  • I don't know how the Smiths did it. In such a short amount of time one amazing song after another. Oh why did they have to break up?! So much incredible music still to be made!

  • This song is AMAZING. Morrissey is gorgeous and has amazing vocals, especially the contrasting soft singing, the way he builds it up and climaxes with a gutteral growl, bordering on a roar!

  • @Paradeoxy I couldn't agree more. Well put.

  • Poetry

  • there can never be another group as good as the smiths!!

  • Some 18 months ago...

  • @fnchrstphr "A Rush, a charge from North, South, East and West [and] the land is ours" - Speranza, in an Irish nationalist magazine around the turn of the century. "A rush and a charge and the land is ours" - Traditional Irish battle cry. So I would take a guess that the song is about Anglo-Irish relations, the Irish keeping their land, maintaining their independence etc. And Morrissey's confusion over it because of his "love" for both countries...maybe not, it's just such a wonderful song

  • @CoCaFanboy Any Smiths song that is covered by someone other than The Smiths is never ever ever fucking better. The true greatness of every song he sung was in the fact that it was so true to HIM, everyone else should lay off his work. That goes for you too fucking Mark Ronson.

  • @DamnedDamnedDamned1 I'm doing this for a talent show (playing the piano too) But I agree with you

  • The way he says 'rush' oh my lord ;)

  • a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • La première pièce d'un album presque parfait.

Un disque à avoir absolument dans sa collection.

    Malheureusement, le dernier des Smiths.

  • oh i think im in love....

  • @JayEbejer .... same for me :)

  • i love this damn song, my fav smiths song by far.

  • Ha, the cover really does suck.

  • C&C covered this? Glad I haven't heard that...

When will artists learn that Smiths covers and clone-bands are never worth shit?

I realize it's not done in an attempt to improve upon the original songs, but, god, it always turns out so abysmally, regardless of the intent.

  • @thesemenincident when i was in a band we didnt do covers for other ppl, we did them cos we enjoyed the songs so much

  • @slosh77 You seem to have missed my point...

  • @thesemenincident Are you a Coheed fan? Cause if you aren't, then I can understand why you wouldn't like Coheeds cover, but don't knock it 'till you try it. I actually heard Coheeds cover first and that led me to this video here, and now I like both versions. Coheed is one of the greatest bands ever, they're original in everything they do, even their covers, ironically.

  • @pdefreitas94 +1 Same.

  • @thesemenincident

What a silly, and egotistical thing to say. I'm sorry that you cannot enjoy music for what it is, but other people tend to enjoy seeing bands pay tribute to others. Even if the artistic recreation isn't to their style, there is still something new and interesting to experience--for instance, CoCa's rendition is more emotional laden. Many times I have preferred the original to the cover, but I've almost always enjoyed the cover regardless, just as anyone else who likes music

  • @littledeadybear Uh... you might've had me with egotistical if I were IN The Smiths... but no, you're just pulling insults out of your ass because apparently my opinion bugs you. "CoCa's" version is crap as far as I'm concerned. You aren't going to change my mind... Your preferences are your problem.

Best Moz cover ever, BTW: q4pSWNYGzks

I only dislike covers when they are done by bands I hate covering my -favorite- band... Is that so unreasonable?

  • @thesemenincident

Take it abstractly, then. To equate Smith covers and clone-bands to shit, just because you dislike that they have some gumption or nerve to try and throw out their own artistic spin, is silly. I'm not trying to change your opinion, I'm making the assumption that you have a narrow appreciation for music.

  • i think the coheed version is better

  • soo this is the song she was playing.. hmmm something real new too me and i love it ...haa fuck.

  • isnt this song originally like 3:00min. long?

    Great song, btw -- and I'm a hip-hop head

  • dont know why but this songs makes me think of things of the past.. its like happy but sad at the time.. and stimulate the desires of something..

  • great!!

  • why are the cover versions of this so so abysmal? I guess no one has as big a pair of balls as morrissey, hahaha, its true though

  • Why do the cover versions of this song suck so much? I guess no ones got as bigger balls as morrissey!

  • why are people arguing over versions of the song? be fucking glad to extremely talented bands, both in their respective areas, perform a song that has, in one way or another, touched you as a fan or inspired you. Quit being so cynical and negative and make a Rush and a Push for the land that is musical greatness and be kind to each other or younger generations will never heard of either the Smiths or Coheed and Cambria and will be subject to Niki Manaj and Lil Wayne to be taught in music history

  • no,no don't mention love!!!

