  • 530 mph the first chute comes out, insane, bloodhound how they going to stop that at 1000 plus mph. how cool is wing comander andrew green . obe , raf. going a mire 600 mph. good luck bloodhound gang , my name is on the car , 10 quid , im up for a peice of history .

  • Fuck!!! could you do it again with a 1080p camera pliz???

  • @ibified The single most important factor in the allies not losing WW2 wasn't the introduction of the US into the European theatre via Normandy.....It was almost certainly (open to discussion) the Germans bailing out of Italians in Greece. Had the Wehrmacht launched Barbarossa on time (as the southern flank had to be secure) Moscow would have fallen before the crippling Winter. Stalin would have been captured (as he decided to stay put) and the rest would be...well...history.

  • I see you a Thrust SSC and raise you one SR-71 Blackbird developed by the American Lockheed Company.

  • @DRPKMH I'll see your SR-71 and raise you one Concorde. Why wear space suits when you can cruise at mach 2 dressed in a suit with a glass of champagne in your hand!!

(although the French did manage to totally fuck up the whole concorde thing...........bastards!)

  • @PrivateCustard

I think EVERYONE on this video can agree the French are bastards.

  • @DRPKMH Tremendous!! :)

  • @PrivateCustard if your talking about the crash , it wasnt anything to do with air france , alot of people died in that crash , you shouldnt blame the french , it had nothing to do with them , a component off of a previous plane at the airport blew the tyre and because of the immense pressure , it fired the rubber at the fuel container and then the engine ignited the fuel , causing it to crash , so no , it wasnt the french who fucked it up.

  • @glynhoyland The real problem was that the French loaded more wight onto the aircraft and then filled it with more fuel. They didn't writ this down in the log. Then the captain totally misjudged how much fuel he'd burn during taxiing. So, when the engine was shut down during takeoff, they were carrying significantly more weight than the pilots were expecting. One engine should be enough to take off, but they fucked it up from the tarmac onwards.

  • @PrivateCustard one engine was running , bullshit! , look at the photos of it taking off clearly borth were running , and that conclusion was used before they found out what caused it , the tyer hole matched the component that fell of the previous plane

  • @glynhoyland Both engines were running initially. Not only did the impact of a 5kg section of tyre fracture the fuel tank, another small piece of tyre broke the electrical wires to the landing gear. The wires sparked, the fuel ignited, they saw a fire warning light and shut down the engine. But, as the aircraft was heavier than they thought because of fucked up paperwork, they didn't know exactly what was going on. Combined with a melting wing, the crash was inevitable.

  • @glynhoyland Also, the French had a shitty record for concorde maintanance with tyre blowouts and engine problems occuring.

  • @PrivateCustard

every country that flew concorde had these problerms , every plane has those problerms , and sorry but what do you expect , there isnt many supersonic airliners , yeah theres only 2 , they fly faster than most military planes , theres bound to be a few problerms , if you want to carry this on inbox me becausen im sure other people

  • @glynhoyland No, we'll carry it on here if you want. I'll school you in public if you have the balls!

And just so you know, there were 20 concordes built in total.

  • @glynhoyland inbox me , im sure people dont want to read about us bitching

  • @ibified What kind of lies do your history teachers feed you in school dude? USA didn't win the war of 1812, so no you havent "kicked our ass twice" (we burnt down your whitehouse as punishment btw...they teach you about that ?)The nazi's never had a chance to set foot on Britains shores because we kicked their asses in the Battle of Britain. THAT is why we dont speak German, (guess they dont teach you that little fact either eh?)

Americans do however win the battle of talking crap on youtube.

  • I have to say its an impressive feat. However, the crap talking from the Brits here makes me laugh a bit. Keep in mind that it was us Yankee bastards who kicked your asses twice and SAVED your asses twice. Do you have to speak German in London today? You don't? You're welcome!

  • @ibified By the time you lot turned up, we'd already been through the blitz AND the Battle of Britain. The US joining in provided the ability to double-team the European mainland (something Hollywood has unforgivably forgotten as it waves the stars and stripes endlessly).

What saved us was Hitlers treachery, going back on his deal with Stalin and launching operation Barbarossa. The Russians fucked the Germans up during their winter. Hitlers tactical awareness abandoned him, and that saved us.

  • If its the brits want to feel superior that bad, we beat them in our infancy, being outnumbered by a nation 3:1. You can go test your supersonic cars in the UK, I would love to see that, that would blast across a strip of land, it would hit one of those hills, Fly straight, up then go nose down towards the earth like a rocket.

