  • The way in which we give aid, particularly to India and Pakistan, is not because those countries are screaming out for it, it is because our government feels obsessively compelled to give it. India has been honest enough to stand up and say they don't need it, but others will not. Because of the way our government gives aid, it comes as an unexpected windfall to the countries who receive it, and therefore can be used for sinister gains. You have to coerce people to pay tax to fund it as well.

  • I think it's a good idea. Faith in Jesus Christ and doing good work in His name will also help poor people.

  • Labour have spent 11 billion on child poverty over the last 13 years,a report carried out over the past years says the children of great britain are no better off now than they were 13 years ago.

  • Great to see the UK Conservatives committing 0.7% GNI towards global poverty alleviation by 2013. The Australian Conservatives should take a page of that book.

  • Ah now you hit the true issue nail on the head, but also answered your own question.

Country A owes Government B money for "Aid", Government B pleds to people to help Country A, in turn Country A gives Government B money as payment for Aid.

In economics this would be called Perfect Supply and Demand.

While yes there are no doubt good people involved in such causes, it's more often than not governed by people who want repensation for their actions.

  • Given that 50 years of Aid has just resulted in enriching African dictators with no difference to the people, perhaps we need to try a totally different approach. Send in Western charities and NGOs to distribute and administer it, backed up with our troops for security if they are interfered with in any way. Any country that objects or obstructs gets no help. Also, we cannot be serious about helping Africa if we maintian duties against their products or if we subsidise our agriculture by the CAP

  • If you truely want to help others, first you must always take a good look at yourself.

Aid is nice and all, but it is the fault of the western world that most of these 3rd world counteries are in the state they are.

If anything don't you think that if help hasn't worked for the past 50 years, why would it now?

The solution is simple, either re-integrate them into the British Empire; and help them like a kid that left home and couldn't handle the world... or just leave them to it.

  • Straight forward and to the point. Yes, some aid abroad of course, but I still say charity should begin at home and under the same conditions. Money for struggling families in the UK should be targeted and result driven.

Remember we give aid to India and they have a space program - we can no longer afford such insane gestures. Time for sensible priorities and hard thinking.

  • How about, you give AID to the people in the UK who need it, then after you have helped them all, you can reward the rest of the world. Nice idea otherwise...

  • This is not up for debate.

  • I converse with my two faithful servants Frederick/Peter only and no other living or dead.

  • I don't see that 'foreign aid' is a necessary function of the British Gov't.

The British people can, and do, give to charities that work overseas. HMG _borrowing_ money, to give away overseas, makes no sense at all.

  • The best thing about this video is how it tries to dress up hard, uncompromising, right wing money-hawking tactics as caring and cuddly. I agree that aid should be efficient, I just thought the spin was amusing.

  • Man is God

The persecuted executed laughing gods of death.

To say you have to die to go to Heaven is total stupidity for all that is evil death when you are already in Heaven at the bottom.

The meaning of your existence is to defeat all that is evil death not serve it.

My architect for what is to be completed and done regarding my sphere no more all that is man created against my will all that is evil evil death.

    Man is lazy.

    God.

  • Nice spin but the real issue is not addressed. We need to build indigenous capacity first, such that donor funds are used to deliver real aid and development improvements and not encourage corruption and impunity

  • I don't get it.

If the first payment is sufficient for the work that needs to be done, what's the second payment for?

And if the first payment is not sufficient, how can they be expected to get all the work done?

  • Very silly, Mr C.

Giving is a personal act. People should do it because they want to, rather than by the mechanism of State confiscation and redistribution. Why don't you set the Government's international aid budget at zero, and see what the British people achieve without this rather nasty form of socialised charity. You might be surprised...

  • More superb ideas from Mr. C - lets hope you can follow through!

  • It's policies like these that make me realise that I can not vote Conservative at the next election. What a disaster it would be had all of these poor children survived to become adults. The world is overpopulated, and they would simply add to the problem. They should be prevented NOT born! We need to sort out the British problems and realise that we are no longer the head of the British Empire. John Hurrell, Devon

  • Would you be equally happy to allow British children to die for the sake of this noble cause?

  • Quite agree, the first political party that states we will support your firsst born and after that you are on your own will win my vote. Why on earth do we still pay people to breed when we are over populated

    Peter

  • Because otherwise we will be a Muslim country within 50 years. The problem of course is that government distorts behaviour and those most likely to breed because of handouts are those you would least want to be having children

  • @markasol

I do agree, that you wouldn't want them to be a burden to the parent state. As such take advantage of the potencial workforce and natural resources.

As for the Muslim comment, while tbh I think we're already on our way there with an increase of middle-eastern immigration and decline of local belief. Mind in this day and age, I think the values we have should reflect our metropolitan nation and no focus on a single group. We only remain a free nation if there is equality for all.

  • Mr. C. Have you been reading the news in the last few days? You are not in power (I hate this political expression) yet and you are on about overseas aid.Defence is your first absolute priority over entrenching our people and those in foreign countries through welfare benefits and overseas aid.Cut out these first Defence of the realm is your first duty. Before you get my vote I want assurance that cuts in the defence budget is a NO NO.Cut benefits to increase defence spending

  • Totally agree, while I like DC, he must remember defense, espiecially now, is TOP priority, don't go down the road of Labour and cut everything except the bloated NHS and wasteful education system. If you want cuts, cut out the crap in those departments, don't harm the brave men and women of this nation.

