Good demo, but I cannot focus my mind on what you are saying with the boof boof boom boom muzak, Although I do appreciate your instructional capabilities. Thankyou
replace the girl with nice boobs with an 'ugly' girl and the video turns to shit. Not good when you're making a tutorial and it can't stand on the techniques you need to teach.
interesting series. its too bad that all the techniques are presented in a way that just screams. "this is my gimmick to try and make interesting photos". This guy doesnt seem to know what color temperature or depth of field are. Heaven forbid any of these guys actually come up with an interesting concept and actually direct their models beyond " thats good" and "hold that"
please tell me what type of camera you are using a canon but i want to know the specific model for this one thank you and more advice how to make a digital look profeshional how..? please explain
Can anyone tell me if the photos that are shown in this video are straight out of camera just as I tried this and never got a good blend of colours and got hot spots ,or was the gels used and then photoshopped to blend the colours better with a gussian Blur and hue/Sat
You are far too technical with no artistic ability. I could have shot better with a pinhole camera in outdoor light with a white wall as a bounce. You guys obsess over some silly colored background when you could have just put her in a natural setting and put the background in soft focus. ...........God, you guys suck.
I really enjoy watching your videos Scott, thanks a lot for the lessons. Could you please explain a few questions for me:
1). The reason why you used two 1000 flash heads and where they were positioned. I noticed that one of them had the gel on it, was the other one the main light?
2). Was the Main Light a beauty light or a soft box?
3). 1.How important is keeping the model away from the background, and how far should they be from the background?
I am not Scott but I think i can help you with your questions.
1. I would guess he had both of the 1000 Heads on the background with the gels and the 500 Head lighting the subject. The reason is because he needed the Key light to fall off before reaching the subject so they would not washout the gel. Second he needed the stronger lights thru the gel so because the gel takes away about a stop or so or more depending on the gel and also the light needed to be powerful so that it would register
2. I think its sort of a mix between a beauty dish and a small softbox. Anyone correct me if im wrong.
3. If you want a nice soft background and wish to have your subject pop then you would want the background further away and use a large aperature. Now if you want the subject and background both in good focus then use a small aperature and have the background closer. So you can play with the in between.
1) Look at the scheme at the beginning of the video. I don't understand the problem :)
2) It's a softbox, but since it has a grid on it, it doesn't change that much
3) Actually the guy is missing the point and you're getting it: INVERSE SQUARE LAW.
If the model is away from the background the colored light aren't going to affect her, AND if the key light is close to the model it's not going to affect the background.
Assuming you have a large studio, this stuff is almost useless ;)
you stated what your main light was metered at f/2.8 but you did not state what your bg gels metered at, or did I miss that.

nice equipment, but i think you could achieve an even better picture if you just photoshop the background. It's a hell lot cheaper

why spend more time sitting on your ass on a computer when you could have had it done in the first place?