  • I love it how the british are so tempermental about there country's achievements. I saw a comment where some british man responded, " This is a total British achievement, stick that up your ass, Yankee". The USA put a man on the moon, invented the airplane, radio, television, phone, internet, nuclear power, democracy and cured polio, and yet the UK thinks they are brilliant because they built a car that can break the sound barrier. The SSC broke the record because it was designed by an American!!!!!

  • @racegt1 Radio - Marconi (Italian), Television - John Logie Baird (Scotland), Telephones - Alexander Graham Bell (Scotland), Internet - Tim Berners-Lee (England), nuclear power - Enrico Fermi (Italy), Democracy - Plato (Greece), Thrust SSC - Richard Noble (England).

Oh, and just to really piss on your cornflakes, you'd never have broken the sound barrier with the Bell X1 if you hadn't used the British designed all-moving tailplane.

F-, must do better, go back to school!

  • @PrivateCustard are we searching like years or geneaology? they were all born in america so therefore american

  • @PrivateCustard ..you are a top man my friend..you put that yank in his place...

  • @bobeagle007 To be honest, I can't stand all this UK/US flag waving bullshit. I'm all for giving credit where credit's due.........but you have to know who to give credit to. What is it they say again? Ahh yes, 'assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups'!

I'll sing the praises of any decent invention, regardless of its country of origin. But some people need schooling!

  • @PrivateCustard ..fair comment.

  • @PrivateCustard

Forget that, IF the British government hadn't been such RETARDS and come up with a completely BS excuse for canceling the project, then it would have been a BRITISH PLANE that would have broken the sound barrier first rather than Chuck Yeager in the Bell X-1!

  • @racegt1 ...oh yeah also you said you put a man on the moon, not without a shitload of help from the best nazi rocket scientists after ww2..NASA was built by the germans, you uneducated inbred redneck...

  • @bobeagle007 Just to add a little clarification......Wernher Von Braun was 'a', if not 'the' leading German rocketry scientist captured by the US after WW2. He developed the beginnings of the US space program before transforming into NASA. His work and legacy is still evident at the Redstone Arsenal Base near Huntsville Alabama. So, yes, it was a German who was absolutely instrumental in putting a 'man on the moon'.

  • @racegt1

Dude, I believe you just got OWNED as you Yanks are so want to say.... ALL of those things you mentioned, as PrivateCustard pointed out above, were invented by Brits or Europeans. And if it wasn't for a certain defecting former Nazi scientist, NASA wouldn't even EXIST, let along send men to the Moon!

    So I'll repeat.... OWNED. :)

  • Done on a budget of about 2.8 million , Noble was bankrupt to the tune of £600,000. Whatever americians say about the Budwieser rocket going supersonic.. It didn't. Thrust proved that by producing a sonic boom and being timed calibrated equipment measuring set distance by time and temperatures (cos Sonic speed is variable with temp). Bud had nothing that was designed to measure a cars speed properly. The speed trap figure for the bud (52 1/2 ft long) measured 660 MPH.. Take that Yanks..

  • So intense

  • Great stuff! Where did this take place?

  • Comment removed

  • Oh and I've just "unofficially" run 100m in 7.2s. Only my mate Dave was there to see it but he's a sound bloke so you'll all believe him. So I'm now faster than Usain Bolt! How exciting is that!

(That was sarcasm for those of you without detectors)

  • @doctordrew66 My sarcasm detector just exploded in a shower of springs, cogs and glass (none of which broke the sound barrier as they flew!)

  • @onebadchallenger super sonic car

  • @onebadchallenger SSC stands for super sonic car

  • 1:38 Sonic BOOM !

  • tell you what

hes lucky one of those engines didn't flame out, being so far apart,or they'd still be out there mopping him up....

  • lol id get the speed wobbles and eat shit goin that fast

  • this is a random guess but i think SSC stand for super sonic cars

  • Can you imagine what he 'd be like in bed?It would be like" nice night which is a change...struggling to get it up...coming to slight arousal ...you're looking lovely tonight dear.... looking for max... there's max arousal ...hope i can keep it up...condom in place...YES!!!..everything is going to be wonderful...looking for recovery crew!!"

  • @toeboe106 Best comment on any of my Thrust SSC uploads!!

  • @toeboe106 = Too funny

  • @toeboe106 Hahaha, probably the funniest comment ive ever read on youtube dude... "looking for a recovery crew" LOL.

