I had alittle trouble using the magic wand tool trying to select some places I wanted to shade. I sent you a PM about it. You may want to read and reply to my PM for further details.
k im brand new to paint dt net and i cannot figure out how to get the paint to not cover up the lines you used to trace!! so i cannot shade, (not well at least) please help!!
@SarcasmMaster I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying, but I think you have to set your shading layer to multiply (double click on the layer, a box will pop up) and make sure that layer is underneath the lineart.
@SarcasmMaster i had that prob too today but managedto figure it out u click the layers tab>layer properties> Mode: (set to overlay) and that will not cover ur lines
@SarcasmMaster Just make another layer right at the beggining, then dra the character there and duplicate the layer, then paint in the duplicate and the lines won't cover the character
This is a really big help to me! I know it may be boring and old news for you, but I am new to paint.net and I really appreciate your tutorial. I especially appreciate that you talked during it, as many of them they dont, and I have no idea what they are doing. Thank you vm, i will be watching it over and over til i learn it.
@cuteeverything Well, thank you for this comment! :D It's the best I've gotten in a long long time. I'm really glad you liked this and found it helpful.
@KathyNguyen911 The magic wand tool selects one color for you. And when you press CTRL+I on your key board, it will invert selection. So if you select red with the tool, it will select everything but the color red. Then you delete the things you don't want. First you select the color (or colors) you're shading on the color layer, then go to the shading layer, CTRL+I and delete so none of the shading is on the other colors.
@8tohru Ah, sorry for the mumbling. I'm saying something like, "Use the magic wand tool to select the skin on the color layer on global with the tolerance at zero. Then go back to the shading later, ctrl+I to invert selection, and delete."
@AniimeGiirl96 With 0% tolerance, select the skin on your color layer. Then go to the layer with shading, press ctrl+I (to invert selection), and delete.
@Beserker333 You mean the line tool? It's the third one up from the bottom right on the tool box. Flashing squares will appear on the line that you can click and drag to change the shape of the line.
@csskillerking Ha, well, just find a lineart you like and look at the end of my lineart tutorial. It's the same thing, only your lineart would be premade. :/ I can't be of much help anymore because I quit drawing.
@csskillerking Due to a recent crash on my computer, I don't have the lineart anymore. However, you can use any lineart for this. Just look at the end of my lineart tutorial for help on that.
Multiply changes the property of the layer. Basically, white becomes completely transparent and colors show differently. I mainly do that for the smudge tool, though I did not use it this time for simplicity.
thank you so much!

edgarchpa 8 months ago
@SarcasmMaster Make a new layer and use the paint bucket to make the layer white
then in the layer box, double click the the new layer and the properties will pop up
change the "mode" from "normal" to "multiply" and thats it :)
now just paint on the new layer and you got it

Those are color samples. They aren't necessary, but it is nice to have your colors saved on a different layer in case something gets messed up.
