I thought I was the only person that considered the NES branding to be plausible. It would be a genius market strategy to draw back consumers lost with Wii. NES Stream, NES Viu, NES Dual and NES 2x (two fold) are names I think would fit nicely. What do you think?
(2/2)actually in a sense took a shot at Apple and mocked their iPod, iPad, and iPhone by merging the "Wii U" title with apple's successful brands and instead crafted it using the theory where they would simply call it Nintendo. I also believe the Wii U will be redesigned completely.
(1/2)Due to past devices and theories that you have stated surrounding nintendo's reluctence to call the Wii, the "Nintendo Wii" I think I have come up with an interesting title that compiles many of the current theories AND Nintendo past statements. Therefore it would be interesting if they
FreFreeWiiU.Co.CcHell Yes! The actual brand new Wii U is awesome! I recently received my very own in the mail recently At Zero Cost here: FreeWiiU.Co.Cc
With the recent comment Iwata made about how they don't consider Wii U to be a 'home console', maybe that's the reason for a potential name change.
"As for the Wii U, although this system is categorized in the general video game description of a home console system, the play styles the company is proposing with the Wii U are not limited to the ones which are available only in front of TV sets, so I believe that we will not use the term “home console system” for this hardware."
Operation rainfall email them any time with insight and great ideas. Don't thank me just doing my intertwine weaving to see all segments of NINTENDO click towards user satisfaction. Next it's the 3DS, though it doesn't seem to need any more steam clause the little engine that could is now on perpetual full steam drive. In a month maybe NINTENDO; am guessing E3, will show us it's relation to the Wii U.
See... I agree with you almost all the time, and I do see where you are coming from now. But the big problem Nintendo had with the "Wii U" is that it was apparently misleading for people, who seemed to think it was a new Wii peripheral. As for me, I dislike it because it lacks a sleekness. It's clumsy to see. And sounds like "Pee-yew." If they rebranded it as simply "Nintendo," or what you suggested, however, I would be as happy as a clam!
They could try calling it Wii Ultra, it has more of a "hardcore" appeal to it adn also gives of an impression like it's a next-gen wii rather than a new version.
Also, Nintendo U might work too. I think U is a very unique sort of letter to use and can catch attention well and it'll remind people of how unique the Wii was and so the casuals will look at it too. People look at the i from Apple, they'll certainly jump to a new letter beng used. Also, "nitendno" itself is a strong name
Super Wii really has no real meaning. Super Nintendo sounds good. Super Wii, not really.
I like the meaning behind WiiU. It's a "Wii" made for "You". This is what they wanted to accomplish with the original Wii. Now, they have the opportunity to push towards that goal.
The "one" argument I can accept against Wii U is the potential for it to cause some initial consumer confusion, but otherwise I think there is more benefit by relating it with Wii than distancing itself from it. If they change the name, then fine, but I've been okay with (and have gotten used to) the name Wii U as it is.
@KezayJS1 they could fix that up in the way they market. For instance, they could make it black and look quite different. They could show off it's 1080p graphics, something they'll catch casual attention becasue they are used to Wii Graphics. They could showcase some of the more mindblowing stuff the Wii U controller can do. etc. etc... They could also simply say "it's the successor to the Wii".
i dont mind the u since it sort of represents the controller but i think they should change the wii part, i would buy it either way but the logos you showed us would be in my opinion better than the current one,
I like your idea for a return to the name Nintendo Entertainment System, but what struck me as a possibility is naming it the "Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System".
That way, they could keep the U from Wii U in some form.
I like the name Wii U, no doubt about that - but if there was ever such a change, calling it the Ultra NES would make the most sense in satisfying those who want a new name and those that like the current name.
I believe in the name too, but it doesn't really reflect what the console is all about. (Yeah, you addressed that I know...) But with a console like this, I think it SHOULD reflect what the console is all about....
BTW, What ever happened to the name Nintendo "Stream?" I liked that.......I mean, you could "stream" content to your controller....right?
What about calling it "Nintendo 6" or "NES 6"? I think it sounds cool, not only that but it is more aesthetically competitive to the PS4...already 2 steps ahead ;)
I do agree that "Wii U" could work, but I think there are more pros to changing it. A brand new, fresh and brilliant name would have a better response. When someone wants to go and buy a brand new generation system, they wan't something that is fresh and new. It's more exciting that way. People would wanna say, "Hey guess what? I just got the new Nintendo (blank)."
In my opinion it's not a good name for a game platform. some great names of consoles of the past ( Gamecube, dreamcast etc) are much better than Wii U
Guys Nintendo always change the name of the consoles. It is okay whatever it will be it will be cool. "Ultra 64 - Nintendo 46" "Dolphin - Gamecube" "Revelution - Wii" "Wii U - ?"
I think they will change it to something like Wii 2 or Super Wii or Wii Pro something very near to Wii.
A 'cool' name like Ultra will alienate a lot of people - can you imagine your grandma saying Ultra? Well she won't buy one, either. Casuals are more fickle than the hardcore. The hardcore can see through the marketing when choosing their entertainment. Good games speak for themselves but casuals aren't listening, casuals are the ones who have to be advertised to.
I do think it's a stupid choice of name because to me it sounds like an...Addition to the Wii. It doesn't sound like a console in its own right. Why does that matter? Wii relied on non-gamers for its sales and I don't think people are going to go crazy for 'Wii U'.
Wii was first called Revolution when it first got revealed at E3, just like Kinect was first called Natal. So I'm pretty sure that the name will change.
i dont mind the name wii u honestly, most people i know that really hate the name are basically sony fans and nothing else. if they keep the name wii u i will buy the system, if they decide to change the name of the system even at the last second before e3, im going to buy the system. a name of a system dosent detour me away from wanting the system, the content of the system, and what the hardware itself can do is what i look for
@wildgun95 Interesting theory, but as someone who's worked with trademark and copyright registration, I can tell you that it's not possible to possess a trademark for the general use of a letter of the alphabet.
If that were the case and the makers of the uDraw tablet wanted to force Nintendo to stop using the name Wii U, they would have brought up a court case many, many months ago.
Additionally, Apple could have sued Nintendo over the Nintendo DSi if that were the case. :P
@gguru1 But you should also think about it Nintendo and u draw are competing for the same market or it could also be that Nintendo doesn't want to be associated with the U draw brand
any way I think they should change the name as i have seen many confused about what the product is
The problem with Wii Us name is that it's meaningless. It does nothing to excite anyone. The name for Wii was puzzling at first, but it was so different that it could stand on its own with a weird name. Wii U isn't as different from consoles as Wii was.Now Wii was cool and i'm wearing Mario pants right now, but its charm wore off for a lot of people. Many people think Wii U is just an addon for the Wii and is confusing. Branding wise many people won't even give it a look if related to wii
@thepermman As I've said in the video, the Wii U name comes off as "meaningless" and "unexciting" NOW in January 2012 because it has little context yet and Nintendo hasn't even begun to build up the brand itself with the public, let alone reveal the system beyond aside from the basics of its HD visuals and unique controller.
Based on what we know, I think its premature to judge the potential of a brand before it's been properly launched and promoted, rather than merely introduced.
@gguru1 the problem isn't with the U brand, the problem is with the Wii brand. I don't really care what Nintendo calls their systems, but I think from my surveying the crowd most people do.
