THis car was bought at the auction in manhime ,pa . I know the guy that built it . It;s not an l-88 it's a 454 look the numbers up it's a fake. And also it's not a yenko....
can you take some pics and send them to me, in a few weeks we are going 700 miles to pick up a yenko nova needing restoration, but it is a desert car, so no rust and we are getting it dirt cheap(3,000) because the owner doesn't know what yenko is, so i was hopping you could take some pics, because the nova is the 2nd most rare yenko (number one is the yenko corvair)so getting info isn't very easy.
Pretty sure none of the yenkos had the l-88 or l-89 they had the l72 corvette engine the l-88 was a corvette engine in the c2 bodys and made in 67-68 and they had aluminum heads. the l72 was the 425hp version.
awersome nova hopefully soon i can pull my dads old drag car apart and find out whats in it...... its a 427 dated 69 4 bolt main and has the copo camaro or chevelle intake on it..... not bad for a 68 chevy 2 that ran low 6s in the 1/8 in the 70s on a 10 in slick......
Very very nice clean Nova. Looks very similar to mine but I do not have the Yenko strips. Is your paint orange flame? Also, what kind of rims do you have I like them alot.
@metalcorefiend Base duration of 276/283 degrees measured at 0.015-inch tappet rise. valve lift measures 0.544/0.539 inch on the intake and exhaust lobes, respectively, while the valve lash is kept to a tight 0.012 inch.The lobe separation is ground at 112 degrees.
@metalcorefiend Cam Specs: Base duration of 276/283 degrees measured at 0.015-inch tappet rise. valve lift measures 0.544/0.539 inch on the intake and exhaust lobes, respectively, while the valve lash is kept to a tight 0.012 inch.The lobe separation is ground at 112 degrees.
All L-88 had ALUMINUM HEAD, in 1969 they revised the head to an open-chambered with the combustion chambers opened toward the spark plug and the exhaust valve side. they also used aluminum head on L-78 396 and the L-71 427 in 1968,in 1969 only on L-78.
so i take it that cam has the same specs as an l-88 cam??? how well dose it drive i have one and im thinking about using it in my 68 ss chevelle thanks
L88's were aluminum heads with the hotter cam, 850 carb, higher compression, rated 430 hp (ha,ha). The L89 option was aluminum heads on an otherwise stock 396-375 and 427-435.
@Jaraddeans Here's what I think I know.... L89 is just a tri power
L71 w/ aluminum heads. L88 is a higher performance engine which also was equipped w/ aluminum heads (open chambered (Hemi)). ZL1 was basically the same as an L88 except it had an aluminum block as well.
The best of all the Yenkos! a souped-up "grandma" car that was made into a killer that would eat alive anything that would dare challenge it at a stop light! simply bad ass!!!
man thats a bad ass car...i love nova's there one of my favorites...i have 1968 Chevy Nova with a Chevy 589 in it....that car is bad but this car will make that car piss its fuel injectors...mine does the quater in about 7.126 sec...thats the fastest ive ever done it...and that was at Bakersfield speedway in Cali
@2006tour Actually kbess228 is right the L88 427 had aluminum open chambered heads which accounts for the high compression. But you're also right about the L89 396cid motor. The engine codes get confusing w/ the 427's and 396's because there were so many different ones. The L88 was the highest h.p. engine made except for maybe the ZL1 all aluminum 427.
@2006tour Uhhhh if memory serves (I could be wrong, I am over 50 now) the L-89 option was just the aluminum heads, not the engine, and you could get it on the 427 also. I am also thinking that the L-88 did come with aluminum heads standard, but not sure on that.
I grew up in the town where these were made.Just a small place. The building is still there. I always love that Nova.Right across the street was the last Mercury only dealer in the United States.I believe his last year was 2000.Don't we all wish it was 1969 again for automobiles.I was only 12 years old then.
i sure do, i love just about all muscle and classics, instead of paying 10 grand for a 1st gen camaro rolling body, you could by a road runner, chevelle, and mustang fastback...if only i would have been born in 58 instead of 88...(sigh)
I could listen to that rumble all day...gorgeous car!
