I love how this song seems to be for those emotions you're wordless to explain. Feelings you feel all at once, but that you don't have one word for. It's not sadness or nostaligia or pity, because to say it felt like that would be to unthread that emotion from all the others. You just have to count on one of the images to create that exact mix in a way you recognise.
@steampunkfangirl Too all, gossip is an unrelenting evil that sweeps away all intelligent conversation and fear of God. It not only destroys the person who bears tales, but it destroys the reputation of the subject of this perfidious and malicious evil.
Well if you love the dysfunctionality of Nancy and her clan, you'll likely enjoy Morel Oral. The creator (Dino Stamatopolous)(a.k.a. "Star Burns" on Community) also employs the moving power of The Mountain Goats to snap your heart-strings.
You can chase happiness or run from pain. But you cant run from pain it will be there when you go to bed and before breakfast.Happiness lets you forget but pain forces you too hope. You say this cant last, today could be different but all you can do is hope for just one good day and on that day you say something just might change.
Awesome song. I haven't heard alot from the mountain goats, i'm trying to remedy that now. This is a great song, great poetry. I'm curious about the "stick pins & cottens I left in the top drawer" part. Is this a heroin reference? I never refreted to syringes as stick pins but I could see that being the case, cottens well that just makes sense. That's the first thing my mind went to when I heard it but I dont' really know anything about the band. am I way off?
@smally804 No, you're correct. It's a heroin reference. The singer in his youth had a drug problem, this song is about letting those mistakes and bad memories behind. "Let 'em all go."
Or at least, this is how I interpret it. When he says, "I wanna sing one for..." I think it's a reference to self destructive behavior and its effects and influence on those around.
What I love about The Mountain Goats is that the songs are beautiful whether you listen to the wonderful lyrics or not. It's great that some people out there actually make good songs.
@ScottZaborski: I actually lost all the pictures I had collected and used in this video and needed that image too, because it was so striking and stuck in my head. I used Google Goggles to take a picture of it and the mighty Goog found it. It's a Diane Arbus photo called "Teenage Couple." Hope this helps.
if you make the video fullscreen and take screenshot you will be able to get it, it might not be as good quality, but better than nothing. hope this helps
@ScottZaborski I don't know? He just talks about the Mountain Goats in Question Friday, so i seached the mountain goats on YouTube and clicked on this...
a small list of the things i first felt when i heard the mountain goats follows: insprired, unimportant, uplifted, and hopeless. But when it was over i was smileing, it gave me hope for the future.
@CrazyMongo you will love the show up until the last season. I enjoyed it but im getting mixed results from family / friends. It gets kind of lame but i still liked it
Wow. I haven't heard this song since the weeds episode that featured it aired 3 years ago yet I remembered enough of the lyrics to find it. Amazing song. Absoloutely amazing lyrics.
initially heard this on weeds like the rest of the world. for some reason, every time their music is in something, i can pin-point it automatically. personally, i think that's a sign of great musicians.
Regardless of if you like an artist or not, any person who understands the composure and writing of music understands what an incredible lyricist and writer John Darnielle is.
Mountain Goats lyrically are incredible. Their symbolism and wordsmithing is amazing, granted their instrumentals aren't the greatest; they do have a strong understanding of synecdoche. All Hail West Texas - Coroner's Gambit - Bitter Melon Farm - We Shall All Be Healed - Sunset Tree all of these are kick ass albums. Most people don't care to listen fully to their music, because their music is simple at first, but the more you loisten to it the more meaning and feeling you get from them.
god i needed this song, Throughout my experiences i can never forgive myself for any thought that i disagreed with later, where every time I hurt someone, every single accident, I guess what I am trying to say is I never could forgive myself and let go... in a way this inspires me to try
@777gsusfreak If by a bunch you mean like... one... then yeah I guess you are right. Christian rock sucks btw, its just a conduit for a collective's opinion instead of an expression of yourself. Makes my ears bleed more than death metal.
