I don't know how the Smiths did it. In such a short amount of time one amazing song after another. Oh why did they have to break up?! So much incredible music still to be made!
This song is AMAZING. Morrissey is gorgeous and has amazing vocals, especially the contrasting soft singing, the way he builds it up and climaxes with a gutteral growl, bordering on a roar!
@fnchrstphr "A Rush, a charge from North, South, East and West [and] the land is ours" - Speranza, in an Irish nationalist magazine around the turn of the century. "A rush and a charge and the land is ours" - Traditional Irish battle cry. So I would take a guess that the song is about Anglo-Irish relations, the Irish keeping their land, maintaining their independence etc. And Morrissey's confusion over it because of his "love" for both countries...maybe not, it's just such a wonderful song
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
in my opinion CoCa is waaaaaay better than this, hands down, it's just my opinion, it's just so beatiful and i LOVE Claudio's voice <3 and the acoustic guitar fits perfectly in the song
@CoCaFanboy Any Smiths song that is covered by someone other than The Smiths is never ever ever fucking better. The true greatness of every song he sung was in the fact that it was so true to HIM, everyone else should lay off his work. That goes for you too fucking Mark Ronson.
these west lands are owned and were won by fighting violent submitting wars, we are forced to work to pay off our dues and reclaim property by financial buying back. who here still is a slave to the now decendant kings queens?
i travel through a mystical timezone..... haha im high as fuck as soon as i heard that part i felt the music going through my bones.... fuckin ripped :P
@thesemenincident Are you a Coheed fan? Cause if you aren't, then I can understand why you wouldn't like Coheeds cover, but don't knock it 'till you try it. I actually heard Coheeds cover first and that led me to this video here, and now I like both versions. Coheed is one of the greatest bands ever, they're original in everything they do, even their covers, ironically.
What a silly, and egotistical thing to say. I'm sorry that you cannot enjoy music for what it is, but other people tend to enjoy seeing bands pay tribute to others. Even if the artistic recreation isn't to their style, there is still something new and interesting to experience--for instance, CoCa's rendition is more emotional laden. Many times I have preferred the original to the cover, but I've almost always enjoyed the cover regardless, just as anyone else who likes music
@littledeadybear Uh... you might've had me with egotistical if I were IN The Smiths... but no, you're just pulling insults out of your ass because apparently my opinion bugs you. "CoCa's" version is crap as far as I'm concerned. You aren't going to change my mind... Your preferences are your problem.
Best Moz cover ever, BTW: q4pSWNYGzks
I only dislike covers when they are done by bands I hate covering my -favorite- band... Is that so unreasonable?
Take it abstractly, then. To equate Smith covers and clone-bands to shit, just because you dislike that they have some gumption or nerve to try and throw out their own artistic spin, is silly. I'm not trying to change your opinion, I'm making the assumption that you have a narrow appreciation for music.
why are people arguing over versions of the song? be fucking glad to extremely talented bands, both in their respective areas, perform a song that has, in one way or another, touched you as a fan or inspired you. Quit being so cynical and negative and make a Rush and a Push for the land that is musical greatness and be kind to each other or younger generations will never heard of either the Smiths or Coheed and Cambria and will be subject to Niki Manaj and Lil Wayne to be taught in music history
@MrGuGnar Coheed is gay and emo? Clearly you're retarded, and I don't think the Smiths would appreciate you calling anyone faggots. Since you know their signer is infact a queer.
@MrGuGnar You are obviously very ignorant to think that they are gay and emo without knowing anything about them. They aren't even an emo band. They covered this song well but it does have more emotion than the original. Lastly just saying "fuck you faggot" and shit like that doesn't help anything. It just makes things worse.
Hey, here's an idea I propose! Everyone, SHUT THE FUCK UP?!?!? Pretty good song but I prefer the Coheed and Cambria cover, I never understood why everyone loves this band so much, they aren't bad but they do absolutely nothing for me.
Really a shame that Moz's ego couldn't subordinate to the band. Moz's solo stuff just doesn't have the texture and depth of these albums. Glimpses of high quality (e.g. Vauxhall), but nothing to compare in total to The Queen or Strangeways.
@mymindplease I'm sorry you went through that. I had a similar experience back in the 90s.
