I have had the temporary version of what you are going through!!! (24-36 hours at a time) from a reaction to resperidone... I have almost suffocated many times while I had it. Have doctors tried an IV of Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) on you?

@Silveralch3mist Benadryl is for extremely acute dysotnic reactions and has to be done right away, not dysotnia. there are no  ccures for dystonia, and few medications to use, none made for it except botox.. I have worsened alot since this was taken

I have it. Cannabis helps, heat helps.

Alcohol makes it worse, anxiety makes it worse, cold makes it worse.

Also quinine and magnesium help.

Cannabis may help you , you don't have to smoke it... a vaporiser or oil or tincture is an alternative way. I know of people with similar conditions who have had great results. Just a thought, i understand if it is out of the question.

@joshuai7 no access 4 yrs, makes CNS worse since brain damage & making dystonia convulsions worse, I bedconfined most, hash would be nice thou doesn't affect my CNS as much, some use the thick black oil for cancer on the east coast rick simpson, tincture interesting wonder thou if it would affect my CNS worse thx comment, I much worse off now, this was a moment I could get to computer and be able to speak too long ago, hope to upload more soon and my cause going finally, have some 4 me pls :)

@erindystonia Erin is that u from Wego, I bedconfined my joints herniated from the dystonia giving out in my spine.I have 2 wheelchairs but not in wheelchair housing go figure - hope to be doing more very soon

@ericcare2 thx Eric, odd as I am mostly bedconfied for 20 years from ME/CFS & brain body damage since 2003, I didn't think of this as an activity, but it surely is isn't it & I have missed being able to do more. You used SSRI for how long? dystonia noted during use or after use?

I used for 3 years starting and stopping paroxetine, sertraline, fluoxetine, and after that I'm not the same person before taking these drugs, have a little stiffness of muscles and movements of the face.

@Jorgeroots I didn't know what dystonia was,  I have releazlied it started in the late 90's in muscle spams in face, then my whole body, then acute, and movement disorders, antdepressants from mid-1996-2003, tried 2x prior both put me in ER. 2 types of dystonia, spasmodic spread throu body & full body movement disorders. Also Neuroleptic Maligant Syndrome, alot of drugs besides neuroleptics can cause it. much Healing to you.

Someone close to me is trying to wean him/herself off Paxil (an SSRI). It is extremely difficult. Now I find that weaning abruptly can cause serious and permanent symptoms. This is frightening. And it sounds like B.C. recently has been more interested in the Olympics than in taking care of its people's health.

@bodryn been there done that, all antidepressants can cause dystonia except MAO's that I know of & other drugs they don't tell you. yes withdrawl can do damage have 2 be careful. they brought me off 12 years of drugs in 2 months & kept most damage off med records. Paxil one of worst for withdrawls for antidepressants, not dystonia's. Don't do abrupt! go slow, google yahoo groups 4 help getting off safe, benzo's, antidepressant's all their drugs. Do your own research.

I really feel for you, Cheryl. By the way, from what I know, Tardive Dyskinesia is practically inevitable if one is on antipsychotics long enough. Even the modern ones aren't free from these, I believe. Some relief can be had from certain drugs, but they say there is no cure.

Do you know the difference between God and a psychiatrist? God knows He's not a psychiatrist....

@bodryn I was told it was TD, I have lip smaking which may be part of seizure activity or just TD. This IS DYSTONIA, spasmodic spread throu body so generalized, also have full body slow rapid jerking look like seizure also generalized as whole body 2 types, have to edit & so they can see & get up, they cover for on my med records still. dystonia is on & from antidepressants & 3 months bipolar meds I didn't need. I was l slipped neuroleptics told for sleep for ME/CFS !! but couldn't tolerate

I have been taking Cymbalta for about a week now and just started getting horrible muscle cramping pains from my waist down could this be linked to what you are talking about? I have been on and off different kinds of antidepressants for over five years now! Does it seem I have a symptom of dystonia? How can I tell? Thanks and I truly feel for you. if mucles ligaments are cramping tell your doctor asap, ask to see a neurologist, perferably one that knows about dystonia & neuroleptic malginant syndrome (i had damaged me for life), cymbalta lists it & others as adverse side effects, always research any pill u put in u r mouth first - rxlist(dot)com/cymbalta-drug . it is still spreading through my body on top of damaged muscles & ligaments & movement disorders. increase of antidepressants increases chance of adverse events

there is genic dystonia & also caused from other secondary causes, like illnesses or damage prior can pre-dispose you to gettting it. I just found out that they don't even consider this a disability in bc , canada so I was told today. rather shocked me, althou I on disability for other reasons

i have chornic head pains from abrupt ssri cessation done to me by a psychiatrist. pain is so severe i take powerful narcotics to dull the pain. i have feelings of stiffness in my head, face, mouth, and eyeballs as well as now spreading to neck and ears. doctors say its not dysonia but i disagree, these sensations are from abrupt ssri withdrawal. did you get what i had when you were taken off ssri's?.

all antidepressants can cause dystonia, you can develop it during or after. if it's spreading, and your muscles are getting STIFF (cramping often opposite way as well), it sounds like dystonia.I wish you well, do research dystonia and nerve damage , docs often won't fess up often because they know the drugs they gave did do damage

never heard of the whole head, althou much of my face & neck r affected on/off. they give more drugs, of course, many that can cause dystonia themsevles or can more damage or addictive, if its 4 life may not care. DBS deep brain stimulation, brain surgery, body surgery (cutting tendons), botox, electrical impulst 2 nerves make them work anotherway. I looking for alternative therapies & not much out there, except detoxing. damage done to the basial ganglia (sp?)of the brain.

yes do dextox, on/off lots more to go & have fillings in & very ill with ME/CFS and FM since 1991 bed/houseconfined, total almost since 2003. got dystonia & muscle & ligament damage on the drugs& still progresses off them ie, gets worse.weaned, too short, was negligence again. no relief, just degrees, until i get medical care denied, will help, and ND to heal. I was given almost every antidepresant there was from 1996-2004 repeatedly, different does, other pills not told what they were,nightmare

psychiatrists are killers. they should be imprisoned for crimes against humanity. do you take any opiates for the pain?. what meds do you take for your dystonia?. i think i have cranial/facial dystonia as it feels stiff and the nerves in my head hurt severely that i take opiates for the pain. i feel a tight rope around my head which them moves to the top and feel like a muscle cramp that causes me intense pain. i got it from abrupt ssri's withdrawal (high doses). done to me by a shrink.

long list all antidepressants excpet MOA's that I know of can cause dystonia & possibly paxil althought it has alot of problems as well. I know the SSRI's/SNRI's are the worst - Prozac, Zoloft, and tryclillics, trazdadone, also Celexa is very bad & can cause neuroleptic maligant syndrome as well. the list i was on was long I couldn't tolerate them so they kept giving me another. I also had acute dystonia from Tegretol, in 4-5 days, seizure medication given for misdiagnosis of bipolar

asked if I would consider taking something new if it came out to counter paxil, take mood stablizer, take SNRI,
