  • YOU ARE HAVING A GOOD TIME DIGGING CLAM AND SO WITH YOUR FAMILY. GOOD LUCK NEXT TIME.

  • Dont you just love it when people think they dig a geoduck and find out later its just a horse/gaper clam?? Thats until i show them my duck. First of all fourgotten is 100% right when saying the g-duck is from. I live in Washington st. where the g/duck is abundant but harder to find for us sport harvesters because they are in deep waters, so you have to wait for some super-low tides(-2.0 to -3.0) to get at them. Well you guys might want to visit Washington in the near future to get the REAL DEAL

  • may i ask where in cali is that? :D

  • @MychalMonstrousity Half Moon Bay!

  • ba con oi, o day la cho nao vay ?

  • @hoa7333 Half Moon Bay.

  • Geoduck are rarely found south of Puget Sound.

They are unable to fit within their shells. The fleshy mantle and neck bunch up around the outside of the shell on all sides. A gaper clam can fit all but it's neck into its shell.

Geoducks grow to a much larger size (sometimes over 10 lbs) whereas gaper clams can get as large as about 6 lbs, but are usually smaller.

Also the shape of the shell and depth is more consistent with gaper clams.

    It's a very common mix-up.

  • Sorry to disappoint you... that's no geoduck. That's a Fat Gaper (Tresus capax).

    Fun clams to dig!

Is that half-moon bay in Oregon or California?

  • o-o" what's the difference, and how can you tell? LOL

    cali.
