Funniest thing I've seen in a while! How can people not like this? Pretending to be sensitive about this shit is so sad, when their obviously only joking.
what's this i hear now? Make-A-Wish unable to accept new wish applications? "There is a trend towards more expensive wishes, and we don't have the funds to meet the increased demand"
This skit was hilarious, that season was very toned down and when this came up it made it all worth it. Its comedy! if you dont like it then fuck off and get cancer
Fuck you all this is not funny at all when your kids is laying there in a death bed r u going to lagh at theme when they ask can i have some water and tell them no
All the people who got do buttmad over this really let their sentimental sides get the better of them. The sketch is a little over the top, but there certainly is a truth to it.
Love it, still laugh at it, love the meaning of not having to lavish someone's final moments with extravagance. Fuck you to anyone who thinks this should be gotten rid of!
I know I'm not supposed to go along with anything in this sketch, but the fact is, a lot of people's dreams never come true. Many have to settle for less their whole lives. And really, anyone could die any time. Think about that.
@ljmuzza It does have a deeper meaning. I guess, at the look at it, it IS offensive. But you can also see it as a satire of the people who do think like this in real life. It certainly made me feel like donating.
@Rutes0806isback Because apparently making fun of someone for spending millions on a dying child’s selfishness, rather than spending it on cancer research to actually save their lives, or spending it on providing medical care to children who can be saved, is worse than a joke about incest, rape, and slavery.
They're dying children, CHILDREN, what else would you expect of them but what you term as "selfish behavior". Until you have been in the position where you have to deal with the possibility that a child you love is going to die please please refrain from this kind of cold hearted cynicism. It doesn't help, and breaks hearts that are already broken.
@Strongholder123 Do not speak as though I have lost none that I love, for I have. But while I feel sympathy for others in that situation, I cannot sympathize with indulging greed. The millions spent by the Make a Wish Foundation could have been used to develop a cure for cancer, to save others and actually prevent death. It could have saved thousands of lives in areas which suffer from hunger and poverty. I believe my heart is in the right place for wanting that.
I don't care what people say, this was FUNNY! People need to learn that its ok to laugh at this kind of comedy. Hell, its ok to laugh at ANY kind of comedy!
I can see the hilarity in the Make A Wish short comings, as that's really what The Chaser were making fun of, but I can also see how people who are personally tied to a chronically ill child could find this very offensive. I've known children who have died due to cancer and when I saw the kids in the video, the kids I knew came to mind instantly, so I can see how people would have gone ballistic over it. I still love The Chaser, but I do think they unintentionally crossed the line on this one.
The point is logical, but of course humans are not logical. I don't think their point was invalid. I think ABC management had poor judgement when it came to not foreseeing the controversy this would cause.
it's not making fun of dying children. it's making you think about the point that if you were dying and had to make a wish, what you would want would almost certainly not be what the 'make a wish foundation' could deliver.
south park did a similar skit.
i dont see why i would have any problem with the skit if i was dying. I'd be happy to be a part of it. nonsense they were punished, and they know it.
Those of you getting offended by this, should piss off. Can't you see this is a sketch? It's not suppose to be taken seriously... If only some people in this world weren't so goddamn uptight that they get butthurt over comedy, this world would definately be a better place. Wars might even be less frequent. And best of all, comedy shows can freely do excellent sketches like this without worrying about getting the episode pulled off air.
" The "Make a Realistic Wish Foundation" sketch (June 2009), which attacked in classical satiric fashion the heartlessness of people who are reluctant to donate to charities, was widely interpreted as an attack on the Make a Wish Foundation, or even the terminally ill children helped by that organisation."
How do people not get this? The Chasers aren't making fun of kids with diseases. Chris is posing as a person FROM the foundation, which has had it's own controversy. It is also pointing out how so much money is given to this organization, when the children will inevitably die miserably, horribly and in unbearable pain. They'd be better spending money on research for these diseases, and just organizing for celebrities to visit them without cost. People are just so stupid, and will whinge and soo
Every day 22,000 children die of completely preventable causes. With your $5000 you have a choice: you could slightly reduce one child's suffering in the face of an untreatable illness by sending them and their parents to Disneyland; or, you could prevent a few hundred children from dying of dehydration due to diarrhea.
The only wish all of these children really have is not to die. Why are the latter children less important? Because they are black and far away?
@stan462462 i'd rather save kids in Australia before saving someone in another country. Lets fix all our problems before we try and help anyone else. We're only gonna fuck it up anyway :D
Nah, because no matter how much money goes towards improving places like Ethiopia everything quickly goes back to the status quo once whitey moves on to the next village.
The main thing to remember with this, is that this is parody. Parody is taking something outrageously out of context, and i say bravo to a humourous sketch!
I had cancer when i was 11... I had to have chemo for 2 years and i almost died numerous times. I got to make a wish at the end of it. I got flown to america stayed in an awesome hotel, went to 5 theme parks and got to meet The Creators and actors in the simpsons. Thats what make a wish does for kids like me. Im 16 now and if i ever see any chaser in the street i will personally beat the fuck out of him.
