That was part of the beauty of the game. Like Dragon's Lair in the arcade, people could actually just WATCH someone else playing and still get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
I remember when I first got a Playstation as a kid, this was one of the first games I got for it. I would play this, and my mom would actually watch me play because she thought this game was like a movie. Of course, the last video game she played when she was younger was Yar's Revenge;)
@uvitek1 Definitely agree. I saw someone recently saying they thought they looked bad in WC3 and I was stunned... to me they look as good as anything in a feature film, and honestly better than a lot of modern CGI (ironic given the backgrounds WERE CGI). The ones in the awful WC movie are DREADFUL by comparison. Heck, look at Thrakath's face when he kills Angel here, it's a big fur-covered puppet thing and yet I bought his emotion in that moment more than anything we got from Jar-Jar Binks!
@radams36 Angel's in the game for barely a minute, and I had a HUGE crush on her as a kid! Always wished there was a multiple path way to save her. :( (then again, always felt there was intended to be a multi-path for the 'traitor', either Cobra - brainwashed from her capture - or Hobbes - what we got - and they just ran out of time trying to implement it).
@Arthus850 If you have the regular DOS version (not the Kilrathi Saga version), you should be able to use DOSBox to play it (just Google for DOSBox and you'll find it).
I played this mission again and again trying to kill the prince without becoming stranded in space because I just couldn't accept that the game made you run back to your retreating carrier instead of engaging her killer. And this was no joke given the near-impossibility of the Behemoth mission itself.
But I finally got him. Loaded up an Arrow fighter with IFF missiles, afterburned into range, and let fly. Watched them get him in my rear-view as I was burning back to the carrier.
He's pretty easy to kill with a salvo of any sort of tracking missile. After-burn into range until you get a lock, then turn towards the Victory and after-burn up to full speed, flip on the auto-slide and turn around. Now you're flying backwards at 1400 kps with Thrak in your sights. Hit B to arm ALL missiles and fire everything you have at him. Watch him die.
It would be awesome if there was a movie of him getting picked up by the Kilrathi like a scrub.....but no.
Yep, I also found you could pound down Thrakhath's shields, lock on heatseekers and BOOM! Turn him into kitty litter, then afterburn back to the ship and land before the jump (but it was tough).
Made the scene with Paladin seem strange - "Did you realize what you almost did?" Uh, yeah, dude, I killed our biggest enemy pilot and still got back. What's your problem?
Sorry, no video, was a LONG time ago and I don't even have WC3 installed anymore. There wasn't really any 'trick', it was all about raw speed. You had to pound his shields down on full guns as fast as possible, fire off a missile or two (DON'T wait for them to hit), then full afterburn back to the Victory. Autoland as soon as you were in range of the ship, and that was it.
i got WC 3, 4 and 5. but 3 and 4 FUCKING dont work!!! i think 3 and 4 are better than 5. not the game-graphics but i think the scenes made with the bluescreen-technic look better than the ones without bluescreen in WC 5.
@coniaric wooowow...it´s only a game and of course only a story in a book. what do you describe sounds, that you feel real emotions for Angel. Maybe you better stop dreaming and take some time in the real world.

Hey, Oz,
My crush was directed more towards Ginger Lynn, but I may have been a bit older than you at the time :D.
But Angel was pretty cute, too.
radams36 5 months ago
@radams36 Ginger was hotter in lots of other things :P I just found it odd that 'Angel' caught my eye with so little screentime.

The graphics kind of contrast with the set budget, I think I know where the money went lol

This game had a cool story and great spacial effects for the time. It also had one off the best endings in a game to date!

I really hated that Roberts decided to do this. Blair's life spiraled down from this game onwards.

Even when I watched this video now, the Kilrathy costumes still looked AMAZING!

... indeed. The Kilrathi in the Wing Commander movie look like crap compare to these in Wing Commander 3.

@Kappalapostel I was about to post the same thing :) I was so disapointed when I saw them in the movie !!! I said to myself WTF have they done !!!

I agree. Loved both WC3 and WC4. Although, i'm a much oldschool player who enjoyed playing WC1 and WC2 (and the addon missions ofc) the most. :)

We tried cheating using the shift delete trick to win but alas, scripted sequences had us cornered.

I fought this mission again and again.
I gave my best to defend this big Behemoth.
I blew the hell out of my ship, but in the end I had to accept it:
There was no way to save Jeanette "Angel" Deveraux, the woman I knew since WC I an that really shocked me.
Blast the authors for that scene!
