This is scary. My heart aches for the people and we should abide by their laws butt mixed people are the most beautiful people in the world. We need to educate not hate.
Anytime you overthrow a Monarchy you've done a good thing. No room in this world for "Kingdoms", Monarchs , "Kings", Royal Families or any of that antiquated idol worshipping nonsense. Obviously, you've wasted precious time living in the past. Gone are the human sacrifices, animistic god worshiping and uncivilized stagnation produced by primitive and outdated tribal society . You got your asses kicked, it's all part of the human drama. Who were you warring with? Each other? Be the 50th and live
So if my great great great grand father was born here in 1879 am I Hawaiian if I got blond hair and blue eyes??? If your great grand father came hear by way of the Chinese / Japanese migration of 1901 - 1908 for cheap sugarcane labor are you Hawaiian ?? This is based on color have they located the D.N.A. " Hawaiian strain " or can someone born in Tahiti 2 years ago pass as Hawaiian , this is gonna be a joke !!
I am who I am, they cannot change that. Even if written, it means nothing unless it's in my heart. The blood that my heart pumps is true, and true I remain to that blood.
Well as evil as you may perceive america to be, I would propose to you that it is the least evil country in the history of mankind. Certainly the immigration patterns around the world for the past 100 years point to that conclusion, unless you believe that people are somehow attracted to evil, and will suffer greatly in order to be subject to it.
So although we may not have pre-1778 history in any form other than oral tradition, the missionaries and native Hawaiians turned a stone age society into an independent industrial nation in less than a generation. From 1810 and on, we have a fairly good record of Hawaiian history, but much of it is ignored when it doesn't fit the "evil white man" narrative used to promote a victimhood mentality.
Well, actually, native Hawaiians were instrumental in recording their history and developing an alphabet in conjunction with the missionaries who landed in 1820. In fact, the Kingdom of Hawaii had a 90% literacy rate -> native Hawaiians learned quickly and well. There were native Hawaiian newspapers all the way up to the 1950s.
You do know that neither Kalakaua nor Liliuokalani were part of Kamehameha's bloodline, right? Kalakaua was elected (albeit in a stolen election), and Liliuokalani was designated as successor by Kalakaua.
The Kingdom of Hawaii fell to local opposition, not external forces, and the subsequent Republic of Hawaii survived an antagonistic and unfriendly United States administration for 4 years.
3 years and you're forgetting the arms dealing that Dole was doing and you forgot that the Provisional Government was a Protectorate of the US on Feb 1, 1893. It survived under American protection. You really need to read "Nation Within".
American protection was removed on April 1st, 1893, and the Provisional Government and the Republic of Hawaii endured the antagonistic United States Administration of Grover Cleveland independently till 1898.
It was Cleveland and his minister Gresham that probably allowed the arms shipment to the rebels of 1895, in an attempt to undermine the sovereign and independent Republic of Hawaii.
@kauinoapono Hey genius, those "local" opponents were NOT Hawaiians, but whites residing in Hawaii who were loyal to the US, and only some were citizens of the Kingdom of Hawaii. They also had the assistance of US Marines sent from America to overthrow the monarchy. So yes, there was external force used against Hawaiians and the Kingdom to overthrow it illegally. Most Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians opposed annexation, but those pleas went unheard. Most Hawaiians were against statehood too.
@fijikid80 Those marine peacekeepers that did land ashore remained scrupulously neutral the entire time, and didn't point their weapons in anger at either side.
As for anti-annexation, that sentiment only lasted a short time, and both Prince Kuhio and Robert Wilcox (the Unconquerable Rebel himself) served as Territorial representatives to Congress. Kuhio worked tirelessly for statehood, and in 1959, over 94% voted in *favor*, including most native Hawaiians.
Have you forgotten that Queen Kaahumanu was the one who ended the old Hawaiian religion, a year before missionaries from Connecticut arrived at the behest of the war refugee Oobokiah? Christianity in Hawaii has a completely different history than Catholicism in the New World, my uninformed friend.
@kauinoapono Kaahumanu didn't end the Hawaiian belief system. Many Hawaiians still believed in it, whether it was partially or still fully. Some people to this day remember and practice the old ways since Christianity hasn't done much good for Hawaiians in the first place. When I say Hawaiian, I refer to those of actual Hawaiian blood, those whose ancestors resided there before any foreigners came to Hawaii's shores. It's that simple. Don't try to jump on the wagon when you have NO blood in you.
if the hawaiians could get it together they might be able to do what natives did on the mainland, sell cigarettes tax free and run gambling resorts on their land
i dont believe the mixed mutts with the cow enowa stickers on the bumper of a dual exhaust nissan titan you know the types

No joke - the Akaka Bill promises to make "Hawaiian" something arbitrarily decided upon by a new set of ali'i, no matter what your bloodline is.