  • I agree.

We need that Aid here in the US. If you did that in Britian, you'd find that your socialized medicine would fall apart because it's not effective. Here in America, our deficits would go down, and we wouldn't have the economic apoclypse that Obama's given us.

And we don't need to much government help. Just to keep people above the fire. In Britian they've gone too far, and we're heading there in the US.

We need PRIVATE CHARITY to help, not the government.

  • Utter bollocks, even the right wing don't believe what you said here in the UK. "socialised medicine" is not what we have we have a system that says everyone has the right to a healthy life. It is a gem that we all hold close to our hearts, the NHS is something we feel proud of, we spend less on healthcare than the USA does and get very very good service for poor and rich alike, the rich can choose to go private if they want, but they find the service is very similar.

  • Open your eyes. The US is almost the only nation advancing healthcare with new procedures and drugs which everyone else relies on. We NEED them to stay private. Of course the UK system is socialised medicine, that is just a fact. Many of us are NOT proud of the NHS because it kills people unnecessarily, it's far too bureaucratic and unresponsive, and compared to state systems elsewhere, it is almost Third World. This emotional unseeing attachment you express stops you seeing better alternatives.

  • PS the ad wasn't aimed at British aid but overseas aid.

  • If the ad was aimed at overseas aid, you have to look no further than Zimbabwe to see how we in the west can destroy self sufficiency. When the country was known as Rhodesia, it was the bread basket of Africa. Exporting to the rest of Africa and sufficient for its own. The only problem as far as the UK/West was, the government was white!!!. Once the indiginous took over government, the rest is history. Pete

  • What a disaster that would be if all those babies lived to become adults. Would have to send even more aid.

Let their societies catch up (lower birth rates, i.e. no more 9 children born to each woman, women working) with modern medicine and food production before we send more there

  • Fantastic commercial, love the Conservative Party - supporting you every step of the way!

  • Good video, all your communication should be this stark . The right communication will win you the next election, just spell it out, the people have a right to know, just how bad it is !!

  • From the Humanist Manifesto II of 1973

excessive population growth must be checked by international concord

There is absolutely no point in giving money in aid without tackling the population problem because the situation can only worsen.

The choice must be by international concord as suggested by the Humanist movement.

  • mr cameron this coment as nothing to do with this. check out this weeks top gear with clarksons 8 of our troops died last week because we never had proper vehicles but we have they are playing games on the top gear show its more than sick ask gorden brown to explain this get us an answer please now thank you

  • No, its because of the shitty new general we have in charge.

  • None of these african kids should ever have been born. Aid should go to africans who dont have children

  • Again, the Partys of the UK Fail to see that this is HAPPENING RIGHT HERE! We have Millions of Children, dropping out every year of school. We have thousands of Miscarriages a year. We have a Population swamped in Debt. We need chance in all fronts, Conservatives have made a campaign "Aid the schools" that are on tiny budgets instead. Yes we have duties to humanity, but we also have duties to our country, which is also starving and depressed.

  • A simple and effective idea. It's amazing/shocking that we don't already do this.

  • great video - very emotive.

  • very good advert, nicely done

  • Yeah I agree with Fakweet on this. As they have always been, they are hoping to secure a future for the people like themselves.

  • All government is using violence to attain special privileges for special interests. Conservatives, socialists, any of them. There is no such thing as a "government FOR the people".

  • Labour has actually achieved a reasonable amount and what many people view as working class has shrunk as a bracket anyway. As a result of things like the minimum wage and increased benefits many families are out of that bracket now. Plus this country has moved away from industry into insurance and internet business. Conservatives aren't that different from Labour in who they try to "secure a future for". Gordon basically bows to big business...always has done...always will. FSA proves that.

  • Thats why we need to elect the liberal democrats, for a government committed to real progressive change.

  • During the Thatcher years people, a lot of children included didnt have to fear poverty because they were in it.

Can anyone believe that the party of trickle down economics and big business could ever care about the conditions of the working class.

  • Get a life! Lady Thatcher did what was needed to fix the country. Class is nothing to do with it! You put yourself into 'Classes'... try to better yourself and move on from the idea that people are born into some sort of system where they are grouped together.... people are individuals... class is a way to segregate and is only used by socialists to gather support via making people feel alienated.

  • I agree. The class system, like race, is an arbitry way of grouping people, almost always for political gain.

It's a form of "divide and conquor".

  • So true. Thatcher was a true patriot, and the only thing people can say bad about her was how she neglected the working class/unions etc. Well she did, and the country was better for it. People are individuals, not stuck in static class structures, the will and support should be there to allow them to acheive.

  • looool

  • this video wasn't about the working class was it!!!

  • The point is still valid. The Tories have never cared for anyone but their upper class pals...

  • Yes because Thatcher didn't hard working families to buy their own council houses did she?

I presume Geoffrey Robinson, Lord Mandleson, Lord Faulkner, Lord Levy etc are all men of the people. Next you will be telling us Tony Blair is working class.

  • great idea.
