have you done research on the phrase used in colossians? It specifically reveals that it is speaking of the seventh day. It doesn't matter whether we want to believe its a shadow or not..its what the bible says that matters and I guarantee that you'll find this to be true if you do the search yourself and not just listen to your preachers.
Gods rest started on the day his work was done but it never ended that day. He has always been in rest from that work since that day. Our rest starts the moment our work is done the day we come to Christ to be made complete and we are forever in rest from that day forward.

I disagree with your reasoning behind Nehemiah. In searching the scriptures you see no mention whatsoever of any man before moses keeping it. Instead you see it expressly given to moses first.
You see verses which say the covenant wasn't made with their fathers, that it was made with them when they were brought out of egypt.

have you read hebrews 3 and 4 in its entirety because if so you see something rather interesting. He does speak about a day when you lay down your works but its not what you think even those aspects of it sound quite similar.

It is interesting the in the Old Testament the colours of the garments that the priests were to wear were blue, purple, scarlet and gold. Catholic priests wear all these but blue. @Myhopeisinhim I'm not an adventist, but i know by simply reading the word of God, that the 7th day is the real sabbath and that He is serious about it. That alone is enough to keep it, why would you not honor God's will, word, and wishes??? not only that, but we NEED it for our regeneration on a weekly basis. He refreshes and realigns us / our minds with Himself on the Sabbath if we rest/ pray to Him, practice His Presence, He heals us, etc.
No one is arguing that the seventh day is the real seventh day sabbath of the old covenant. We all agree 100%:) God had numerous feast days under the old covenant, but as the new covenant explains they were all foreshadows and the greater reality of them was Jesus.
You know what's strange. Don't you ever wonder about the breaking of bread? Jesus celebrated it with his disciples on the passover, and said to do this in remembrance of him. What day do people remember this? On easter and not the passover. I wonder why sda's and others don't complain about rome changing this.

The Lord rested on the seventh day at creation because his work was done, but the scriptures teach that it wasn't given to man until he revealed it to Moses(Nehemiah 9).

not find it strange that he never ever showed anyone keeping it in the book of Genesis. And if memory serves me correct, you will see that there were no keeping of days in the book of Genesis. The sign of a covenant with Noah was the bow in the sky and the sign of a covenant with Abraham was circumcision.
The sabbath was a sign in the mosaic covenant, and we're even told in the scriptures that there were no other nations that had so righteous a law as the israelites.
We're even told that the covenant that was made with Moses, the one in Horeb, the ten commandments, was not made with their forefathers, but with them who were alive that day and it was made when they left Egypt.
All the evidence points to the contrary of it being instituted at creation. What happened at creation was God stopping his work because it was complete, and later, at the appointed time, it was given to Moses and the people.
I would actually suggest you start reading Hebrews 3, you'll notice a pattern. The day being spoken of in Hebrews 4 is not what you think. It wasn't confirming the keeping of the seventh day sabbath...the proof is in the verses you gave:

The sabbath mimicked the plan of salvation. How, when by faith you finally come, you are made perfect in Christ, and the Most Holy Place becomes available to you which is God's place of rest. You are perfected and can now finally find rest. This happens the day you enter into faith, the day you enter into belief

Hebrews 3&4 mentions the word today about 5-6 times. The day you enter into rest is today, and today you can become holy through Jesus if you do not harden your heart and enter into faith.
Colossians speaks correctly when it says the seventh day sabbath was a shadow, but someone changed the scriptures and taught people that it was referring only to the rest days that landed on other feast days, but if all would only search the scriptures, they'd see that the phrase, "holy days, new moon, sabbath days" referred to the yearly, monthly and weekly feasts that were held...such as the day of atonement was yearly, new moon was monthly, and the seventh day sabbath was...
My friend, you may wish to do a study on this phrase for yourself because the proof for this is in the scriptures. I have videos of studies I've done on these topics because I too wanted to know what was revealed in the scriptures pertaining to these things.

@Myhopeisinhim I'm sorry brother, but again, you can't insist on a spiritual/figurative Sabbath-keeping as a replacement of the literal Sabbath-keeping of the Ten Commandments because Paul chose the exact word to represent the FACT of LITERAL SABBATH-KEEPING-"Sabbatismos". Please do more research on this terminology and you will find that this word pertains SOLELY on literal sabbath-keeping. This word removes all ambiguity as to its literal or spiritual connotation.

