He is allowed to lie about anything that happens behind the screen. Character's die... that's part of the fun. You get to create a brand new character and have brand new experiences. DCI is meant to keep track of gamer ranks and scores of all Wizards of the Coast sanctioned games and events, not to complain because you don't like what happened in DnD.

Using out of character knowledge of a module is called metagaming friend. Secondly the DM most likely used a suprise encounter specifically because you knew the module cover to cover. And finally, if your characters any gained experience or loot from defeating the encounter it's never a waste of resources.
