  • Mid night special was the bomb !

  • There'd be no "Michael Jackson" without Louis Johnson's deep bass lines on the "Thriller" album.

  • Long Live This Music .

  • thats so true and if you want to know real music instead of this bullshit you hear today hell you can't even find music like most places

  • back when the brothes played music and had a positive message

  • no computer crap, just good old talent and instruments for soul singers that had soul and all the real talent to go with it. I wish our kids could see this and learn their musical aspirations from good old fashioned artists, black or white or anything else those days should be the benchmark for musical skills.

  • incredibile musica e' per questo che sogniavo l' america proprio per questa musica GREAT MIUSIC

  • back in the day when the brothers had soul, talent, skill, played music and instruments and sang Wow

  • Wolfman Jack had it going on with the finest of the finest musicians on the Midnight Special!

  • Better than the studio version!!!!

  • Like, like, like. Class!

  • gosh, so sad that there are no bands like this anymore. May the funk be with u all.

  • This is why I keeps my Afro.

  • Is that a young Don Alias on percussion + vocals?

  • my man, the Pacs, turned me on to the Brothers....... Cool

  • man we really took this era for granted. so much talent out then that this song probably didn't crack the top ten. Stevie,Barry, Isaac, E.W.F, The Ojays, Roberta Flack..... and on and on...

  • @MsBrianbanks ... Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, The Chairmen of the Board, Sly & The Family Stone, The Spinners, The Honeycone, The Manhattans, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, The 3 Degrees, Billy Paul, The Miracles (after Smoky Robinson), Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, The 4 Tops, Candi Staton ... on and on ...

  • I lived through the 70's. Never knew what we had with The Midnight Special. EVERYBODY who was ANYBODY appeared.....LIVE. No lip-sync. No vocal enhancement.

  • @thespotteddog - Buy or Rent the discs. You won't be sorry. I treasure my copies!

  • Dude's rockin' the 'fro 70's style !

  • 4 persons were not good at all.....

  • One of my first records! Love it!

  • The Illest!!..one of the best choruses ever written in pop music!! Pure groove!!

  • This is some real soul and funk.... Check out the afros, Right on I'm rockin a n atural today.

  • The Brothers Johnson...(George and Lewis) were the original rhythm section of the Great Quincy Jones...Great Funk Band...and major competition to any other Funk band of the Early, to middle 70´s...I love the sound...

  • Oh hell yes! Thanks for posting.

  • Dang, hair!! Love it!!

  • Bands, good bands, good musicians. Real freakin music, God I miss this, and I was 10 whn this came out. But I love this horns, bass, real singing. Whr has it all gone???

  • Coolness!

  • Shit! look at those afros? A thing of beauty! Look at those fine black men?!

  • That was amazing especially when you see the horn section start to play. This is why I don't listen to the radio. Bruno Mars? Lady Gaga? they look like fools compared to this kind of stuff even though they're talented.

  • Quincy Jones connected with these guys producing their great studio albums...

  • Good ol Thunder Thumbs and Lightning Licks.... They were so underrated in the realm of the 70's funk. Louis (Bass) Played on Thriller and Off The Wall songs for MJ!

  • @BestMusicExpert Louis Johnson also co-wrote one or two of the songs on "Off The Wall" ("Burn This Disco Down", maybe?)

  • @57highland He co-wrote Get On The Floor with Michael. Thats the only one though. Rod Temperton wrote Burn This Disco Out.

  • Back then everyone was trying to get that extra inch on that fro!

  • I've talked to George Johnson. he's really cool and a great guy! Always willing to help his fellow man. REALLY!

  • @laroger0 He looks like a sweetheart. I would love to meet them both.!

  • Are those fur shoulder pads???

  • back in the day you had to bring it and the brothers johnson were good and had groove. school is in session

  • they were a good band

  • Lightning Licks and Thunder Thumbs, these guys were awesome and still are.

  • I love the funk outta this song!

  • is it me or was everyone except Re Run, Big Shirley, and Barry White "one-buck-o-five lbs"?

  • Classic! Great Quality!

  • 画像メッチャ綺麗~~☆

  • I feel very fortunate to have grown up with great song like this. Good music is still made today but not nearly as much. And no one today looks this cool on stage!

  • Brothers Johnson, Very underrated.

  • Now this was straight on and out of sight!!!! Very groovy baby thanks for sharing.

