Oh my god. Georges St. Pierre is such a beast. He's tall, so that gives him a major reach advantage in the standup. Matter of fact that's probably why Matt Serra didn't do much standup figting last time he took a shot at the belt. Pierres probably one of the best jujisto figters in the MMA sport. And he's a extremely strong for his weight class and that advantage comes out when he wrestles.

Sambo is Russia's national martial art. Of course Fedor did not agree with the terms of the UFC contract. Then Dana White says the 11 time Sambo champion sucks because he did not fight any top MMA fighters for two years.

GSP dominated Fitch. Fitch actually had control of round 2 at one point but after that, GSP controlled Fitch. I can't believe how great of a balance GSP has.. he cannot be taken down no matter how hard anyone tries.

so pretty much he broke him down on the ground he would take him down pound on him a little bit. then they would get up and gsp would use the jab and hit him until fitch got a gash on his eye. it was pretty much gsp beating on him for 5 rounds :]

I know you probably didn't read this because it's in a different comment, but I never really watched Patrick Cote and paid attention to what he can and can't do.
Irregardless, I said "unaminously" respect. I just don't respect folks when the only thing I know about them is what I see on TV and the internet. Georges St. Pierre, along with a handful of other athletes from various sports do I "unaminously" respect, even though I don't KNOW them. But their such good athletes, I don't care.

Oh my god. Georges St. Pierre is such a beast. He's tall, so that gives him a major reach advantage in the standup. Matter of fact that's probably why Matt Serra didn't do much standup figting last time he took a shot at the belt. Pierres probably one of the best jujisto figters in the MMA sport. And he's a extremely strong for his weight class and that advantage comes out when he wrestles.
Really he's the only canadian that I unaminously respect. Pulling for Pierre in UFC 87.

In a effort to create a MMA monopoly Pride was bought out by the UFC and they wanted to force the worlds #1 MMA Fighter stop competing in Sambo as part of his UFC contract.
Sambo is Russia's national martial art. Of course Fedor did not agree with the terms of the UFC contract. Then Dana White says the 11 time Sambo champion sucks because he did not fight any top MMA fighters for two years.
Randy Couture had to quit the UFC to get a chance to fight Fedor.

First off, Dana White has done a lot to save the sport of mixed martial arts.. without the UFC, it would've been dead back before the gracies were popular in the early 90's. I have a lot of respect for couture, but technically he does need to listen to dana because hes under his contract that he signed... And if fedor were to sign a contract for the UFC, thats what he would have to do too.. why would he still be able to fight anywhere else if hes getting paid to fight in the UFC?

you are taking one of st pierres weaker spots and pitting it against one of fitch's strongest... Fitch is a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu, so dont expect st pierre to be able to dominate on the mat like that
This will be an interesting matchup, i look to see st pierre comfortable on his feet keeping a lot of distance from fitch.. fitch has a lot of power and he wont be scared to lean in and grapple behind devastating haymakers.. it will be good, unless there is a flash KO, which is possible

I have been wondering about Fitch's black belt status in BJJ. I remember that at some point Fitch was still a purple belt while St. Pierre was(and still is) a brown belt. (I am almost 100% certain of this) Now, all of a sudden, Jon has achieved black belt status while Georges is still a brown belt???? Seems a bit quick to me. I almost wonder if he was awarded the black belt as a means of gaining a psychological advantage in this fight.

there are three criteria for advancing in BJJ... 1, live practice! you have to actually compete in the tournaments and apply the moves on a live opponent before they let you advance. 2, knowing the forms (as in most martial arts) by memorization and discipline.. and a third criteria is seniority, but usually maturity accounts for that. So fitch passing st pierres belt may simply mean hes been in more competitions as of late.
