  • Awesome, don't forget about Geothermal energy though. The energy that can be heat mined from the Earth is far more than solar and wind combined.

  • I am amazed that big wide-open Australia would not have been powered 100% with solar and wind over 50 years ago, and that the country actually still burns coal. Clearly, a whole bunch of subhuman morons who worship the coal industry religion exist in that country and need to be nuked or exterminated.

  • @mphello

    twerp

  • @timbojtimboj

    derp

    You got nothing to contribute.

  • @mphello

I'll try to analyse your idiotic point then; ok your 'amazed' Aus isn't 100% yet, you don't just put up wind turbines in these 'wide open' places and theres your energy for Sydney or w.e. sorted. How do you get this energy to the places that need it? on a bus? no! A huge amount of infrastructure is needed. What about existing buildings that use carbon emitters? knock em down? NO! You can't just build these renewable energy producers anywhere, NIMBY's!

    'Nuked or exterminated'? what?!

  • @timbojtimboj

    Your idiotic assumptions: non-electric vehicles.

No - I'm talking about ELECTRIC vehicles.

  • @mphello

I literally don't know what you are on. What assumptions? Read my comment again.

  • Brilliant plan! Great work to the team at BZE, I am doing all I can to spread the word. In fact we organised a night at a coffee shop here in West End Brisbane and invited one of the volunteer presenters along to give the 40min presentation. Go!

  • @neephius Stop trolling. No one would make a post like that seriously.

  • I'm sick of people saying you can't get baseload power from renewables. It's completely possible with solar thermal. The only thing missing is political will. Let's stop making excuses and get behind this;

  • kapsi is right, if we don't make the transition to 100% renewable energy then our economy is stuffed - it will get hit by climate change impacts and oil price spikes. The poor will suffer the most - it's time for zero emissions!

  • I heard about this on the Drum with Dr Karl and my head did a backflip. Baseline? Costed? 10yrs? 1/3 the price?

AMEN brother! (Says the atheist). Why can't a politician pick up this report and go "ok let's do it".

Oh and I agree about Cate Blanchett (no offense Cate) being silly in this vid. Keep the science science, leave pop culture to the side.

  • Zero Carbon Britain 2030 with Paul Allen Centre of Alternative Energy watch?v=q9GxDBbJlBA

  • Zero Carbon!

It’s the only way to go. In Australia and across the rest of the world.

  • This discussion on Cate Blanchett is just not relevant compared to the message in the video - that we can repower our economy with 100% renewable energy starting today - no need for fossil fuels or nuclear.

And to give Blanchett some credit - she is actually quite heavily involved in environmental and climate change issues (and has been for some years) & from what I have heard her say she is quite well informed. I think it is great that she is there together with scientific & technical experts

  • @selwynr I agree with pete. There are advantages to using recognisable figures to generate mainstream support, and i do not reject the utility of promoting the product using performers etc as part of an overall strategy, but if you want to win the support of INTELLIGENT mainstream Australia, the people who control industries and money, it is critical to underline the support, and involvement of leading intellectuals whose opinion is backed by expertise.

  • Awesome!!! Now there is NO excuse for our politicians to get moving and plan the phasing out of coal and it's replacement by renewables. The time is right now!

  • Excellent - BUT, following "..high profile australians.." with a picture of Cate Blancett is absolutely absurd and kills the integrity. Reminds me of FAGs in Team America. Follow such a statement with Peter Doherty, Nobel Laureate or Sir Gustav Nossal.

  • @pliddi Kate Blanchett is the perfect choice, I have to disagree. The general public don't know who our great scientists are but they do know one of our great performing artists. This is something that needs to go mainstream in a massive way and I think using Kate Blanchett is totally appropriate. So please, get behind this, we already have an enemy, the coal lobby and their enabling politicians. Let's focus on how awesome BZE are! These guys are my heroes!

  • @selwynr The serious but accessible docu atmosphere cast with this video is shattered when the first witness called to the stand is a fairly random picture and a typed words from someone with no generally associable credibility or authority. I nearly closed it and dismissed this video as crackpot propaganda at this point. The later in-person testimonies from real scientific experts, on the other hand, is very persuasive, everyone knows what the nobel prize is!

  • Let's get some political guts and DO THIS!!!! C'mon you pollies and Captains of industry. Get off your backsides and MOVE FORWARD into a CARBON EMISSION FREE FUTURE!!

  • Now how do we get this to go viral?

  • Awesome!

  • Very impressive!
