  • The reading before the boil is important for all grain brewers to help calculate efficiency into the kettle. This allows "during the boil" adjustments for hop utilization, evaporation rate, and mashing efficiency. This is often refered to as "Starting Gravity." After the boil, of course, is your "Original Gravity."

  • I thought you had to take your reading after the boil, the wort will be more concentrated after some evaporates. Am I right or wrong. thanks for the help.
