Listen man...I used this method for a very long time and it worked wonders. But I have thoroughly convinced myself that burning leather is a VERY BAD IDEA! Take away the lighter and add some extra elbow grease, and you get the same result.
Also, my buddy at school uses this strange white solution that is INCREDIBLE...but he won't tell anyone how to make it. Any idea as to what it is? (smells like dish soap and floor cleaner).
@markdup you not supposed to burn the leather your simply melting the polish.
I used this method for the entire life of my shoes which was 7 years and about 63 drill comps to the point that the sols were worn down and the shoes became unserviceable but the leather was still in tact and the polish and not cracked.
@markdup about your friend, it sounds like painting Clear coat to me. How about a test, have him shine his shoes the regular way, because if it is clear coat there is no way he will ever be able to shine his shoes the normal way again.
Yo dude ur method is my favorite cos its so simple but my sgt said if u polish like that its shines on water and if u are on a parade and its hot the shine will go off is it true?
@lilbrat454 i know my freind used to burn shine his ar cadet an after using that method lots of times his bots cracked when he banged i don't burn shine my boots and now they are very shiny cuz i know how to polish it properly
hey come on guys lets not argue, im also british, ive just watched this and i love it, im going to go try this now on my parade shoes so thank you very much for all your help. @antonius351 thank u so much for not talkin shit on hear. if usa is friends with u in the real world then americans like me should get along with britains like u. i salute u my good friend =)
I am British and An Air cadet with 351 (Burton-Upon-Trent squadron), i have just tried your method and it works BRILLIANTLY! Thank you so much, you're an absolute legend! The rest of the British had stop hating :@
Thank God - Finally a good video this video is the fucking best, my CO was really impressed. It works on British Assult Boots but it takes about 3 hours of repeating this process. thank you rodan9. 5 star
Can i just say that all of us British folk are NOT like alan5320, don't use the umbrella term that the British are idiots, and i can't see why this wouldn't work on our shoes/boots, the leather all comes from a cow at the end of the day. On a lighter note, nice method, I'm going to go try this now,
If you don't know how to shine your boots then you need to be kicked in the balls.
I mean they showed us how in basic right? here is how you do it without lighter.
#1 apply the polish
#2. Take your brush and buff the shit out of your boots keep applying the polish and buffing until your boots turn a cloudy looking gray(build the layers)
#3. take a cotton ball(moist) and rub it on your boots.
#4. You will have boots that look like diamonds I guarantee.
im sorry but im british and all of these other tits are sayin 'does it work on british shoes' last time i checked american shoes are made out of leather the same as british you dumb shits im in the air training corps (british) adn to be honest im gunna try this method COS AMERICAN BOOTS ARE THE SAME AS BRITISH ONES. we just polish the toe thats all and not the heel.
Basically there's a regulation against this in the british/canadian militaries, and we're all a bit mouthy, so excuse the idiots.
Since the heating process 'cooks' the polish into a hard shell, which, on a long enough march is supposed to flake or chip off. I can't verify this though.
I will retain this technique in case of emergencies.
And much as I want to trash talk you over it... I can't help but suspect that my sergeant has done the EXACT same thing you did. Thank you for teaching me, man.
@rodan9 Well, you know, American ways come over different in the UK. I don't know the reasons for those, but I don't think this is what I want to do with my shoes. Just wondering what the differences are between the boots.
Just pausing here, half way, I see now how the shine is attained. I read that the flame should not touch the shoe and only be exposed to the shoe for a few seconds, although I wonder if that is enough time.
I've finished watching it and now I'm left wondering if this can be done on normal shoes? I mean, I'll try it some time but it seems like an army method specifically for the army and not civilians.
I am so impressed. Your attention to detail should be a standard that all men who wear shoes or boots that can take a shine should strive to achieve. Don't listen to these negative haters. Until they post a video of their method getting better results, they'll all be considered just a bunch of trash talkers whom delight in trying to knock down those of us who strive for perfection in all facets of life. Great Job and thank you for taking the time.
man really tape will take off the polish dont use lighters or anything u will get demoted just whan you are bored useally 3 times a week use a kiwi rag and polish / parade gloss/neutral polish(clear) if any cadets at my corp did that they would get demoted and any dont do this
not all jrotc rotc and military operate like YOUR unit. nor does your unit set the ruless for the rest of the military in any capacity. And if you were paying attention, you would see that in this video the whole boot isn't polished. Where the tape sticks is not an area that is polished. btw kiwi parade gloss is shit.
man but if u tape it you will go over it some time like he wentover it and it will make a bump in your boot and man ur boots suck gloss is good if it is fresh and you can melt the bottom of the can on cracked polich or put a penny in it the copper will keep it from cracking
melting the polish in the can will ruin the polish
don't melt in the can melt in on the shoe.
also in the airforce, you don't polish the whole boot just the heel and toe. the tape is to just get a perfect straight line separating the polished from unpolished. A lot of active duty honor guards also do this. also you don't need to worry about a "bump" because your not supposed to be touching shoes.
i think its stupid and cheating how he does it if your in the armed forces shouldnt you be proud to spend what an hour or two watching tv while your polishing your boots properly i go air cadets i'm 15 years old and your pathetic hahahaand my shoes are shinier than yours...
So what are the channels of your boots exacly?? Are the channels like the stiching in your boots sort of?? Well anyways I use a toothbrush of my Air Cadet boots also
what do you mean by channels?? like creases?