  • @toeboe106

That's one funny comment, "looking for recovery crew"!

Andy Green, what a tough cookie

  • what do you call cheese thats not yours?

    Nacho Cheese

  • he brought it back on line at about 500 mph, amazing driving

  • lolwhat? it doesnt have a thrust revesral

  • @trufflepyg oh fuck i just wet my self u funnyzz

  • cooollllllssssssssss

  • Awesome vid! Peace

    God bless

  • No, it stands for Super Sonic Car

  • @onebadchallenger And then knocked off by the TKR

  • actually, this was NOT the first land vehicle to ever break the sound barrier, back in '85/'86 the Budweiser Rocket car broke the speed of sound. Unfortunately, since they did it just for the sake of doing so, it was not officially a 'sanctioned' run (must have two-way average conducted in certain amount of time) so it was done long ago, just not considered 'valid' due to non-sanction conformity

  • @plpremium and therefore it DIDN'T break the sound barrier. The British DH 108 Swallow broke the sound barrier in dives long before the Bell X1. Are you saying that the Bell X1 doesn't hold the record?

  • Simple answer, no!

This was an all British achievement.

  • LMFAO

  • driver/pilot must have been so bored geting driven home, faster faster faster

  • he almost bought the farm at 1:19

  • 1:42 do I hear police sirens? Goodluck on that car chase lol...

  • no that is an alien battleship trying to keep up with it :P

  • He was brickin' it

  • woooooo!

  • FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!~

  • So the actual brakes at the wheels aren't applied til 120mph? Crazy!

  • That dude was so calm driving/flying that thing. I'd be in a coma after doing that speed and needing new pants...

  • lol

  • Wow looks like it would be hard to park outside my house thou :D

  • Do you people even think before typing??

  • Lol hahahah awesome reply :P

  • Comment removed

  • the brits owned the yanks on this one

  • "ok officer, my right foot slipped"!

  • I think it was mounted inside the tail, probably behind curved glass or something.

  • it was obviously BUILT INTO the car ...

  • They have test cameras on supersonic aircraft.

  • Yooo..... how come he didn't break the fucken sound barrier?

  • He did. You won't hear a sonic boom as you're ahead of it.

  • Of course... you're already ahead of the sound... cool.

That pilot sounded TENSE. Wicked :)

  • A little yaw at that speed?! Holy shit! I wonder why they didn't put some T/Rs on it? Weight? WOW! Incredable. I guess ya don't worry about bird stike at gnd lvl...You're worried about 'lizard strikes'?

  • how could he be that calm i mwould shit myself goin that fast on the ground

  • The thing is going so fast the camera blackout

  • this would be just another car without the flux capacitor

  • did andy green really drive it or did he just sit in it? sorry if that sounds like a stupid question it just seems like a pain to steer that thing

  • He really had to drive that thing o.O

there should be some in-cockpit videos around, too...

  • Yup he drove it :)

You can see in this vid how far left the car shot at 1:16 (he's aiming down the white line), he was using full steering lock to get it back straight again - a scary thing to do at that speed!

Thrust SSC uses REAR steering btw, as the front of the car was too narrow to house a steering rack.

They perfected this type of steering mechanism by converting an old Mini and testing it!

  • LOLLLLL LMFAOO

  • Man that is too good!!! U should do standup!!! LMAO

  • taht is good man :D

  • There is far clearer onboard Thrust SSC footage than this, but you have to visit the Motor Museum in Coventry UK to see it. They have a simulator showing the entire onboard of the run, and it's awesome. There's no doubt this machine is travelling very, very fast for something on land. When he slows back down to 100 mph it looks as if he's standing still. I don't think I'd get away with sneaking a camera in, next time I visit, though. They're pretty strict about it. :( Nice post. Thanks.

  • Coventry does have it's good points. :D

  • Imagine being able to tell your grandkids you drove the SSC...

  • The funny thing is that if you watch the old Speed Racer cartoon they had the EXACT SAME DESIGN for a land speed record car!

  • hmmm

  • LMAO!!! Superb!

  • Is there a higher-quality version of this video somewhere?

  • LOFL....

  • It must be an amazing experience, but I would shit myself for sure :P

  • lol :D

  • rofling at etrius 6969

  • lol i would laugh if he zapped back to the past thats how fast he was going! LULZ!

