As far as i know the only plane that is not a prototype capable of VTOL and supersonic flight is the F35 (not all versions of the F35 have the capability of VTOL tho)

The fact that the harrier of CoD has that stupid gun that shoots at guys on the ground is just completely fake. First the harrier wouldn't just stop and hover over a combat zone. The entire point of it being able to hover is so it could easily land in an open field or other improvised area with no aiirfield or so it could land on an amphimbius ship. Second, I work on harriers and you can ask any Marine who works on them that the gun on the harrier in CoD just doesn't exist.

VTOL is not a useless manouvre on land based areas. Harrier was developed as a strke aircraft in foreward areas that did not possess airfields or roads, but had clearings in wooded areas and such like. As for super carriers...V. over-rated, nice big radar signatures for advanced anti ship missiles, and the modern generation of torps. . lol ...(ex RN)

Since the inception of the AV8 there has NEVER been a situation in American combat history that required VTOL......EVER. The F35 is just an appeasement of the less advanced countries who don't have the resources to park a super carrier off of the coast of any country that needs a little American attitude adjustment. We rightfully retain the services of the Harrier to keep our USMC an independant service of our military until Obama rips that apart, too. VTOL is for third world countries, not USA.