@Myhopeisinhim If you look at the context of Nehemiah 9, the Sabbath is being revealed because the Israelite people have forgotten of the Seventh-day Sabbath. This is proven by the rain of mana on Exodus 16, before Mount Horeb. Besides this, the very content of the Sabbath Commandment proves that it involves MORE THAN just being redeemed from Slavery, otherwise, Exodus 20: 8 should have not, and needed not, to refer to Gen. 2:1. But it did and we should not dismiss that.
@MichaelSparkz No Michael... According this text, it's only at Sinaï they received the sabbath not before. If you read Dt 5, 3, it's clear that the People received the law only there not before. Also, this text declares that the 10c was the old covenant. Neh 9 confirm what Dt proclaim. Other thing, you can read Gen completly. In no time he ordered the man to keep the Sabbath. The Sabbath was given to Israel because of their slavery and not to humanity.

Sabbatarians simply cannot see that the Law and the Prophets AS A UNIT pointed to Christ (it did not cease until all was fulfilled by Him- Matt.5:17ff). Thereafter, all law is subsumed and transcended by Christ's higher 'law' (mediated by His Spirit). At best the Decalogue remains as a pedagogue only. The Sabbath (Rest) pointed back to deliverance from Egypt, rest in God (His Rest begun at Creation) and forward to deliverance in Christ, our Spiritual Rest (Matt.11:28)

Another interesting thing to note was that the first day of worship after the resurrection was on a sunday;) And another day of worship the following sunday when Jesus appeared to them again.
And then as you said the day he gave his Spirit was on a sunday. If worshiping God on sunday is wrong as some say, then why did Jesus appear to permit this worship to occur two weeks in a row? and longer.

I have fond memories of Sundays with family. Dinners, picnics great fun. I would like to see people actually take a whole weekend. Worship on Sabbath, and play, visit, socialize on Sunday.
Of the ten commandments the sabbath commandment IS THE ONLY ONE with the word remember. You cannot alter that. The ten commandments were given so people knew how to relate to God and to their fellow human beings.

@flintstone9812~ You must take God at His word and not pick through. When God gave the 10 Commandments he gave them to the Children of Israel, for the land of Israel. Which covenant are you in? Adamic, Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, Davidic, or the Covenant of Grace which came through the Abrahamic Covenant??
It isn't, however, the only commandment of GOD that contains the term remember. God had 603 other commandments contained within HIS law. There are others that were holy, and others that have the term remember.
The passover, which leads into the feast of unleavened bread, is one that they were told to remember, and not to mention it was holy as well. You might try to keep his commands to only ten, but people were condemned for not following the ENTIRE book, not just the ten.
The Ten Commandments were different from the other 600-plus in that they are the ONLY ones which God deemed fit to PERSONALLY writ upon stone, not once, but twice, after Moses went into a snit and destroyed the first pair of stone tablets.
Even today the significance of something being "written on stone" is that its total unchangeability and permanence are understood to be unspoken facts.

@mythmanjay The only work "necessary" on sabbath is taking care of others. In countries with strict sabbath keeping the whole country doesn't crash when people observe sabbath. It is actually quite peaceful. Cooks, waiters are in the business of operating restaurants. We are instructed not to buy or sell on Sabbath. Buying causes others to work. That is not Sabbatical.
Most Americans do not understand the concept of Sabbath that is where the confusion comes in. Sabbath is rest commune with God.

In Luke 4:16, Jesus observed the Sabbath BY CUSTOM, and in Mark 2:27 He states that it was made FOR MAN. This denotes ALL OF MANKIND.
Jesus as CREATOR OF ALL THINGS most certainly knew WHY He made the Sabbath the ONLY holy day of the week, did He not? For MAN to REST from His weekly labors and spend QUALITY TIME with HIM!
He spoke about how the disciples, and the priests profaned, broke the sabbath, and were innocent...David who took the shewbread in the temple, which was not lawful for him to eat, yet he remained innocent.
How could the disciples break the sabbath, yet not be guilty in the eyes of God? Jesus wasn't ordering people to keep the sabbath there, he wasn't saying it was mandatory; after all he just explained the disciples broke the sabbath and were innocent.
There is a special truth that Jesus taught there that isn't being seen. The question I'll leave you with is the one above...How could the disciples break the sabbath, yet not be guilty in the eyes of God?
The point that Jesus was making was of the MANNER in which the Pharisees complained of the Sabbath's being broken, the motivation leading to the actions taken. They were being "book smart" about it, rather than willing to yield a bit, or "bend the rule" for specific situations of need which arose, so Jesus WHO IS GOD, rebutted their allegations KNOWING WHAT WAS IN THEIR HEARTS, as well as in the hearts of His disciples.
Which DAY the Sabbath fell on was never an issue there, either.
So the sabbath day law can be bent if a special need arises? What about the need of a fire to keep warm, and since the man didn't gather sticks previously, why couldn't they simply have bent the rule for him?