  • we had a good time in the 70's and 80's..

  • @72WATTSTAX Y E S W E H A D !

  • Yes , this is a great funk song!

    belfordmusic.blogspot.com

  • I could record a hit song today with all the computerized equipment that's available. The last decade for real music was the 80's. I'm glad I was alive and experienced the world & music (especially during the 70's & 80's)

  • This just kicks ass! It stands the test of time, looking and sounding so good each and every time. They got the funk and the groove and the soul and rock, this here is the whole damned package is what this is!

  • @w2npjvve .. straight!.. and something that the original (LP speaking) that was lacking was those Horns!!.. that set this vid off.. coooool stuff right there.. definetly good days to NEVER forget...............peace.

  • Very talented individuals, love this song....I miss this era!

  • Another GREAT song by Brothers Johnson!!

  • Boys and girls, those are REAL singers, REAL instruments, and REAL afros!!

  • @guiterry the times of real music...i love both the singers, instruments and afros to death...this is real..

  • @guiterry Too bad that doesn't exist these days. I'm talking about The instrments, not the Afros.

  • @kja427 I want the fros back too! : )

  • @kja427 iT only take one person too start the fire again BRING BACK THE FRO!!!!!!

  • @guiterry MAN YOU KNOW IT BRO!!!!! for the sake of us all please bring back MUSIC!!!!!!!!

  • @nirob Amen to the music!!!

  • @guiterry I love your post. My thought exactly...real music, real instrument, real talent. This is music you feel down in your soul. I cannot get enough. It is like therapy after a long week of work!! LOVE The Brothers

  • @guiterry Dammit, I remember some big-ass Afro's and the picks you used to "pick" them out to party size!

  • @guiterry yes sir kids now cant play one instrument and they need auto tune and god forbid if they have to sing live, No wonder they cant get any venues, looks like we will leave that to u2 rolling stones and bon jovi these guys are raking in millions, i sure miss those sinbad funk concerts

  • Trouble with this tune is , it was NOT LONG enough ! Love the "LOVE" artwork that was so dominant post '60's ..unfortunately disco & coccaine were just starting to hit big then. Lawyers , doctors , newscasters , business men ...the whole Country was on Coke . Now its caffein & speed that dominates ...highest stocks in the stock market are Coffee now . The USA's 2nd largest import after oil .

  • The ULTIMATE funk jam. This is great post with full instrument + band. One of my personal top 10 4lif!

  • Man, I remember TV was a lot of fun back in the 70´s when I was a kid. Seemed like things were happier back then.

  • louis Johnson playing a Alembic bass (I don't have 2,000 dollars) but if I won the lottery I would buy me 3 or of those great basses thanks for the upload allmusic1981

  • 70'S + FUNK= COOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful music!!!!!!

    music this good is GONE!

  • beautiful music!!!!!!

  • I always thought he had the perfect Afro! Lol

  • THE LEAD SINGER IS CARRYING THE TUNE A LITTLE LIKE LARRY GRAHAM

  • Wow, not one but TWO Suitcases on the stage...

  • The Bros Johnson were one of my favorites in Jr. High. Great performance of a great song. Sorry I missed this on MS. Thanks for the post.

  • Seriously, can you imagine any of todays "stars" coming anywhere near to this spirit and feeling of soul/funk music. No lypsincing/miming/voice adjustment or recorded backing tracks then, just Godadamn real music by real people.

  • @noddyneeds Right on brother............can anyone read music and play instruments anymore?

  • @noddyneeds I know its scary ! Watch and listen to their live performances ! PATHETIC !

  • @noddyneeds Indeed ! 90 % cant sing nor play an instrument !

  • @noddyneeds

Not at all. It doesn't take talent, just a loss of clothes, to sell records now. So sad where music came from and now has become. Pity.

  • @noddyneeds Nope I cannot

  • Man, this is a nice post. So many of their compliations have pictures from this performance now we can see the actual performance. Also its nice to see that their live band had been with them for so many years, at the very least up until 1981/82, I don't know about any time after that.

  • Cooooooooooooool ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

  • Wow ! Thank you for posting ☆☆☆☆☆Love it ☆☆☆☆☆

  • You can find on the Midnight Special compilation DVDs. midnight special.com

  • @allmusic1981 Amen

  • thank you for posting! is this from a dvd? if so, what is it called?
