@bestamerica Today, the only thing Israel doesn't manufacture for its own tanks is the engine, but the concept of smoothbores is indeed German. Since politics kept it from being sold to Israel, Israel developed its own cannon starting a bit less than 30 years ago.

Its external size is the same as that of the old 105mm cannon (which made it possible to upgrade older tanks), and it comes along with an exceptionally good thermal sleeve (the best I know of so far).
