailed IRA member even then I knew he was destined for greatness.

  • It is just amazing to hear him talk and to really see that he is NOTHING like this character. Simply the best living actor today. Hands down.

  • Incorrect. Nolan can definitely handle DDL. The problem is if DDL would play a Batman villain, knowing how he immerses himself into the role of the character.. likr if he played HUSH or BLACK MASK..

    god help us all

  • 1:04

I just lost, so have you.

  • Comment removed

  • I love his voice !!

  • last of the mohicans is great but my fav and most moving film ever is ''in the name of the father''

  • @xcvcvxxcvcvx

ya that's the name I was looking for saw it yearsrs back. Watching it tonight! Thanks.

  • @ConservativeLogic cool bro man chek it out on ''let me watch this'' great site follow links and their ya go man

  • let me watch this '' dude is a great site follow links and watc it awesome

  • This film is an absolute masterpiece.

  • Heath Ledger (RIP) was so good, because he did exactly what D.D.Lewis does for every film he's in - He is the character on and off set and prepares himself for the role months in advance. At least that's what I think.

  • I think it's incredible that the man who played Gerry Conlon is the same who played Bill the butcher,Daniel Plainview,John Proctor..and so on..

Daniel Day-Lewis has to be one of the few great actors ever.

  • He is truly a master of his craft. I applaude you Mr. Day-Lewis, for all that you have done for the artistry of film.

  • he is the best actor on the planet.

  • Even if DDL was offered a part in TDK he would probably reject it. He's not into big blockbusters and is very picky when it comes to movies he's willing to star in.

  • @benanr90 gangs of new york and there will be blood arent block busters? what?

  • 4 People Don't Like DRAAAIIINNAAAAAGGGEEEE!!!!!

  • @chemicalbrotherkid I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!!! SLUUUUUUUUUUUURP!!!!!

  • I can't believe that's the same guy from TWBB.

  • @norxcontacts Ikr, I've never seen him before, other than in movies, and now I have even more respect for him b/c he REALLY becomes his characters.

  • @norxcontacts just goes to show why I think he is the greatest actor on earth! Na ever!

  • i cant believe how much he plays his characters so convincingly. seeing him talk like this then watching him as bill the butcher is astonishing. greatest actor ever.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE 100, hell yeah.i think the villain might be the black mask.

  • What makes this man such an artist is how well his soul can absorb, channel and fulfill the character he plays in each film to carry out the story line to the rightful conclusion. What a warm hearted nice guy also!

  • He's not Irish, his parents might be, but he was born in London and schooled in Kent, making him English, possibly of Irish descent...

  • @Kotsudaira

Only one of his parents is Irish...his dad (who was born in Ireland but raised in England). Daniel's mother is ENglish of Jewish/Eastern European background. After he moved to ireland in 93, DDL obtained dual Irish and English citizenship.

  • @ShannonSam1

    That tricksy bastard.

  • Well I hope the boom mic operator got sacked after this interview.........

  • I hope this is the next joker

  • you have a lot of good actors, you have some great actors, you have a few extraordinary actors, you have Daniel Day-Lewis

  • But he's not Irish.

  • @twinklepigify check wikipedia. he IS irish.

  • @Golfshooter I really dont think he is, I know his Dad, the famous poet guy was Irish but im pretty sure he was born and grew up here in the UK. I would check wikipedia, but i dont trust it.

  • Daniel is THE MAN....period. When I watched "In the Name of the Father" the first time in the early 90s....I cried like a little kid. And as Bill the Butcher..he made me shift in my seat somewhat. He has given us so much...Thank God for this actor. To me...the best...of our modern age.

  • @davehutchinson67 Amen!!

  • Without a doubt one of the greatest actors of our time. He chooses his roles and puts his soul into them. His performance in There Will Be Blood floored me. I was thinking about it for days. I still find myself going back and looking up scenes. I think it should have won the Oscar for Best Film instead of No Country For Old Men that year.

  • @hoodmatix

YES! My Left Foot and TWBB are the best acting showcases ever.

  • I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!!!!! I DRINK IT UPSHGSHSGHSGSHGSH!!!

  • so sweet and down-to-earth would love to have him as a neighbour

hard to believe that a soft spoken man like him can play psychos like bill the butcher!

  • Daniel Day-Lewis on both actors and crew: "You use yourself up [for the film]" -- Good insights on a master's philosophies.

  • Thumbs up for Daniel Day Lewis to play Andrew Ryan in Bioshock

  • what would daniel day do, drew?

  • he still looks great for his age!!

