  • thanks !!!,I had woked with this MAN in COLON of BS AS.

  • pr me è ancora il migliore Wotan, interpretazione perfetta

  • Please let me know who is the conductor!

  • @pinintra I think it´s Karl Böhm...

  • @pinintra It's Thomas Schippers.

  • great performances

  • Is Silja the Brunnhilde?

  • Theo Adam als Wotan und diese Artikulation eine Klasse für sich .

Auf der Bühne ein großes Erlebnis.

  • Obligation, sacrifice, it isn't easy being Wotan.

Mr. Adam is very tender and believable.

  • Adam o grande, Wagner o Gênio !

  • yes, great singer

  • I think the 'Renouncement of love'-motif should actually be renamed to 'Sacrifice'-motif, since it returns throughout the cycle in various contexts, but always having to do with giving something up.

  • Pourquoi Wieland n'a-t-il as accepté les caméras??

  • Wait, why the renunciation of love motif at 1:40? Is it because he's using his head over his heart? I don't get it.

  • He's renuncing his love for his daughter...

  • "At least my protagonist is not a 'perfect fool'"

  • Light weight or not, this is beautifully sung.

  • I never said I disliked other basses or baritones as Wotan...my first Wotan was Theo on the Bohm Ring cycle and to me he epitomizes both the arrogance, kingliness and fatherly qualities of Wotan...other basses sing it with gravity and religiosity but he is not Sarastro in Zauberflote..he is the Nordic version of Zeus...Theo sings with pride and power..

  • Theo Adam was a legend and I enjoy him as Wotan better than any other baritone...it's such a treat to see this on Youtube...he was the Odin of Wagner's dreams

  • Hmm... what about McIntyre, Frantz, Stewart, London and Hotter? I tend to think each great artist brings something special to this great role. My personal fav is Hotter... although London (the power!!!) is also amazing. Be well and happy. Kind regards,

  • sorry, nobody will think so ... Still Adam is a great singer!

  • I tend to prefer Wotan done by a bass (in fact, now that I think about it, Ramey would make a great Wotan) but this is a superb rendition.

  • Now there's a thought! I've got Ramey thoroughly associated with Mephistopheles, so Mephisto as Wotan, would put Brunhilde in the position of scheming to hasten her father's destruction.

Ramey as Wotan would be a masterful production I can only imagine the sound of. The Met, I suppose.

  • Beautiful.

    Love Die Walkure so much!

  • The Philips recording is a great set. I think its just as good or better then Soltis

  • Adam was reputed to be a major-league Heldenbariton, but his voice strikes me as a little light for this repetoire -- though its size is difficult to judge from this video --

  • Theo Adam was the first Wotan I heard, in the Phillips recordings from the Bayreuth Festival under Karl Böhm. I've never heard a better Wotan, allthough I will say that James Morris was a very good one in recent times.

  • MY other favorite Father daughter duet is from Simon Boccanegra

  • at 6:19 he says, "Loge, you hear?"

and to you noobs, YES i know what he really says: "Loge! Hieher!"

  • But he has a German accent! He's German! He is singing in ----- well.. German!

What kind of an accent do you want, or do you mean his vocal timbre or weight and not his accent?

  • Yes indeed ! I heard minute 6:19. It is PERFECT GERMAN. The vowel E must be said in a sort of subtle diphtong as in HEAR, very similar, though less pronounced. It does not sound YOU HEAR. It sounds Hiher PERFECTLY PRONOUNCED, only that some singers try to focus on one vowel for better vocal freedom, as there are also tricks in french for instance for french singers. It seems the other reader was looking for details with a loop. Not a good approach to art, for spontaneity and enjoyment are lost,

  • Theo Adam is a sweet and delicat Wotan. Powerful without to try so hard, just what singing should be. I love it. Bravo

  • many people misunderstood size of a voice with darkness and fake ring. Some bright voices like Nilsson and Flagstad have the biggest voice in history.

  • So this is Bayreuth festival visiting Osaka in 1967, Theo Adam is the kind of Wotan I really enjoy.

  • Theo Adam is the ultimate Wotan! BumbumDK.

  • I think that this is a better voice, than on his recording of the Mastersingers.

  • too light a voice