100% CORRECT. I sinned and never kept it and one day realised it. Problem is many don't want to stop doing what they want. The Sunday observers like to go to church and then go to watch the game or shopping. People don't want to keep it holy.

Christ rose on the first day of the week...if he be not risen our faith is in vain.
We are no longer looking forward to the first coming of the messiah, as represented in the old covenant, but now we are remembering what he did for us, and how that since he is alive we also will be raised up with him in the last day.
It's because he is alive, and has overcome death that we will, too. I don't know about anyone else, but what better day to remember that then on the day he rose again.

Gods rest started on the day his work was done but it never ended that day. He has always been in rest from that work since that day. Our rest starts the moment our work is done the day we come to Christ to be made complete and we are forever in rest from that day forward.

I disagree with your reasoning behind Nehemiah. In searching the scriptures you see no mention whatsoever of any man before moses keeping it. Instead you see it expressly given to moses first.
You see verses which say the covenant wasn't made with their fathers, that it was made with them when they were brought out of egypt.
God saw fit to show us how abraham performed sacrifices and circumcision but couldn't show him keeping the sabbath? Lack of proof gives credence to nehemiahs words.

The day being mentioned that one should lay down their works is today..here and now. Today, not a specific day of the week...but here and now. Today is the day to enter the rest of God.

It is interesting the in the Old Testament the colours of the garments that the priests were to wear were blue, purple, scarlet and gold. Catholic priests wear all these but blue. Blue represents Gods Law (Numbers 15:38-39. It is interesting the Catholic Priests do wear the colours relating to Royalty (purple, gold) Sacrifice (scarlet) but not obedience to the law. That alone is enough to keep it, why would you not honor God's will, word, and wishes??? not only that, but we NEED it for our regeneration on a weekly basis. He refreshes and realigns us / our minds with Himself on the Sabbath if we rest/ pray to Him, practice His Presence, He heals us, etc.

You know what's strange. Don't you ever wonder about the breaking of bread? Jesus celebrated it with his disciples on the passover, and said to do this in remembrance of him. What day do people remember this? On easter and not the passover. I wonder why sda's and others don't complain about rome changing this.
I'd like to point out though in regards to christians remembering the work of Christ on the first day of the week started long before the catholic church had any say.

not find it strange that he never ever showed anyone keeping it in the book of Genesis. And if memory serves me correct, you will see that there were no keeping of days in the book of Genesis. The sign of a covenant with Noah was the bow in the sky and the sign of a covenant with Abraham was circumcision.
The sabbath was a sign in the mosaic covenant, and we're even told in the scriptures that there were no other nations that had so righteous a law as the israelites.

We're even told that the covenant that was made with Moses, the one in Horeb, the ten commandments, was not made with their forefathers, but with them who were alive that day and it was made when they left Egypt.
All the evidence points to the contrary of it being instituted at creation. What happened at creation was God stopping his work because it was complete, and later, at the appointed time, it was given to Moses and the people.

I would actually suggest you start reading Hebrews 3, you'll notice a pattern. The day being spoken of in Hebrews 4 is not what you think. It wasn't confirming the keeping of the seventh day sabbath...the proof is in the verses you gave:
So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: "Today when you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."*(Hebrews 4:7).

Please do more research on this terminology and you will find that this word pertains SOLELY on literal sabbath-keeping. This word removes all ambiguity as to its literal or spiritual connotation.

@Myhopeisinhim If you look at the context of Nehemiah 9, the Sabbath is being revealed because the Israelite people have forgotten of the Seventh-day Sabbath. This is proven by the rain of mana on Exodus 16, before Mount Horeb. Besides this, the very content of the Sabbath Commandment proves that it involves MORE THAN just being redeemed from Slavery, otherwise, Exodus 20: 8 should have not, and needed not, to refer to Gen. 2:1. But it did and we should not dismiss that.

