Ice Queen is right in the aspect of 2 things... a Proper lunge should start with feet hip width apart...try to do one shoulder length apart...I didn't try, but placed my feet there...just to do it. It's just silly feeling, and looking. Second, your knee should NOT pass your ANKLE. Keep it at 90 degrees or risk hurting your knees, then you won't be working out at all :)

She's also correct in that your knee should not go past your toe. You knee most certainly can go past your ankle, as the best place to put your knee is the middle of your foot. Having your knee behind your ankle can cause problems if there's too much strain similar to having your knee beyond your toes.
By the way, normally when people go to the gym in their "workout gear" it doesn't include excessive jewelry like rings bracelets huge ass earrings and a shit ton of makeup

Actually, your front leg is supposed to be at a right angle. You're putting far too much strain on your knee doing the lunge this way. You need to take a bigger step to begin with.
Hey there, just an FYI you want to make sure that you take a slightly bigger stride your knee is not a 90 degree angle despite that you are not over your toes you are short and not in correct 90 degree angle form...

@lilieballin bananas are good, really good, for the prevention of cramps. which will be major if your just starting out. ive been training jitsu for a year and if i skip a week of bananas i will cramp. if i eat bananas most of the week i will not cramp at all

@atktdc First off, Don't take this the wrong way but are you overweight? If so you'll want to do cardio to lose the fat, which will make your butt smaller... Working out the muscles on a specific body part won't make that body part smaller, just more defined and, depending on the weight, bigger.

@atktdc it will help your butt get more defined. what you really should be doing is more cardio and eat right, which will help you lose fat all over including your butt.

Are you sure your forward knee isn't supposed to be more perpendicular to the ground? It should be with the weight on the back of your food, more so then the ball.
I'm a man BTW - One question: You think for a man it's better to go easy on weights with lunges? I do them with 15 pound weights each side. Thing is my but sticks out quite a lot - my g-friend calls it perky so I guess it could be worse. But I'm worried that now that I've added 3 butt exercises (lunges, squats and leg raises) to my routine my ass is getting v toned but sticks out even more. Not sure I like it. better to do w-out the weights to keep tone but without the gangsta look behind?

But I'm worried that now that I've added 3 butt exercises (lunges, squats and leg raises) to my routine my ass is getting v toned but sticks out even more. Not sure I like it. better to do w-out the weights to keep tone but without the gangsta look behind?

hey sweetie, got a question though. Say, when you put your right leg forward (left stays behind), which thigh does the work? Cause I felt that my left thigh did the work? Is this the way you'll feel?

umm, when I do the lunges (without weights) my knees really hurt (my family also has weak knees :P). Does this mean I'm dong them wrong, or is it normal (or is it just that my knees are bad....)

Thanks for the post. I hate doing lunges b/c I concentrate more on the form (that I'm messing up) than the burn (which I feel more in my leg behind me. Is that correct?) Still I will conquer this exercise! How many reps/sets are effective for you? Should you do them slowly?

no, but if you always thing of asthma as a limitation you aint gonna do no exercises. I have asthma too and i'll be damned if i couldnt play soccer and run track because of it : )

but you can still do simple moderate exercises. you shuoldnt think so negatively just because you have a minor health issue. Life is just here but its up to you to make it have a direction. :)

SUGGESTION
Can you do a 20 min exercise work out that we can follow online.
Something that includes squats, lunges etc.
This would be a great daily workout that we could do from start to finish.