  • your retarded, planes go at 950 miles an hour

  • depends what plane you are talking about airliners go at about 400-500mph (M0.74-86) . Concorde went at about 1040mph (M2.02)

  • I don't know why you are saying it in miles... but the worlds fastest plane goes at 7,000km an hour... it's called the black bird SR-71, take it from a pilot...

  • i'm saying it in miles because a knot is closer to a mph than km/h. You should know this as a pilot.

Also he was saying it as a generalisation.

I know what the fastest plane in the world is. A SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest plane in the world (M3.00).

P.S In brackets where there is M it means Mach

  • is there someone sitting in that thing? :O

    sholy shit!

  • yes dumbass

  • heyy, dont call me a dumbass dumbass!

  • you can crawl at 800 mph? (1300 km/h)

  • you think he could time travel ?

  • lets try breaking the speed of LIGHT!

  • possibly not possible

  • probably not probable >_>

  • haha good one

  • Not too much to say here...breaking the sound barrier is not such a big deal now,but breaking the sound barrier ON THE GRUOND is!!!

  • nice. how calm sounding is that guy

  • woah i think he might have got alteast 2G`s in that cockpit..nice vid tho good stuff for 1997.

  • try at least 5-6

  • omg lol thats pretty fucking awsome how fuckin scary must them bloody sounds be when your int he cockpit LOL! OH SHIZ WHATS HAPPENIN * camera 2 * sitting there playing space invaders going at 763 mph xD

  • it would be funny if he ejected if he could

  • That takes sheer guts! You can tell how much he was shitting himself by his voice and all!lol

  • imagine the amount of force which puses you down at that speed! youd end up a pancake!!!

  • a sry youre right... :/

  • great video but bad quality

  • It was 1997, this is as good as cameras on 763mph vehicles got back then!

  • hahaa fully

  • absolutly awesome,

the guy who driving andy ? what a guy !

  • Congratulations, American Eagle has landed, it can't fly.

  • lol he shud of done a handbrake drift around a huge boulder and drive up a sand dune to go flying into space!! lol

  • he sounds so scared 100 200 350 500 a crap o crap 600 650 "beep, beep" umm whats that noise beep beeo o-my, o -my 763 o good... thers the shoot... good shoot, no worries lol 5/5

  • English Wing Commanders have different kind of humor...

  • i guess he doesn't have to pay 10grand on his facelift now

  • And you come across a stone....

  • @RockyMHorse im guessing thats why the white line is there

  • Cam you imagian the simplest fuck up at that speed.

  • He's lucky HAL didn't take charge of that thing. Brilliant.

  • u see those clouds that appear a bit after it goes into afterburner? thats the sonic booms as it brakes the sound barrior

  • wat time was it?

  • Its not sonic booms... LOLLL, its just vapour... :/

  • vapour from where?

  • its just vapour that builds up from the heat and just stuff like that and just cos its going really fast aswell, it happens on normal passenger aircraft aswell on takeoff etc.

  • mmm yea but this is in the desert so... :\

  • Ya the desert is hot...

  • the vapour is caused by the commpression wave when you go supersonic, it causes any water vapour to condense.

When you see it on takeoff on a passenger plane the opposite is happening a sudden pressure drop is causing the visible vapour

  • awesome

  • hey u guys no that guy died in 2001 trying again blew car when hit sound barrier

    lol

  • Uuummm, no, none of that happened!

He actually broke the record for the fastest diesel vehicle in 2006.............twice!!!

  • lol

  • lol? what the hell is wrong with you even if that didn't happen

  • he's laughing at hameater

  • Such an expensive "car" with the worst video quality ever... hmmm i know they could have done better then that in '97 wtf

  • my god that would be so slow to drive. although i'm so shit with roads i'd have to stop and ask for directions lol!

  • poor quality

  • 1997 video technology + supersonic car = what we see here!

  • Of Course !

    I Forget this detail =]

    Bye

  • the engines did not even sweat it's the human factor that it's deficitary

lol he sounds so scared:) great vid of the engines

  • The engines were actually pretty hard worked. The original estimate on the thrust website quoted a top speed of 800mph, they got 763mph. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn't really that scared, his day job was flying Tornado's so the whole speed and danger thing was normal.

His breathing may sound laboured, but that's because his mic is in with his mask so it all sounds pretty loud.

Oh and the engines, they're Rolls Royce Spey 202's from the Phantom........serious kit!

  • you know that he has to lock the steering to one side during the whole thing? drift at over mach 1? awesome!

  • There's a cockpit video of that momant on youtube somewhere, amazing driving!

  • This bloke must have some big bollocks....

  • da hora