Also, this text declares that the 10c was the old covenant. Neh 9 confirm what Dt proclaim. Other thing, you can read Gen completly. In no time he ordered the man to keep the Sabbath. Sabbatarians simply cannot see that the Law and the Prophets AS A UNIT pointed to Christ (it did not cease until all was fulfilled by Him- Matt.5:17ff). Thereafter, all law is subsumed and transcended by Christ's higher 'law' (mediated by His Spirit). At best the Decalogue remains as a pedagogue only. The Sabbath (Rest) pointed back to deliverance from Egypt, rest in God (His Rest begun at Creation) and forward to deliverance in Christ, our Spiritual Rest (Matt.11:28)

I have had discussions with people at work.
They initiated it hoping to convince me I was wrong.
I used biblical texts and disproved every "first day" text they said meant the Sabbath was changed to Sunday. They got mad.

The Vatican's claim that it is immune from civil-criminal prosecution with respect to it's present involvement in a worldwide child-sex-abuse scandal by Church-prelates because it is a sovereign nation and therefore protected by international law (Sovereign Nation Immunity Act) is in my opinion irrelevent!

Another interesting thing to note was that the first day of worship after the resurrection was on a sunday;) And another day of worship the following sunday when Jesus appeared to them again.
And then as you said the day he gave his Spirit was on a sunday. If worshiping God on sunday is wrong as some say, then why did Jesus appear to permit this worship to occur two weeks in a row? and longer.
If worshiping on sunday means worshiping the sun god, why didn't he rebuke them?

I have fond memories of Sundays with family. Dinners, picnics great fun. I would like to see people actually take a whole weekend. Worship on Sabbath, and play, visit, socialize on Sunday.

Of the ten commandments the sabbath commandment IS THE ONLY ONE with the word remember. You cannot alter that. The ten commandments were given so people knew how to relate to God and to their fellow human beings.

@AdventistDefense Yes, the word 'sanctify' was also used. To make holy. It amazes me that humans would seek to undo anything that God made holy. Actually, it frightens me.
The thought of going against God makes me tremble. Not because I am afraid of God himself, but rather afraid of the consequences of adhering to sin and rejecting God.
The bible uses the word fear. In todays language it would be more appropriate to use respect. Now that I understand what God is about, I no longer "fear" Him.

It isn't, however, the only commandment of GOD that contains the term remember. God had 603 other commandments contained within HIS law. There are others that were holy, and others that have the term remember.
The passover, which leads into the feast of unleavened bread, is one that they were told to remember, and not to mention it was holy as well. You might try to keep his commands to only ten, but people were condemned for not following the ENTIRE book, not just the ten.

The Ten Commandments were different from the other 600-plus in that they are the ONLY ones which God deemed fit to PERSONALLY writ upon stone, not once, but twice, after Moses went into a snit and destroyed the first pair of stone tablets.
Even today the significance of something being "written on stone" is that its total unchangeability and permanence are understood to be unspoken facts.

He reminded the Israelites at Mt. Sinai.
The Hebrew calendar has carefully kept track of every seventh day since then. Even the Roman calendar that Americans use has the seventh correctly spaced. Several languages use the word sabbath for "Saturday" named for Saturn.

No one has control over what day they are born. And God doesn't hold children accountable until they are of an age to understand His will.
It is very simple.
The fourth commandment tells us the sabbath is holy and we are to remember it.
It was sanctified at creation, before there were any Jews.
Why do some people get angry over the concept of sabbath?
Humans need a rest day to keep from getting stressed out or becoming sick.

@mythmanjay The only work "necessary" on sabbath is taking care of others. In countries with strict sabbath keeping the whole country doesn't crash when people observe sabbath. It is actually quite peaceful. Cooks, waiters are in the business of operating restaurants. We are instructed not to buy or sell on Sabbath. Buying causes others to work. That is not Sabbatical.
Most Americans do not understand the concept of Sabbath that is where the confusion comes in. Sabbath is rest commune with God.

"Sabbath" is the only day God gave a name to. The others are all numbers and had to be named by men.

Sabbath was kept before the Israelites reached Mt. Sinai. Read the story of the manna.

They were also commanded to 'remember' the day they were freed from egypt.(Exo 13)
And in the new covenant we were commanded to remember the blood which was shed, and his body which was broken for us.
So no, the sabbath command isn't the only one that deals with the word Remember.

