@Dartoodette Up to 20 years, but read up on them first. they're very fragile, and shouldn't really eat too much other than hay. Hay is what their digestive systems are used to and anything else their body doesn't really know how to handle, so it's stored in their livers and can lead to liver failure, disease, etc.

@Tora113 pet chinchillas are not the same as wild ones. You can check that out if you want, but as I understand pet chinchillas come from a group taken for fur farms around 1920. The ones that live in the wild are parents to pet chinchillas but not the same. If you'd like to be sure, you can ask for the origins of the pet before buying them to make sure they are not taken from the wild.
