  • @mistermapex ive seen lots of drummers do that and i still dont know what that means

  • Hi,

Does anyone know what sticking he uses in the fill around like 0:20 to 0:25?

Dont get me wrong, he uses it hella lot and so do a lot of drummers... but that sort of linear figure with a lot of bass drum and rolling down the toms gets me! Heh, pretty generic thing that confuzes me a bit... but I dont want to attempt to learn it by ear, and then struggle with the wrong patterns, making life so much more difficult!!!

And oh yeh... Benny Greb does this unbelievably!

    Thanks.

  • @Alexliverpoolfc He's using Parradiddle-diddle flams i believe, using a bass on 3 & 6. While making a flam-type sound on the Beat 1 & 2/ 4 & 5. In symbols(Tom-Tom-Bass T-T-B) ... hope that helps!

  • You know, the chart for this performance is available at drumsnotated . com

  • @lildondon29 I agree i know one drummer that certainly has originality though and thats Gavin Harrison a purley supurb player

  • fuckin sweet fill at 1:07....

  • @lildondon29 not much for that, I agree, but it "catched my ear". He jumps, walks and is adding something. ( can be his aftershave) :) a good drummer anyway

  • awesome playing. Is this drumset the meridian maple from mapex?

  • @bmans7853 It´s a M Birch. The Meridians have round emblems and the lugs are smaller.

  • very cool guy!

  • @lildondon29 i agree around 1993 drummers all start sounding alike its like rap and rock artist but this kid got sum skill

  • Nice..

  • @hassledguy He moved to Houston from New Orleans after Katrina. This is when he did the video. He was playing for Lisa McClendon at the time. Check out her CD "LIVE FROM HOUSE OF BLUES NEW ORLEANS"

  • @paulcussion12 Well I kinda need new heads on both my bass drums and 1 of my toms. Also a new pedal. I will try and take your advice on those mics, its just money is a hassle I'll try.

  • epic samples in this shiz

  • Thats pretty good dude, but get a little more technical :D, I can do that :p.

  • @gatler05 Show it!

  • @paulcussion12 I will when I fucking get MICS for my drum kit bro, and new heads.

  • You have some talent some great talent

  • first time i've heard a mapex M series sound any good!

  • Could be a better song though

  • Brutal! Very good!

  • He's good, with great potential. But many of those copycat (triplet) licks are a dime a dozen these days: Same ole, Same ole.

  • @speedoflite1 "He's good, with great potential"

as if you could do better you penis!

  • I saw wher the sticks hit

  • Dude, that was beautiful!

  • wow what the hell is this !!!1

  • Why The hell aren't you famous, like crazy famous. We have crapy famous drummers and then we have not famous drummers like you. That's fucked up!

  • 10 dollars saids no one else will be able to catch where his sticcs accidentally hit together

  • @FBC83rd at 1:29 - 1:30 thats why he changed the groove. haha u sr. or man owe me 10 dollars.

  • Nice Job!

  • Took me a while to even SEE the left hand hitting the hi-hat in the groove. Excellent drumming, got the sauce!

  • I like how he rushes all the overly complicated fills...

  • @oldguitars its not rushed.

  • Fuck me that's good

  • WHO DAT ?

  • my boy from the 504

  • You are cold dude. I like that triplet you put in there and also that 3 over 2 if im not mistaken. Keep it up and can you put some vidoes showing how you put those teckniques in there. GOOD JOB

  • You sound real good bra. Amazing! You blazed on James Fortune's DVD too.

  • dat waz real gud keep it up.

  • I really like the action going here, this guy is such a great player! The only thing I could say is that I don't hear any dynamics other than "loud." Sometimes using those other volumes can expand playing further into new levels of feeling. I miss that in a lot of new players. He's a bad ass at loud though!

  • 1:09 yeahhhh

  • nigger's good...10 stars///out of 100

  • Your a bad man :) Nice playing!

  • nice one bruthah! give some thumbs for the big a** snare drum!

  • sounds beautiful.

  • amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was solid brother. Style reminded me of Tony Royster or Billy Cobham the legend.

  • No he's not using double pedals. Just good ol' ankle and leverage technique.

  • @MrRichyou no hes not.every time he does a double stroke, the high hat is still closed . if you have 2 bass drum pedals, the high hat didnt open.

  • SuperBad...Are you using a double Bass pedal?

  • Damn i wish i could play the drums like that, i mean i'm okay lol but nuttin like that

  • This is my fav drumming vid on youtube

  • same here ;)

  • Triple backbeats like FIYA!!

  • so good, his hands are blessed!!!!

  • Dave Weckl much my friend? Not so original unfortunately, but clean playing.

  • @mesdeftool That really didn't have anything Weckl about it at all...Just because someone is good doesn't mean they are playing like Weckl..

  • damn what the fuck do they put in the water down there in NO? so much good music from that place

  • @boogeymanhydrobudda -- it's the city. they put the city in the water.

  • @zzzbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz That comment...completely made my day.

  • Very clever drummer whats he like as a musician ?

    anyway .

  • Wicked chops man...very nice style...

  • These guys are fully capable of 'holding it' when required. Great stuff though.

  • this drummer is awesome. i just wonder what all these "Gospel Chops" guys would do if they couldnt play rim shots or be in situation where they couldnt fill every 4 measures.

  • play straight?

  • listen to some gospel albums, with "Gospel Chops" guys playing.

  • what you playing at 39 secs...the sticking please please please...kudos

  • sweet!

  • Hot chops!

  • that is some killer stuff right der my man!!