@Digz111 I have all due respect for you, but you gotta hand it to The Chasers: this sketch probably made the Make A Wish Foundation hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Glad to see you lost your sense of humour during chemo and replaced with violent thoughts of beating the shit out of people in the streets. I wonder if 'grow up?' is the appropriate thing to say in this situation.
ppl criticize this all u want.... they are called SATIRISTS!!!!! they make fun of stuff, but with a goal/point in mind.... so, laugh it off or groan, then move on....
@tobelairholmes Agreed. Merge this sketch with the themes from A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift and it'll sell far more mint flavoured biscuits or whatever everyone has decided the point of this satire is supposed to be. Why can't people just gently mock one another and get on with their lives without getting butthurt about it, why does there have to be some 'message' legitimising a natural human instinct to turn the tragic into the comedic? It's called black humour folks.
all this is, is saying if you dont donate this is what will happen. its actually pretty obvious. now if my kid had cancer and i saw this i dont think i would make that connection. i would probably go into insta-rage mode. so i understand why some people would be pissed at this.
i read the cracked article but this is just low... i dont understand how this is supposed to encourage people to donate? its a crack at kids with cancer, im sorry but as far as touchy subjects go it doesnt get much worse. Can you blame a regular member of society, perhaps a mother or father, for completely missing the (obscured) point here? correct me please i'd like to know what im missing here
@lol97d You are a bastard. Most of the homeless get the way they are from their own stupidity or wastefulness. Most would rather stay on the streets begging for money to but alcohol than offer to work as someone's maid or farmhand. Sleeping in a barn is far better than sleeping in the streets plus most farmhands are given meals as part of their payment. So why aren't the homeless doing this? Because they are downright sorry. Children didn't deserve to get sick.
I was watching the third series of the War One Everything on DVD and their little thingo at the beginning says they aren't allowed to air this for legal reasons, try youtube. XD So I thought I would just to rewatch it. And I still think it's funny, whilst also making a valid point. :]
@Sim151796 You missed the point. It wasn't making fun of the sick kids, it was making fun of make a wish foundation basically saying they don't really follow up as much as they make out.
i think that last line was really what pissed people off probably because it reflects on 80% of the population so rather than being told whats right they complain and bitch to cover up they really don't care i think anyone who did complain could be a hypocrite coz they probably;y didnt care about them before this and probably didnt care a whole lot after this
You know, I love The Chaser. However, this went over the line. "Why go to the trouble, when they're only going to die anyway?" isn't an acceptable thing to say, even for The Chaser. The moment I heard that line, I thought about the parents and families of all of those terminally ill children, and it wasn't a nice feeling. My parents donated $15,000 to the Starlight Foundation earlier this year, and everyone should get on board with a similar charity, because it really is a good thing to do.
@AussieTwentyNine that'sprobably alot of people attitude to the problem and when they heard the truth they got pissed off and complain i can see how this is offensive but i think people were being hypocritical
Your all idiots. All the kids in that sketch were actors. The Chaser's team are not so heartless they would do that to real sick kids. Morally Outraged people, go find another TV show to Harass
@bashfacerawr, dude I appreciate what youre trying to say but most Australians really loved this show and the few stupid ABC fundamentalists who got annoyed by this are the pussies, not the Australian public.
'do anything special for them when theyre going to die anyway' simply brings in the question of human sacrifice and ties in with the concept of Euthanasia that Australians are so shy to talk about. Either because of their ignorance or little skill in constructing a logical argument. My personal views on that line if anyone gives a shit is that it is spot on. I wouldnt expect anyone in society to do something special for me simpy because im dying. Dying or death changes nothing in social context.
Australian soceity is a failed concept. People who have been morally outraged by this sketch are completley ignorant and hypocritical. The sketch is not aimed at the children the sketch is aimed at the organisation which demonstrates the lack of thought and common sence many australians have. Furthermore many outraged people simply slandered the Chaser when they have done nothing to help this children while chaser at least has brought attention for theses children to the public. As for why do...
This really goes over the head of so many people. They are NOT making fun of the kids, it's a dig at charities. Why is it so hard for people to get it? I love the "here have a stick instead" bit. But it really annoyed me that ignorant knee-jerk reactions got this brilliant show taken off air.
this is really awful and whoeva put this on is sick in the hed these people need help and soo people shud b helping thm insted of talking the mik out of thm whoeva found this funni yooh really need ot get a lofe seriously coz if yooh do like it thn yooh need mental help :@
"Just in case the satire went over your head and you thought that sketch was only meant to be funny - the truth is, these kids will actually die - so don’t just laugh or complain - donate."
It worked for me, because I made a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation as a result of seeing (and I’m not ashamed to say, laughing at) this sketch. I wonder how many of the ‘morally outraged’ people, who have been so vocal in criticising The Chaser, put their money where their mouth is and did the same?
@Rowlph77 There are much more appropriate and respectful ways to promote donating to cancer victims. Many of the people who laugh at this have never had a family member or friend die from cancer. Some day they probably will, and their perspective will be very, very different. I'm glad the Chasers were canned.
this is so LOL , Australia really needs to relax its batty wherver this is from, this is lol. No one should have to "apologise" over this clip

