@CSCtalent I really don't remember them at all. I know that engine types, heritage and such are important to a lot of railfans and that's why I try to include that info when possible. I've collected diesel spotting books over the years and roster lists from the Yahoo Groups I'm on. Those are my main sources.
Wow nice! Great narration- especially the Mecca part! I'm Muslim so I understood what you were talking about there. You should come down to South Florida sometime- you would get a kick out of the side by side SX-Line and FEC!
I wondered if you ever considered coming over to Pinellas and trying to catch what is left of the Clearwater sub. I realize you work for a living, but I would love to see you document O701-O702 as it makes a trip down to St. Pete in the event the day comes that service ends. There is CY in Largo, the P. Park Station, the old Amtrak station at 38th Ave. and the reverse move with the caboose down in St. Pete. It usually runs Tues and Fri mornings. Just an idea.
Yes, I really need to get over there and do that. You're absolutely right, that service may not be there too many more years. When the weather cools off a little, I'll put it in my plans.
One Friday morning, I'll try to catch it leaving Yeoman and chase it to Clearwater and down the peninsula.
Danny, you are right: The tracks end at 7 Av N in St. Petersburg marked with a stop sign letting trains know that they cannot proceed further. The Clearwater Sub went as far south as 1 Av S and Martin Luther King St S right by Tropicana Field, then CSX truncated the line at 7 Av N as it stands today.
The St. Petersburg Times is the customer that gets its newsprint via CSX. If service is stopped, will the line be saved for proposed commuter rail? Hopefully the line should be saved somehow.
Yet another great video. I absolutely love how you intertwine your narration and the scanner transmissions within your videos. It is extremely informative.
Great videos and commentary. I am becoming a big fan. Please keep the videos coming. If you are ever in Iowa, look me up for some great midwest railfanning.
Im actually a big fan of your videos. You do a good job. Where I am in in the northeast is the acela and amtrak trains. its quite boring make sure you check my videos too. Keep those rails shinning!
When i went to selikrik ny to watch trains. one of your dash 8s narrow nose was on an auto rack train in Selkirk. The engine was 7530. I wonder if theyre bringing them out of storage or rebuilding them
no actually, they, along with other railroads, are bringing older engines back because the gevos are blowing turbo chargers and stuff, who knows wat else is gonna happen
ah. i see that is retarded. that can confuse alot of people. bnsf to my knowledge doenent do that. but csx needs com c-45-accte's on thier rosters. that would be awesome.
Dan, you have a very good understanding voice, and your videos are great. I rate them right up there with Pentrex with no dought. In fact keep them coming.
Of particular interest was the trip on Interstate 4 to Lakeland in the heavy rain; you mentioned a great point. Way too many times I have seen people use their 4-way flashers while in motion; that is very dangerous and - as you mentioned - illegal. I got to agree with you 100 percent.
You got the best train videos - keep up the good work!
this happens on occaision where a large order of a certain model is being completed, but the new model becomes available, so they will finish the order with a hybrid... This is speculation, because I didn't have time at this moment to look it up. Just sharing a thought.
Danny, Great video as usual...loved the shots at Coleman. Back in 1988 when CSX made the decision to abandon the line south of Coleman to Auburndale I had taken my cousin to Gainesville...this was my first trip to Florida. I got shots there at Coleman of both tracks still in use and that high signal there today had 3 targets then.
At the time I had no idea of the pending abandonment...I stayed and got some Time exposure shots of those same signals...it was neat. Soon after..abandonment!!!!
Correct, except for one detail... Six steps vs. five. Count them. ;-) That's the easiest distinguishing feature. CSX's 53 Dash-9s are actually hybrids. Dash-9 guts on a Dash-8 chassis.
The only time you should ever put on your hazrd lights is when the rain is so blinding you can't see in front of you or be able to see the car in front of you.
I've driven in some healthy nasty Texas storms before and have yet to see a person get pulled over for warning other motorists about hazardous weather.
The rule of thumb is: If the weather is too dangerous to not drive without some sort of warning to let others know about the impending danger then turn on the hazards.
When drivers turn on flashers they simply confuse everyone else, it's then impossible to recognize brake lights. If you feel then need the drive with flashers, then you should pull off the road!!
Sweet!!! Another excellent distantsignal production. I also predict thet George Jenkins Blvd. overpass will become very popular with railfans thanks to you of course. ;-) I recall my buddy, Tim (FloridaTrainKid), catching Q453 that night in Ft. Lauderdale without the GeePs that I believe were set out at Mildred and Dyer.
As always Danny, excellent job! As mentioned, the AC power on Q453 was for E109, empty Miami - Erwin, TN coal train. The two Geeps must have been cut off somewhere on the Auburndale Sub since I didn't see them on 453 later that night in Ft. Lauderdale. Keep up the great work!
Last year when I moved back to Lakeland,Fl for awhile,I'd be waiting @ the Citrus Connection bus station for my ride to work,I'd always wonder what that thing they were building was,& well after a year and a half,I now know what, after I've moved away yet again.Although I work for the man's store,it's amazing how so many things(including a high school in Lakeland) is named after him(him being George Jenkins).
Awesome work, Danny! The AC power on 453 is for E109. That's a sporadically scheduled Empty Coal Train that runs with empty coal hoppers from Cemex by my house. It should be by you tomorrow early in the morning, that is, if it runs tonight. I should be able to notify you and the group if those two AC units are seen tonight.

Just a guess.

Hi Mr. Harmon.
I'm new to the ACTS Thing and was wandering if you could help me out with it?
NSNORFOLKSOUTHERNFAN 2 years ago
I'm not too much of an authority on ATCS. I installed mine by using the step-by-step in the ATCS wiki.
That's about as much help as I can be.
Just go to the YahooGroup, atcsmon and use their resources.
