  • Why is oosaka spelled おおさか instead of おうさか I thought that う made a letter double ( oh and there's いいえ, I just thought of that). How do you know when to use う?

  • @TheGuyFromChicago Hi, although both can be pronounced the same(おお= おう), both rules are valid. The combination in a word cannot be changed. You have to remember well that what is their combination, no other way to KNOW WHEN, just remember it well. Just like, why 'ate' but not 'eated', why 'wrote' but not 'writed', it's decided from the very beginning and cannot easily be changed.

  • I like the fact that this is random and makes me have to think about it! I also like how there are words with the Hiragana character in them so I can read that too! I'm studying for a Hiragana quiz and this helped a lot! :)

  • @khard12312 Thanks for the comment!

  • It's quite different to other videos!

    Nice!

    keep the good work!!

    Thank u

  • TEMPURA --> a japanese style fried shrimps / vegetables

  • Thank you. I'm just refreshing my memory. I took two semester of Japanese in college. It's pretty easy to memorize this stuff once you get the hang of it.

  • I wish I had a textbook. :P

  • *faint* i cant go through the alphebet i just copied omg thats too much help me pls if not i'll be going through 50 symbols just for a letter

  • Comment removed

  • actually there's only 46 characters of hiragana and 46 of katakana

    ...

try learning them one row at a time, like a i u e o for two weeks and then the k and g line the next two, adding on every feew weeks :3 don't forget to practice what you already learned too

  • theres 56 characters in both :D

  • normally we say there are 46 in both. what are the other 10 that you counted?

  • gya gyu gyo. ja ju jo. nya nyu nyo. bya byu byo. mya myu myo. rya ryu ryo. pya pyu pyo thats 25 so far lol :D

  • these are created base on the 46-character set, so we don't count the gya-gyu-gyo etc as 'base-character"

You can say they are additional.

    base-character just count upto 46.

  • Subarashii shashin !!!

Thank you so much for all your work It's really usefful !!

  • thank you!!

  • eh? theyre the wrong order.. its a i u e o ka ki ku ke ko sa shi su se so ta chi tsu te to na ni nu ne no ha hi fu he ho ma mi mu me mo ya yu yo ra ri ru re ro wa wo n
  • Hi, it's in random order.

To test if my students can remember the letters or not. A small test.

  • oh ^^''

  • Anyway, thank you

    you are so kind

  • nice

  • Thank you

  • this is maybe the most efficient way to learn this melodic language

  • oooo my goooooooood

  • um sorry if i get this wrong don't mean to offend anyone but i started learning Japanese 2 days ago and i was wondering does Japanese have 2 alphabets?

  • There ARE 2 sets of alphbets

    1) Hiragana

    2) Katakana

Both were created from Chinese characters. You should remember both of them. Sorry I still have no time to create the one for Katakana. But I think you can find many videos of such teaching from youtube.

  • grace - what's that letter behind the last one - behind the "ra"?

  • excuse me, do you mean in video 2?

  • sorry - didnt explain properly. What I meant was - in this video at 4.17 - what is the name of the letter behind the "ra". I think it is a "whu" - but what is that small round circle under the red line?

  • You should able to find that in your textbook. Adding a circle beside the "hu" --> pronounciation changed to PU

    Whole phrase is TE-N-PU-RA

Pronounciation will be similar to TEMPULA

Circle can be added to HA HI HU HE HO line. That will become PA PI PU PE PO

  • Thanks grace! ( I have to be careful about those tiny circles. .)

  • And here for your reference.

This circle, Japanese call it "ma-ru" which means a cirle.

And beside a circle, check your textbook, 2-dot can also be added beside HA-HI-HU-HE-HO to make it become BA-BI-BU-BE-BO.

And that 2-dot, Japanese call it Ten-ten which means dot-dot

  • Thanks again! You're a very good teacher. .

  • Don't give up!

  • It's called "maru", and you need it just to change the sound from "h" to "p"

  • exellent video, thank you!! Right now i know 10 hiragana characters :( i keep going...

  • Thank you for your comment!

  • No's example Nobita is a bad example.

Nobita is the name character in a popular children's cartoon (Comic Book/TV) called Doraemon.

Nobita is a boy who is visited by a robot from the future, Doraemon. Doraemon gives Nobita various tools/gadgets to help him with daily life, but somehow they always backfire or get him into trouble, halarity ensues :)

  • Hi, Nihonrocker.

In fact, my students was very happy to see Nobita on the screen.

Why Nobita gets into trouble is that he use the tools in a wrong way or when he greed something that he doesn't need.

Good story needs different kinds of characters.

  • too slow

  • For a beginner it's OK.

  • Hahaha, just the right pace for me. ^__~

  • welcome

  • i am a beginner...

  • interesting? keep going!

  • the music is too slow and the person sounds too meek... to much space in between the letters

  • Yes, for I want my student to try to speak it out first, then hear the sound to compare. The sound is not real human sound...it's simulation by computer software.

  • awesome idea, thanks for the vid! it's very nice to see each letter slowly, and the music's relaxing too!

  • what does nobida mean at the end?

  • No special meaning...just random

  • what does nobida at the end mean? with the picture of that kid

  • Why? you feel strange with this?

  • trsunami!!! hahaa! what i kind of example!!

  • Because when I was making this video, the biggest news at that time was the Thai-Tsunami 2006

  • i thought something like tsuki and then that, couldnt stop myself from laughing

  • haha...good! forget all the unhappy things, right?

  • hey it's not bad! at least laugh for a while is a good way to relax... hahaha

  • haha i know all this already and the tsunami made me laugh because of the peaceful background music and pictures and suddenly a tsunami! XD

  • Well... I don't want to insert too many sound effect haha

  • arigatoo, doozo yorishiku onegaishimasu

  • lol tsunami, i laughed at that.

  • Very very very helpful! Thank you.
