Use to listen to y'all back in the mid 70s when I was station in England. Loved the jingles. There was a language barrier but still enjoyed listening. And they played some good music then.........U.S.A
Remember listening to Caroline (what became North) on myu $5 2nd hand Pye radio with the green "magic eye" and valves that would fry eggs! and listened to what later I found out was Simon Dee on Easter weekend. I was stationed in USAF @ RAF Sculthore, Norfolk. RC was a great change from the booooring Beeb, and R Luxembough with it's channel-fading (by design!) & 15 minutes record progs. I liked Caroline so much, I went to 6 Chesterfield Gardens, and in the 70's named my Daughter after the ship.
YEAH THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL BETTER, I WENT SHOPPING TODAY, THE SUPERMARKET PA SYSTEM PLAYED RAP-CRAP THE WHOLE 5 MINUTES I WAS IN THERE ,I LEFT WITH A HEADACHE....I HAD TO LEAVE...CAPITAL FM? CAPITAL SHYTE 24/7.
CANT UNDERSTAND HOW IT ALL WENT HORRIBLY WRONG, ALL WE GET NOW IS RAP-CRAP, ANGRY BLACK VOICES MOANING BASTARDS, THE WORLD HAS BECOME A DARK PLACE, LAUGHTER AND HAPPINESS IS A YESTERDAY THING
@MANTLEBERG Not if we get our way , we are trying to get the Ross Revenge a permanent mooring at Ramsgate, with a M.wave signal & Pirate Radio museum. If you still care find out about it and get behind the effort. Love & Peace.
@MANTLEBERG@minimartin3@UpMyOwn The thing that went wrong is that in the recession people start to forget to enjoy the good things in life, Life, People and living. Everybody watches TV through which they see adverts and want things they can't get. When they can't get what they want they become miserable and forget to cherish what they already have. I always think the 60's as an easygoing era and everyone is happy with what they have.
@MANTLEBERG i would love to have a go at the skull n crossbones broadcasting, but as you say its all crap, although, there are still plenty of really good bands out there and also not forgetting the music we are fortunate enough to enjoy a lot of the tracks before some skanky rip off artists decided to really ruin the music scene and destroy some really good tunes! keep music live and real!!
Does anybody have a copy of the original Caroline tune that they can download onto youtube...I believe it was sung by the Fortunes and Buddy Holly and incorporated the Radio Caroline ship's bell...Unfortunately the copy that was on here has mysteriously disappeared off of youtube altogether??? They were brilliant days, sadly never to be repeated...:{
Caroline was released by the Fortunes a birmingham band but didnt make the charts-so common in the 60s if you didnt get airplay..ironically it became an iconic sound of the 60s by being adopted as the radio caroline theme tune- heard by millions
This opened 'Caroline' at 5am each morning. I was a young London police officer around 1963/64 travelling to duty for 'early turn' (6am to 2pm) and tuned into this fantastic sig tune.

Sorry pressed dislike by mistake!! The Ross Revenge was equipped with one of the best record players ever: The Russco studio pro B. It beat Garrards & Technics by a mile.
Gosh, how well I remember Radio Caroline, its jingles, Radio Nordzee International, the music was so much better than and we also got Kenny Everett, Noel Edmonds and loads of great DJs from these ships. They were such great days, pity they had to close down, bloody government. Bah humbug!!!!!
I'm a fan of British Invasion Music -- huge beyond words!! For the love of everything blessed -- can't figure out why the BBC would play but two hours of sixties music -- I lived on the US side of the pond, got all the music 24/7/365 -- truly the best music of my lifetime! Thank goodness for pirate radio!! May theses ships live on and on, at least in the hearts of the people who got access to the music they played -- in spite of the BBC! :-) Thanks for the post. It's in my Faves now!
Brings back the memories being station in the UK from 1963 to 1967 in the Air Force. Best, the very best, radio station that we had to listen to music on.
We owe it to the pirate Radio stations they forced the BBC's hand and finally step up a popular music station "BBC Radio One " ( Medium Wave , Mono ) in those days.
@gurneyer The first part is the beginning of Karn Evil 9: 1St Impression - Part 2 by Emerson, Lake and Plamer off the album Come And See The Show and the second part is Caroline by the Fortunes.

I went past the Ross Revenge on the Olau ferry in 1990 I was only 10 but remember the dj at the time saying he could even see the price of the duty free scotch on the shelf it is hard to explain the feeling when on board its is one of calm and tranquil feeling that you can not explain, a shame it got very politcal when the Dutch and at that time the Thatcher goverment had it raided, Radio Caroline should in my view of being brought in to the law not rebelled against by the goverment

Dont recall the opening jingle (post Aug 67?) but the theme song still sounds great. Do we know who sung this?
If you werent there, Caroline & London were the crucial elements during the swinging 60s, magical days.
