fancy transitions of frames but distracting from the real beauty of Matisse's work. I'd prefer looking at a few paintings versus a hundred quick ones. Although, the music is an excellent complement. Perhaps, this is a perfect example of how digital technology pales in comparison to the real art of painting.
Thanks for posting the great video. This was beautifully done. Henri Matisse is my favorite painter. A year ago I did a reproduction of The Red Room 6:43.
@knoxvilleguy2 It's true about that. I prefer the rich color Matisse used.
I'm attempting right now to do something a'la Monet, but instead of water lilies I'm doing water wreaths, that way I can put different flowers and colors and maybe even a candle. It should turn out interesting.
@knoxvilleguy2 I have the same problem of things coming out flat. I only took art appreciation in college but I never had the patience to take a class on how to paint properly. My brother said I should have but why, so I can become known 100 years from now? :D I paint for pleasure and relaxation but it could be frustrating too. I just give whatever I paint to someone who likes it. The frame has a lot to making a painting look good. LOL! Well, at least mine.
@knoxvilleguy2 I've had better luck with sketching women's faces and I use powder makeup to color. It's quite effective and original, but it has to be sealed.
LOL! I like to write too, and I have freelanced on occasion; I have a novel in my mind but like with painting I always bite more than I can chew!
I remember trying to draw the face of this musician, Basia, from her album covers & getting something looking like Picasso ! That's when I thought " Try writing short stories..... ". I have done short videos, but nothing that's going to win any awards, except if the judges have low expectations ( Ken Burns I ain't ) !!!
@knoxvilleguy2 Check your private messages. I sent you a link to the Matisse reproduction I did of Harmony in Red.
I did a good sketch in charcoal of Diana Ross and one in powder color of Joan Collins. I also did one of Jean Harlow but that one I don't know where it is. I don't have it in Photobucket.
Interesting. Actually I'm green with envy right about now !! Actually kind of an avocado shade with patches of khaki & lime thrown in..... !! I have a photo of Marilyn that I could scan if you needed a reference. It's greyish - black & white, only her lips are red. M.M. has been done almost to the point of being a cliche.
@knoxvilleguy2 When I visited my brother I a bit surprised at how big the Matisse repro was. I guess I've forgotten the size of it..
No need to be green, believe me, it wasn't easy to make that. I had a hell of a time trying to get the right shade of red. .
You are right about Marilyn. She still bigger than any female celebrity today.
I left you another link to sketches and another painting in your PM. Absolutely! In this digital age, we need to go back and try to learn from the old masters.
Actually, a little envy is good if it moves someone to improve their own skill sets.
Even if they could clone MM, she wouldn't be the same as the original. Hence the term Classic. Kerouac is a classic, MM is a classic, John Lennon was a classic. Spielberg & Kurosawa are classics.
@knoxvilleguy2 I know what you mean. It's nice envy. You are right about Monroe. I saw one called Pola Lane (a real woman) who looked exactly like MM down to the voice, but the "essence" of Monroe's spirit wasn't there. Beautiful cubic zirconias can be made and even fool people, but nothing takes the place of a true and tried cut and polished diamond.
As the ancient Egyptians might say, the " Ka " of Marilyn wasn't there ( The " ka " being unique to each individual ). I learned about this from several semesters of cultural anthropology in college.
great work! can you please tell me the name of the song playing? is this from vivaldi or...
Thanks!!!

Some of his paintings could almost be described as " minimalist " while others are RIPE with color & detail.

Very interesting. I tried drawing & painting myself, but my works always looked flat. The majority of his painting burst with detail.

I tried drawing, painting, sketching, but just never could produce anything really good. So I got into writing. My Muse is a very capricious one !!
I'm still waiting to become discovered..... !!

I am always in AWE of Matisse's work. The vibrant colors, the exotic and sensual women. Even his more primitive work is breath taking.