  • Why do people say Coheed butchered this song, it sounds like The Smiths butchered their own song...

  • @MrLeslieChow11 fuck you faggot coheed is a gay emo band who need to just kill themselves the smiths rule fuck you and coheed bitch

  • @MrGuGnar Coheed is gay and emo? Clearly you're retarded, and I don't think the Smiths would appreciate you calling anyone faggots. Since you know their signer is infact a queer.

  • @MrGuGnar You are obviously very ignorant to think that they are gay and emo without knowing anything about them. They aren't even an emo band. They covered this song well but it does have more emotion than the original. Lastly just saying "fuck you faggot" and shit like that doesn't help anything. It just makes things worse.

  • @PROGdrummer93 I think the comment was steeped in irony. It's the comment you'd expect (but often don't get) from a Coheed and Cambria fan.

Btw, I don't think emotion is a measurable facet of a song, but each to their own.

  • Weather you loathe yourself or someone else the smiths just seem to be that sound track. And this album sums it all up!

  • The first 30 secs of this song remind me of what it must feel like to be a ghost.

    Props to The Smiths.

  • God i love this song so much.............and the Coheed version is good 2.

  • God I wish people wouldn't cover The Smiths. Although it is mildly humorous to see them fall incredibly short of the godliness that is The Smiths.

  • @anonymice14 an asian hooker

  • I LOVE LOVE THE BEGINNING DD'X

Why must I be doomed to be born 14 years after the Smiths were raised :(

  • Hey, here's an idea I propose! Everyone, SHUT THE FUCK UP?!?!? I heard the Coheed version first because they are my favorite band, but don't be dicks and say they are better than the Smiths on one of The Smiths' videos. I truly love both versions. Both are pretty haunting in a good way. Coheed is amazing and so are the Smiths. I know I just sound like another one of those losers that post these types of comments on videos right now, but you should all just shut the fuck up.

  • @StopRunningKid Thank you!

  • @StopRunningKid I saw your comments I thought I'd listen to the cover. Its actually pretty good in my opinion. covering is a very bravething to do. I also like both versions although I don't think it's one of the Smith's best.

  • the Smiths were a trully unique band. Morrisseys voice goes through strange ways thats the difference. and then Johnny with those strange chords and fingerpicking..wake up kids!

  • How can you even compare Coheed and Cambria and The Smiths? This is ridiculous.

  • there music helps alot when you go through shitty times you just want to walk around your city at night while listining to them

  • @bOnerjAmz1993 I do that alot, I lie in a village though.. One day I was wandering through the rain in the middle of the night with my dog, and I began to sing very loudly and probably woke the whole village. But at least they now know who the Smiths are, kinda.. ;)

  • the coheed and cambria version is pretty much a 10 compared to this there is no emotion in this song except for the RRRRGGGGG's once in a wile.

  • This song is amazing.

Also if you haven't heard Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever cover this song then you haven't lived.

  • wtf is with the weird grunts? O.O

  • One of my favorite smiths songs. Love the part "there's too much caffine in your bloodstream".

  • @krono965

"And a lack of real spice in your life"

  • @krono965 exactly what i was just about to write

  • @krono965 love that song, too, except there's no such thing as too much caffeine (opinion of a true caffeine junkie...)

  • @krono965 Yeah!

  • lol at people who have the nerve to say Coheed is anywhere near the Smiths' league.

  • @BDizDaBest You're kidding me. You obviously don't know anything about coheed...

  • @BDizDaBest Coheed put so much more feeling into the song and they made it their own. deal with it. :|

  • @sabian1312 Why are you on this video then? Coheed is made up of the 2 guys from Milli Vanilli, no?

  • @mindyspark umm. terrible attempt at humor?

  • What's with the pictures of random models on smiths jackets?

  • please dont mention that awful band coheed and cambria here, the original is always the best.

  • @powermjp Your an idiot, Coheed is an amazing and original band, they arent better then the smiths, they arent worse. Their cover is honestly just more powerful then this version, not that this version isn't amazing.

  • @MyGoodApollo haha

  • COHEAD AND CAMBRIA WTF VV?