Sim151796 1 year ago
@Sim151796 You missed the point. It wasn't making fun of the sick kids, it was making fun of make a wish foundation basically saying they don't really follow up as much as they make out.

I mostly hate the Chaser but this is pretty funny.

this is so fucking funny

i think that last line was really what pissed people off probably because it reflects on 80% of the population so rather than being told whats right they complain and bitch to cover up they really don't care i think anyone who did complain could be a hypocrite coz they probably;y didnt care about them before this and probably didnt care a whole lot after this
wilson69r 1 year ago 2

I think this whole skit was taken the wrong way like the eulogy song.
They were trying to say that those foundations are a business and don't really help out the needy kids.

I don`t think the Chaser actually meant to mock sick kids, my first thought when I saw this was that this is irony.

Your all idiots. All the kids in that sketch were actors. The Chaser's team are not so heartless they would do that to real sick kids. Morally Outraged people, go find another TV show to Harass

@bashfacerawr, dude I appreciate what youre trying to say but most Australians really loved this show and the few stupid ABC fundamentalists who got annoyed by this are the pussies, not the Australian public.
rubikscubinator 1 year ago 3
'do anything special for them when theyre going to die anyway' simply brings in the question of human sacrifice and ties in with the concept of Euthanasia that Australians are so shy to talk about. Either because of their ignorance or little skill in constructing a logical argument. My personal views on that line if anyone gives a shit is that it is spot on. I wouldnt expect anyone in society to do something special for me simpy because im dying. Dying or death changes nothing in social context.
bloodymarry667 1 year ago
Australian soceity is a failed concept. People who have been morally outraged by this sketch are completley ignorant and hypocritical. The sketch is not aimed at the children the sketch is aimed at the organisation which demonstrates the lack of thought and common sence many australians have. Furthermore many outraged people simply slandered the Chaser when they have done nothing to help this children while chaser at least has brought attention for theses children to the public. As for why do...
bloodymarry667 1 year ago 4
Awesome. So glad there's people who actually see that it's making fun of the charity, not the kids.
AngelaWhoable 1 year ago 4
they got cancelled for this? fuck the australian public are a bunch of pussies
bashfacerawr 1 year ago 6
This really goes over the head of so many people. They are NOT making fun of the kids, it's a dig at charities. Why is it so hard for people to get it? I love the "here have a stick instead" bit. But it really annoyed me that ignorant knee-jerk reactions got this brilliant show taken off air.

@courtzbbe You want a hand in tidying up the spelling and grammar? Any idea what satire is?
Vagajay 1 year ago 4
@courtzbbe And you need help spelling.
Andreask93 1 year ago 2
"Just in case the satire went over your head and you thought that sketch was only meant to be funny - the truth is, these kids will actually die - so don’t just laugh or complain - donate."
It worked for me, because I made a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation as a result of seeing (and I’m not ashamed to say, laughing at) this sketch. I wonder how many of the ‘morally outraged’ people, who have been so vocal in criticising The Chaser, put their money where their mouth is and did the same?
Rowlph77 1 year ago 49
@Rowlph77 So why go to any trouble its wasted money "there only going to die anyway."
xXThexXxniNEXx 1 year ago
@Rowlph77 So true mate, i have donated and so should everyone else! If people are so outraged dont just say somthing, do something and donate!!
xXNixenXx 1 year ago
@Rowlph77 There are much more appropriate and respectful ways to promote donating to cancer victims. Many of the people who laugh at this have never had a family member or friend die from cancer. Some day they probably will, and their perspective will be very, very different. I'm glad the Chasers were canned.
