I love Barbra and Dionne. Barbra approached this material as an actress if you watch "A Star is Born." Dionne approaches it as a pop song, which she is great at. Just different.
IMy house had burned down the night before this concert. I had ordered a limousine that picked me up in front of a completely burned down pr0perty and took me to this concert. I still smelled of smoke and celebrated like I had never done before. Thank You Dionne.
Art is not a contest!!! There is no winner or loser, better or worse, good or bad. There is only Art that touches your soul more or Art that touches it less... and this subjectivity can change based on monumental factors such as one's mood, time of day, side of the bed one woke, etc. Have you ever seen a hand painting of a young child and have it stir an emotion? Even if that emotion is "How cute?", Art is doing it's "thing". Go deeper...again, GO DEEPER!!! Just let the Art move you, period!
dionne is way better not only to she put soul in the song ,she put class into the song .live dionne is one in a million .on the other hand barbra has no soul to her songs and she is boring live
why is everyone so surprised!? She is merely going back to her gospel roots. Dionne came up during the "golden age" of gospel music (40s-60s). That was some of the swingingest & rocking music ever created. Plus her families group, The Drinkard Singers, was one of gospel's best. The Drinkards were also the early Sweet Inspirations, included Dionne, Dee Dee Warwick, Cissy Houston, Doris Troy & Judy Clay.
How is this "rock"? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Dionne fan, and love that you have the Soundstage version. I think if you want "rockin'" Dionne, check out some of the Solid Gold clips on my channel, she does Loverboy, Mr. Mister, Starship, Wham, Thompson Twins, Pointer Sisters, Billy Joel.
para mi gusto dionne se regodea muchisimo mas en las notas que barbara en esta cancion, amen de incorporar los giros propios de su entranamiento en el gospel haciendo de esta cancion una intelpretacion muy superior a la version de miss. barbara streisand
i think Dionne's version is totally different when taken out of the movie context. they're totally diff performer and diff styles, love both but prefer Babra's version better, something about the range of notes ib Babs version
I watch this it reminds me of something the great Marianne Faithfull said about Dionne 'what I love about her is everytime she sings what you get is intelligences, real intelligences", yeah!!
I saw Dionne sing this at the Kansas State Fair in the late 70's. She opened with it, standing on an outside stage, with her hair longer and blowing in a slight breeze. I think she was wearing a pant suit. She was filling in for Helen Reddy (who abandoned her obligation, saying she was sick - but performed elsewhere. They sued, and she sang the next year as part of the settlement.) The live performance was great...better than comes across here. Thanks for posting.
At her best Dionne could really swing. This is great. I like late 70s-early 80s Dionne a lot.

Every artist is known for their individuality and not by comparisons and one's own personal preference. I love 'em all!!

Barbra sings this with artistry, precision and fluidity but add in depth and soul and you've got Dionne's heart wrenching rendition. Case closed.

I think that Dionne does justice to this song (even if Babs's version is a bit better). Thanks for posting this!
