However, as someone who was born Orthodox and left the church, I have now come to appreciate the beauty of its symbolism. Just keep away from the hierarchies and the priests, and focus on the spirituality of the tradition. Especially these days with the Anastasi, the symbolism of Life overcoming death.

if it were not for the guidence of my priest i wouldnt have had my salvation confirmed for myself. I think it is most wise to stick to the priest and Hirachies and constantly ask questions and if u are blessed with a priest i was blessed to know then youl understand your faith, Hohlakoi needs to understand that it is only through Christ that one is saved. do you know how many Priests have harmed believers??? there are people who have ended up in Psychiatric hospitals because of the things that Priests told them about how Sinful they are.... Hohlakoi is right. Priests in their majority are flawed. the chances of actually finding a good priest to guide you is like finding a needle in a haystack. Focus on your faith and your spirituality, read about Jesus and pray to Him. He is the only Truth.

To reach the kingdom of heaven you need to realize that you need the church, and the hierarchies. They are the ones who guide you, teach you, etc. You also need to remember the Sacraments, which you can only get through the Church.

Baptism, Chrismation, Holy Communion, Confession, Marriage, Holy Unction, and Ordination. You absolutely need the church, including priests and hierarchs for these. Please go back to your church!!!
