@Zendout1 Well here stateside we lost another 31 men today via an RPG. America is tiring of this useless conflict; in fact with our fiscal situation we might as we'll let Europe fend for itself.
Peter Hitchens - as always good value for money even if you don't agree with everything he says.Check out the Mail on sunday website for his column there.
Here is the question that I would like asked, how come we are under such a severe threat, when we have such lax immigration and we don't know who's here and who isn't. Does the big brother state justify our threat of terrorism, i think it's frankly absurd!
I like Hitchens, but he is incorrect on this subject. The Brits have a minor contingent of troops in Afghanistan, and however small, the Brits still need to stand by their American Allies. 1 reason (for hitchens) is a trained cadre of soldiers who will train the following generation in this type of war.
His brother Christopher managed it with perfect equanimity -indeed insouciance-and in fact induced Peter to stutter and fumble like an addle-brained oaf throughout.
When I was about twelve, I would sometimes pin my little brother to the ground, hock a lugi directly above his face, and suck it back up just before the snot-string broke.
The Hitchens brothers' debate was the exact adult analogue of this.
Hitchens is being intentionally naive as to the true purpose of the Afgan intrusion
This is part of the international chess game who's moves might not be readily apparent
to me and you, but the wise men seem to know what they're doing

It comes to something when a frothing, right-wing reactionary talks more left-wing sense than most of the so-called "Labour" Party.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Hitchens is a prick - actually a genuinely disturbed man, in my view - but he's right on this issue.

How could anybody debate against Peter Hitchens when they're faced with that piercing stare?

lol i know right

possibly his brother, who's arguably the better debater. But i do agree with Peter Hitchens's stance on this subject.

@dancinmad
Arguably!?
*guffaw*
Did you *see* their debate?
I too am much closer to Peter's stance on the Iraq occupation, but don't confuse sympathy with rhetorical skill.
That debate was little short of an act of fratracide.

Not so terribly difficult.