  • has anyone seen this guy on "in the name of the father"??? great acting aswell

  • there will be blood is one of the most great movies of our time, the cast, the acting, the directing, the photography, the script... really great movie

  • @pezelbuda tom hanks is right up there with him

  • Daniel Day Lewis performance in There Will Be Blood was the greatest performance Ive ever seen...and Ive seen tons of films

  • @Drew00621 nobody gives a shit what you think fuckhead

  • @bloodylip1219 4 people gave me thumbs up. So, at least 4 people care what I think. And btw who the fuck are you to talk shit to me? Ive never met you so why are you calling me names? Does it make you feel like a toughguy to talk shit from your keyboard anonomously? You must be real cool to waste your time sitting at your computer talking shit to people youve never met for no reason. I bet your a total coward and would never say anything like that in person. You're pathetic. lol.

  • @Drew00621 dude, that's the greatest comment ive ever seen. and ive seen tons of comments lol!

  • @bloodylip1219 Dude. Thankyou. And yes I get that your trying to mock me. Why do you pick fights and call people names over the internet? Its a serious question. I said nothing to you, I dont know you, and yet you insulted me. Why? Does it make you feel good?

  • @bloodylip1219 So you have a low self esteem so you spend your time insulting others so maybe you can feel better about yourself. Only thing is your a coward so you do your insulting anonomously behind your keyboard so you wont face the consquences. I truly feel sorry for you.

  • @bloodylip1219 So you have a low self esteem so you spend your time insulting others so maybe you can feel better about yourself. Only thing is your a coward so you do your insulting anonomously behind your keyboard so you wont face the consquences. I truly feel sorry for you. So did it work? By insulting me do you feel like a better person, like your not such failure. Keep trying.

  • @Drew00621 hey bro maybe you shouldnt post on youtube if your such a fragile human. you said "and ive seen a ton of movies" as if that somehow validated your opinion. I was simply pointing out that your a worthless moron. you seem to be the type of person who has low selfesteem and feels the need to compensate online. u could move on if you wish, or you could continue to anonymously type from behind your keyboard. i hope u dont cuz every post is more entertaining than the previous.

  • @bloodylip1219 Im done with you. Ive said my piece. I post onYoutube everyday and you're the first person to insult me for no reason. I'm not a "fragile human", You're just a piece of shit, but maybe one day you won't be so insecure that you have to insult people youve never met. Have a miserable life.

  • @Drew00621 You guys are both a waste of skin

  • @Drew00621 I'd say it was up there with Gangs of New York.

  • @Drew00621 Idk what a bout Bill The Butcher????

  • @MovieHound17 Its close. That was another amazing performance.

  • @Drew00621 couldn't agree more. He doesn't male that many films but the ones he makes he acts everyone off stage. An incredible actor who conducts himself with real humility, one of the finest in the business my a country mile.

  • @TheGardenEscape so true. Hes very picky about the roles he takes but when he takes one, he fully engrosses himself in the character. Ive read he doesnt break charcacter on set either. Hes truly a master. I havent seen My Left Foot. I gotta see that one.

  • @Drew00621 Agreed. Especially when you see him in interviews like this and see he doesn't talk or act anything like Daniel Plainview. A lot of actors you can tell just play themselves. "John Wayne" for expample. What makes DDL so special.

  • @Drew00621 have you seen A Clockwork Orange or Apocalypse Now...

  • @MrPopeye232323 yes I have seen them both. Apocalypse Now is the greatest Vietnam War ever in my opinion. Brando was incredible in that. Clockwork Orange is awesome too. Kubrick is a brilliant director.

  • @Drew00621 good... then its true.. you have seen a ton of films... me too.

  • @MrPopeye232323 hahah...nice. Those are good movies to test me on. I've seen every Kubrick film but not every Coppola film. My favorite directors are in no order: Kubrick, Scorcese, Siergio Leone, Paul Thomas Anderson, Darren Arnofsky...I may be forgetting a few. How bout u?

  • @Drew00621 mine are Quentin Tarantino,Scorsese,Stanley Kubrick,David Fincher,Francis Coppola,Oliver stone,The Coen Brother,Sergio Leone, Brian De Palma,Christopher Nolan,John Carpenter.. there are other who made really good movies but are not my favorite because its only a few movies that i like from them not most of them like i do with all the previous.. those directors would be Ridley Scott,Milos Forman,Frank Darabont, and terry gilliam o speaking of terry gilliam.. have you seen Fears and loa

  • @MrPopeye232323 wow you really know your shit. Fincher is great. Shawshank Redemption is my fav of all time but thats the only great film that Darabont has done that I've seen. Michael Mann is great too, Heat was a masterpiece. Coppola too. Godfather I, and II...I liked II better. Tarantino is good but I think he's running out of material. My all time favs are " Shawshank Redemption, Godfather II, Once Upon a Time in the West, There Will be Blood, Heat, Goodfellas, Carlitos Way (Depalmas best)

  • @Drew00621 oh yeah Michael mann he's good too.. oh and i have too see carlitos way lol i haven't seen it yet.. oh and have you seen fears and loathing in las vegas

  • @MrPopeye232323 Oh man Carlitos Way should be first on your list. Yes Ive seen Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. And Ive seen it under the influence on hallucinogens. Johnny Depp hit Hunter Thomson perfect. If you like F&L check out Where the Buffalo Roam. Hunter Thompson wrote it and its about his life.