  • reaaaal good, but that ride sounds like a turd.

  • @FlexHaulFrequency - - - LOL - great choice of words. Got me laughing !

  • Comment removed

  • @cymbalfusion THIS GUY IS A PRO

  • @FlexHaulFrequency I didnt know that turds make noise? What kinda shits you takin? lol

  • wat on earth was that at 1:26

  • it starts on the "and" of four. i believe its 32nd notes the pattern is : right, left, right, left, bass, bass repeated 6 times through the following measure then back to the beat on count 1

  • thanks man

  • pretty sure it right leff right right bass bass, like a paradiddle diddle, they are prettty easy to pull off, just not as 32nd notes and not that clear lol.

  • oh, my bad its actually R L R L B B, kdub is correct lol

  • @KEASTONBWOI really fast triplets with kick, killer stuff!! Triplets within triplets, so you're playing 9 notes per quarter note......

  • Doubles on the bass followed by single stroke fours on his hands. Just alternate them and apply them to different parts of the drum set and you will eventually have a sick sounding roll like that one

  • omfg this is like an orgasm listening to it

  • A real blast to watch. I love to hear some Linear grooves.

  • looks like chris bosh

  • The full transcription for this performance is available at my website. You'll have to enter it by hand, because YouTube doesn't allow URLs in comments.

    jezenthomas (dot) co (dot) uk

    Enjoy!

  • He didd not miss!

  • @d1balla54 He hit his stick on the upstroke from the snare to the hi-hat. But it really doesn't matter. This guy is tight and aware of the groove and doesn't get too far from the pocket. Not fond of the hi-hat's splash though.

  • Sweet great stuff absolutely LOVE it.

  • no he does not miss

  • he does... he miss the cymbals :D

  • @zicaeh Killer, but not perfect, no such thing as a perfect drummer. You kinda just made yourself look like an ass. ''/

  • @zicaeh no, he doesnt miss

  • sick!!! wohoo!!! i'll click this for my favorites!! wohooo!!

  • obviously alot of talent and chops here....and much much better than I will ever be....but there is a groove and time that I would rather here from these things.....make folks dance and boogie...drums are really not a solo instrument, thyey are the bricks and mortar baby....

  • this is just an exhibition to showcase some of his fills and polyrhytms. I have noticed a lot of drummers that have strong rock influences have some sort of anomosity towrds gospel chop players. I give rock drummers their credit even if i dont really play it.Marco minneman and every great rock drummer has fusion type influences The best drummers incorporate all styles into their playing. i.I feel drummers should keep an open mind and utilize every style to complete their craft.

  • @ghettokaiba well put. i think alot of anomosity has to do with the jealousy of not being able to emulate. the most anamosity ive seen is toward double bass players. double bas could be incorperated in any style and i think any drummer is lacking not utilizing both feet on bd even if just sparingly.

  • @ghettokaiba Little late, but I've come up with heavy rock influences and after hearing gospel chops, I became hooked. You've got to mix all styles to become one.

  • @ghettokaiba I mean I cant stand gospel drummers because I Dont find anything intricate about their playing... just a bunch of noisy chops that really sound like a bunch of mush.. and dont really do much to accent the groove. And I swear its like they all sound the same.. same style pocket.. same chops. Jazz and fusion drummers are just so much more musical to me.

  • i thnk he only using 1 pedal

  • Comment removed

  • lots of Royster influence here

  • smokin!!

  • he's rushing constantly. no groove.

  • lol this dude is good man, and his groove is great. post some groove and feel the love

  • is he using a single pedal or double...?? I cant tell.

  • single,

    i was watching his legs.

those gospel drummers, man i tell ya haha

  • practise all it is practise with a weighted pedal if you can that what most people seem to do these days and just practise doubles for long period of time and try and keep it even it helps

  • no groove?! you're crazy!

  • no not crazy there's NO groove, nightmare to play with dude, is like a modern drummer competition... ALL THE Fing TIME .. it SUCKS !!

  • Comment removed

  • no one playing with him so what does it matter if there a solid groove or not and for the modern drummer competition of course there not going to be playing 1 groove they have a limted time to show how diverse and creative they can beat that not really going to come with playing one beat the whole time and dont think they cant play in the pocket based on vid on youtube that would be dumb on your part

  • camon keep it real now, nobody's teaching these kids how to groove, and every time they play a big drum fill, erbody goes YES that's IT Junior !! All gospel drummers are wasting their time and God given talent, only a small amount get the gigs but most of them end up playing in a basement, i play bass and drums, on the bass playing with gospel drummers 90% of the time is HORRIBLE experience they don't listen to nothing but drums, i'm into making music not CHOPS peace

  • well if they cant pocket they have no business playing drums but i dont no anyone like that so i guess that just your bad luck or you need to change who your playing with

  • nice bro

  • bad-ass

  • gossspel chopsssss

  • Waw......1:24 Was Power Full Man Thats Amazing

  • beast!!!

  • yes, talented, but a stand out? the word Killer? really?.. no. my take here is that this is simply mediocre....people please.....

there are thousands of drummers that do this... gospel or what I would call Gary Chaffee Linear book worms who cop Dennis Chambers and Blackwell licks note for note. PLEASE go watch some Buddy Rich or Virgil D, or Steve Gadd or if you DO like this drummer you should watch Eric Moore or Thomas P both do this style much better in my opinion

  • This dude's timing is nails, and he plays with incredible authority. Given the ubiquitous hyperbole on You Tube I find "Killer Drummer" to be an understatement.
