Circa 1970-72. That was when the "GP" rating was in use. It changed to "PG" in 1972, because it was mistaken to mean "General Public". Prior to 1970, it was known as "M" (suggested for mature audiences); many mistakenly thought that "M" meant "adults only".
@RJSchex - That was b/c, during the late 1960s, the MPAA experimented w/a classification known as SMA (Suggested for Mature Audiences) to denote adult content.

Rated GP and Rated X were around long before I was born. I was born in 1992, long after PG replaces GP and 2 years after NC-17 replaces X.