  • @Drew00621 Fears and Loathing in las vegas...yeah i ran out of characters lol o and im not saying that there not good its just that i think they can do better projects... they've done some really good movies...blade runner, Fears and loathing,One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,The Shawshank Redemption... all perfect films and i want more films like that from them...

  • he's going to kick ass as lincoln fuck 2012 had better get here quick

  • if they ever made a metal gear solid movie, he would make a great ocelot

  • Thank you for sharing!! DD Lewis is brilliant! He is truly amazing and I can't wait to see the film.

  • wow ! His last words are so powerful

  • To those 4 ppl, I have to say this "Ohhhh, there will be blood MoFo's"

  • I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! i DRINK IT UP!

  • I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!

    I'VE ABANDONED MY BOY!

  • Daniel Day Lewis as the joker

  • As much as i enjoyed the dark knight. DDL is too good an actor for a role like that.

    Plainview FTW

  • No one expected Ledger to be as great as he was in the role. No one. So, give the benefit of the doubt to Hardy as Hugo as he most likely will be. DDL is definitely above the series.

  • @violentferret Heath Ledger was a amazing old soul so he was a huge loss to the world!Just in his 20s he acts like a 50yrold

  • the best actor in the world

  • He drank your milkshake.

  • his personality is waaaayyyyyyy different than the roles he has played. proves even more how great of an actor he is

  • I guess Lewis is gonna go with the Abraham Lincoln movie... I can't wait to see how he pulls that one off. Also, I dont think he's above the Dark knight series.. The movies were financial successes, and received mostly positive reviews. Christopher Nolan has become a very accomplished director, and the movies have even won awards... So how is DDlewis above these movies? Just because there based on comics?

  • well this is the greatest of all .. he is definitely the best performer .. and he deserves all milkshakes !

  • Lewis' next roll is as Abriham Lincoln in Spielgergs biopic.

  • both daniel day lewis and pta hated finishing the film and its true i wish i had done something as great as twbb but what i have done i was depressed about finishing

  • You can just tell how great of an actor he is, based on him describing how he feels about that dinner scene. About lack of spiritual nobility and all that.

  • He is an incredible actor, a dying breed. I read that he lives in character for months at a time using whatever accents and wearing period clothing as well.

  • by far the most talented actor ever.

  • Comment removed

  • Just watched this movie again and it just blew me away yet again. DDL's performance is betond extraordinary and I would struggle to point out a better film performance.

  • 4 people had their milkshake drunk by DDL.

  • If Christopher Nolan really wanted the third batman to surpass the dark knight, he needs to put Daniel Day Lewis as the main villain... Whatever the villain is.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 ...........he is not an easy man to hire.

  • @Taught77 it maybe that he is selective and i cant say that i blame him hollywood really isnt doing that many great roles anymore i would like to see him do more, but hollywood is digging its own grave in my opinion

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 Daniel Day-Lewis is such a selective actor, I doubt he'd agree to do a movie like Batman 3.

  • @LimemimeSims your right, he'd rather be abraham lincoln.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 wow....could you even begin to imagine how epic that would be

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 I'm sorry but Lewis is way above the Batman movies.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 Well, Daniel does his movies every 2-3 years apart (apparently) and he's drawn to less mainstream scripts. And he usually is able to choose what he works on too. So I doubt even Chris Nolan could force Daniel to work for him, though it'd be awesome if Daniel played Dr. Hugo Strange.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 Wow, let the Batman fanboy drooling begin. Brilliant idea mate! With someone as versatile and skilled as Day Lewis the possibilities are endless. What do you think the odds are of Day Lewis doing a blockbuster though? About 100 to 1 at best.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 Just have him play Daniel Plainview as a batman villian... er well I guess that wouldn't work because he'd beat batman in the first 8 minutes of filming... The butcher in about 6... Yeah, nevermind, DDL would not work-- he'd just beat batman too easily.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 No this would be a insult for Daniel Day Lewis

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 ewww are u fuking serious daniel day lewis would never do a sellout blockbuster like batman dear god. daniel day lewis is a actor not a movie star jezez

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 I do love Christopher Nolan and Batman, but I don't think Daniel would except a character like that. It's not his thing.

Maybe if he wanted to try something new, something he had never done before, but I doubt it.

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 Catwoman!

  • @FREAKNIZZLE100 Nolan couldn't handle Day-Lewis.

  • IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII DRINK! YOUUUUUUUUUUUUR MILKSHAKE!

  • His answer to the last question explains exactly why he's such an amazing actor.

    Best I've ever seen.

  • Imagine the intensity of watching him opposite Sean Penn.

  • He makes me wish I was a damn Brit
