  • I couldn't agree more, Darth.

  • I think the reason why they don't add the stuff we want in DVDs and games is the initial cost; not that I'd know of this-OR they wish to make us spend more money on 'extra features' later. as for pirating--yeah, its pretty stupid. the bastards who want to steal will steal anyway

  • Thats a thing about DLC too, you get DLC if you pre order it so you only get that if you've bought it at full release price not waiting 2 weeks when its on special offer, or when they release a paid dlc weeks after release so even though you've just bought the game full price if you want this particular part you've got to pay again for the game more than you origonally thought, also buying it at one particular store over another has store specific dlc these days which you cant even buy elsewhere

  • Mass Effect 2 has the same issue (and I love the series)... like the Cerberus Network for Mass Effect 2, if you bought the game new, you got the Cerberus Network for free and the extra missions for free, if you didnt you had to pay 2000 MSP for it :/

  • In most cases the "anti piracy" measures promotes piracy. Like unskippable ads or DRM which hinders gameplay. As much as those measures are meant to be stop piracy- it doesn't affect the pirates in the slightest (They remove the countermeasures) but instead punishes the legit people who bought it. It's a joke to be honest. A plus side being: Studies have shown that pirating of items actually promotes sales of items.

  • There will always be a lot of people who would prefer to legitimately buy your products. Some people just don't have the money. As long as people understand that they're not helping the company that created the game by pirating it, they will know that pirating is not appropriate. There are some people who just don't care, but I think the majority of people want these games to keep being made. Piracy though is used too often as an excuse for a game failing on its own merits and/or marketing.

  • I'm nodding my head currently, and that's about the only thing that I can say about this that hasn't been said.

  • Great rant! I hope logic and missed revenue will help them change their minds, but if you look at the immense role that negative incentives currently play throughout society, that's not likely to change very soon. Just like there's certain people that never buy and always pirate where possible, there's also those to who have found great success through unethical behaviour, to whom logic and missed revenue is less important than their illusions of power and justice. But they starve with progress.

  • Back in my day we used to pirate video games by downloading them off the radio. It was hilarious.

Regarding the Arkham City issue you brought up, that tactic REALLY bugs me. It's not "Buy the game new if you want a bonus character" it's "Buy the game new if you want to play half of the game including the final level." They did it with the new Alice in Wonderland game, too. It's kind of a dick move of titanic proportions.

  • @CPCGamer To be fair the Catwoman stuff is the most tacked on thing ever. But if I buy second hand I have to pay you some money for the privilege of working that out.

And quiet with that back in my day stuff you. :p

  • @CPCGamer Did they use to broadcast over the radio, I imagine recording the blips and bleeps for half an hour would get irritating to get an amstrad game you got free with the magazines, and if the broadcast had interference itd do interesting things for the coding like give your character 3 heads perhaps? Back then cheat codes were on line 10 change code to blahblahblah before loading.

  • @wackykitchen There used to be assorted pirate radio stations that used to broadcast games. You'd tune in, wait for the stop bit, wait for the guy to go "Treasure island dizzy by Codemasters" and hit record. While I didn't do such things myself (I was 4, 5 when I played my CPC) I imagine it would be annoying enough to listen to the entire raw data stream of any given game.

  • @CPCGamer Yeah I think itd be worth a few quid not to listen to the entire raw data stream, but saying that my amstrad use to make those noises and give you colourful visions of the datastream as you loaded it anyway, Ive no idea where my mum bought them but they were official copies of the games, I still have the tapes, most likely off the boot sale though. If you've got kwah you should do a playthrough, Id like to see past area 2 for once lol.

  • Lots of my real dvds, like 24, have an unskippable anti piracy ad at the beginning of all of them. So I ripped them using DVDFab to take the ads off. I had to 'pirate' my own stuff in order to be able to watch them properly like a pirate would be able to.

  • @beatchef Just what I am raving about. A punishment for paying for their product.