In Luke 4:16, Jesus observed the Sabbath BY CUSTOM, and in Mark 2:27 He states that it was made FOR MAN. This denotes ALL OF MANKIND.
Jesus as CREATOR OF ALL THINGS most certainly knew WHY He made the Sabbath the ONLY holy day of the week, did He not? For MAN to REST from His weekly labors and spend QUALITY TIME with HIM!

What did he say just prior to Mark 2:27?
He spoke about how the disciples, and the priests profaned, broke the sabbath, and were innocent...David who took the shewbread in the temple, which was not lawful for him to eat, yet he remained innocent.
How could the disciples break the sabbath, yet not be guilty in the eyes of God? Jesus wasn't ordering people to keep the sabbath there, he wasn't saying it was mandatory; after all he just explained the disciples broke the sabbath and were innocent.

The point that Jesus was making was of the MANNER in which the Pharisees complained of the Sabbath's being broken, the motivation leading to the actions taken. They were being "book smart" about it, rather than willing to yield a bit, or "bend the rule" for specific situations of need which arose, so Jesus WHO IS GOD, rebutted their allegations KNOWING WHAT WAS IN THEIR HEARTS, as well as in the hearts of His disciples.
Which DAY the Sabbath fell on was never an issue there, either.

100% CORRECT. I sinned and never kept it and one day realised it. Problem is many don't want to stop doing what they want. The Sunday observers like to go to church and then go to watch the game or shopping. People don't want to keep it holy.

Do you boil water? Do you light a fire in your fire place? Do you stop to get gas on your way to church?

When Adam and eve Got kicked out of the Garden is when they were given these commands. Kane slew able and lied to Creator about it. God disowned Kane. Cane knew that he should not have lied or killed. That is why He got cut off. Before the flood there were commandments. People were doing evil contunuously just as it is today. Thnk about it. Remember in the garden when Adam mentioned that he hid because he was naked...and God asked him, who told you thou wast naked?
Obviously, God didn't tell them to hide because they were naked. It was a knowledge they acquired. Even kids have this conscience before you even read to them anything from the law of God.

they went against what they knew was right in their conscience, their heart...The bible tells us that they sinned in a different manner than what Adam did.
Adam broke a direct command from God, the men from adam till Moses broke what they knew was wrong in their hearts.
So because of this sin, God gave them a law. Remember the bible tells us that the law was given to the unrighteous, to the murderer, to the adulterer so that their mouths would be stopped and the whole world accountable.

2) The law was given to the unrighteous to bring them accountable before God
3) The sabbath wasn't made known to the people until Moses

2) By MAN came death (1 Cor. 15:21); it was ONLY because of MAN's transgressions, or SINS, that death has EVER become necessary.
The wages of SIN is death (Rom. 6:23; see #1. Incidentally, DEATH is NOT burning eternally in a fire).
3) ALL have sinned (Rom. 3:23).
3) SIN is the transgression of the LAW (1 John 3:4), so in one form or another, there has ALWAYS been a law for man to obey.

If only people would realize that Christ has instituted His holy rest day at Creation, and that it is the seventh dayof the week, NOT the first, I believe there wouldn't be such an intense focus on Sundays as anything more valuable than the work days which God has informed us that they were and still are.
But I certainly don't see THAT happening!

Christ rose on the first day of the week...if he be not risen our faith is in vain.
We are no longer looking forward to the first coming of the messiah, as represented in the old covenant, but now we are remembering what he did for us, and how that since he is alive we also will be raised up with him in the last day.
It's because he is alive, and has overcome death that we will, too. I don't know about anyone else, but what better day to remember that then on the day he rose again.

I'm not saying worshiping him on Saturday is bad..but the original sabbath and laws pointed ahead to his first coming...pointed ahead to the coming promise of the Messiah who had yet to come.
In the new covenant we're given a new remembrance which is to remember what our messiah did for us via the bread and wine...How he lived, died and shed his blood, and rose again the third day..
Whatever day you esteem, give it to the Lord for he deserves all honor praise and Glory.

Think about it this way.
The Sabbath day is the last day of the creation week, of the Old creation
Sunday, the first day of the week, represents what
1) The first day God started the old creation
2) The first day God started the new creation in Jesus Christ..the day that others also rose from the graves and wondered around
Don't you see the significance in that? The first day is the start of BOTH creations!
First we come to Christ and are made a new creation, then we have REST in him.