Can i just say that all of us British folk are NOT like alan5320, don't use the umbrella term that the British are idiots, and i can't see why this wouldn't work on our shoes/boots, the leather all comes from a cow at the end of the day. On a lighter note, nice method, I'm going to go try this now,
ElectrikzZ 1 year ago
If you don't know how to shine your boots then you need to be kicked in the balls.
I mean they showed us how in basic right? here is how you do it without lighter.
#1 apply the polish
#2. Take your brush and buff the shit out of your boots keep applying the polish and buffing until your boots turn a cloudy looking gray(build the layers)
#3. take a cotton ball(moist) and rub it on your boots.
#4. You will have boots that look like diamonds I guarantee.

i'm british and to be honest this method made my shoes perfect thanks

You can also use an electric heat gun instead of a lighter to melt the polish if you're uncomfortable with an open flame. It works just as well.
lmhickey100 1 year ago
will the low quarters take the same effect? its the only shoes that we shine anymore because the ABUs are replacing the BDUs in our DETs...

does this work on british boots ???
PURE293 1 year ago
Whats your problem with the British?
I think this is a great video and use this method all the time with my parade shoes.
bish931 1 year ago
Basically there's a regulation against this in the british/canadian militaries, and we're all a bit mouthy, so excuse the idiots.
Since the heating process 'cooks' the polish into a hard shell, which, on a long enough march is supposed to flake or chip off. I can't verify this though.
I will retain this technique in case of emergencies.
And much as I want to trash talk you over it... I can't help but suspect that my sergeant has done the EXACT same thing you did. Thank you for teaching me, man.

Oh right, now I read it doesn't work with British Boots. How come?
caturn88 1 year ago
it might work, i just but that so the british military would stop talking shit to me for for no reason
rodan9 1 year ago
@rodan9 Well, you know, American ways come over different in the UK. I don't know the reasons for those, but I don't think this is what I want to do with my shoes. Just wondering what the differences are between the boots.
caturn88 1 year ago
dont you ever talk to me like that you american prat your video i crap and the real air force are in the uk not your crapy stuffaye yh thats right !

@alanr5320 fuck you..you stupid british faggot we saved your ass in WW 2 so go fuck yourself! you tea drinking bitch!
Matt2779 1 year ago
@alanr5320 uk has a real airforce? History says you made your first fighter planes out of wood!?
pdiddy5689 1 year ago

Great Job and thank you for taking the time.

man really tape will take off the polish dont use lighters or anything u will get demoted just whan you are bored useally 3 times a week use a kiwi rag and polish / parade gloss/neutral polish(clear) if any cadets at my corp did that they would get demoted and any dont do this
Cody00911 1 year ago
they can do what they want
not all jrotc rotc and military operate like YOUR unit. nor does your unit set the ruless for the rest of the military in any capacity. And if you were paying attention, you would see that in this video the whole boot isn't polished. Where the tape sticks is not an area that is polished. btw kiwi parade gloss is shit.
rodan9 1 year ago
man but if u tape it you will go over it some time like he wentover it and it will make a bump in your boot and man ur boots suck gloss is good if it is fresh and you can melt the bottom of the can on cracked polich or put a penny in it the copper will keep it from cracking
Cody00911 1 year ago
melting the polish in the can will ruin the polish
don't melt in the can melt in on the shoe.
also in the airforce, you don't polish the whole boot just the heel and toe. the tape is to just get a perfect straight line separating the polished from unpolished. A lot of active duty honor guards also do this. also you don't need to worry about a "bump" because your not supposed to be touching shoes.
rodan9 1 year ago
@Cody00911
Obviously you don't use super-strong tape, just a protector to guard the bits that will flake when moving if this type of shine is used on them.
MrCameronnoble 1 year ago
nice! but im only 12 so i cant use the lighter so i used a hairdryer.

theburnleylad 1 year ago