  • Personally I like Coheed's cover more. I just think this song works better with acoustic guitars..Plus it has Claudio's voice, not saying Morrissey has a bad voice. I just prefer Coheed. The Smiths are still great

  • Pretty good song but I prefer the Coheed and Cambria cover, I never understood why everyone loves this band so much, they aren't bad but they do absolutely nothing for me.

  • Oh but don't mention love...

  • The Smiths > Morrissey

Really a shame that Moz's ego couldn't subordinate to the band. Moz's solo stuff just doesn't have the texture and depth of these albums. Glimpses of high quality (e.g. Vauxhall), but nothing to compare in total to The Queen or Strangeways.

  • songs amazing

  • Amber, This song still gives me chills! Great album to drink wine to (and think our lifes are really not that bad) lol miss you....

  • 2nd fav brit band, definantly one of the best ever, this song is the shit tho mar was on some kinda drug to write this man its like amazing

  • @FlameSquid whats your fav brit band then?

  • @blacktheory Jam

  • i love the smiths. always have, always will.

but when i was at the morrissey-concert here in hamurg, my whole little smiths-world got destroyed. it was such a disappointment.

  • @mymindplease I'm sorry you went through that. I had a similar experience back in the 90s. After a decade of fervently hoping and praying I would get to see Morrissey I did, only to have him virtually phone in his performance and leave after 40 minutes. 40 minutes?! I was truly disappointed. Truly, truly, truly ...

  • currently using to fight deadly feelings

  • Morrissey is a genius. Hands down. No matter what ANYONE SAYS!

  • Not sure I'd still be alive without them!!

  • This is a lyrical genius.

  • 'They take what they need and just leave' :) :) Priceless!! This applies to too many grabbers these days :(

  • the text in this song is very similiar to the story of "this is england" don't you think?

  • This song is magical, as well as every other one of the smiths songs. <3

  • I just love this song.

  • I usually want more music to sound like my favorite bands. I don't want ANYTHING to sound to sound like this again. It's painfully perfect.

  • shane o neill <3

  • When Morrissey claims to be the ghost of troubled Joe, he is lying. I, in fact, am the ghost of troubled Joe.

  • Morrissey is probably the greatest lyricist of all time.

  • @glewy74 Edit 'probably' for 'definitely' ;)

  • this is good !

  • eh i like the Coheed and Cambria cover better, but this is nice

  • @SCarsonSOAD don't get me wrong I adore Coheed and Cambria. But yeah for this song. I prefer this version. But i'm bias since it's the smiths and I was familiar with this song before the whole A.V. club thing.

  • @SCarsonSOAD Their version is fantastic though.

  • amazing music

  • what does the song mean??

  • I love it how his "phone me" sounds almost like "f*ck me" at one point ;)

    Such a great song...

  • Still a very inspirational band after all these years.

  • this song always makes me zone out, love it

  • There may be too much caffein in my bloodstream... but with the Smiths' music there will always be REAL SPICE in my life!

  • Hey wie geilll !

"Hello I´m a ghost of trouble Joe...."

  • Strangeways was such a great album. I remember reading that all of the band members listed it as their favorite and this initially puzzled me. I thought it had some good songs and was better than the first one, but the two albums that preceded it I thought were more potent. So naturally I listened to it over and over and focused not only on the amazing lyrics( possibly some of Morrissey's best) but the composition of the songs is very complex. I mean in this song you can here xylophones tip-toe

  • @decker791 through the verses

  • @decker791

agreed, truly an all time classic. you can`t go wrong with any of the smiths albums but that said, this is still my favorite.

  • people who are uglier than you and me, they take what they need and just live.

    lol

  • i am the ghost of troubled Joe

  • GENIALES MOLAAAAAAAAA

  • no actually morrisseys my favorite artist i read ur comment "fag" and thought u were referring to him as one soo big mouth strikes again

  • ur the one listening to "fag" music sooo whos the real fag? exactlly u r douche

  • @olskool1877 NF? wots tht

  • Comment removed

  • whats your problem?

  • always the best.

    1

  • amazing song

  • I just don't know what I'd be without them...

  • I agree completely. Their music has gotten me through some really crappy times.

  • @tncl85 I wouldn't be ALIVE without them!

  • @tncl85 yes.
