Geronimo and Fergus = total cuties! I had a huge crush on Fergus when I saw this back in the '90s. I'm a bit old for him now at 23 but he was a good-looking boy! Plus, you gotta love the Irish accents.
I like the ending of the film better than the book's. It actually felt like there was a message, and I love the fact that Fergus and Geronimo became friends. It was heartwarming without being sentimental. Brilliant film!
Ty, burntunshine, I remembered I saw this (irish) film in French years, years ago, and Yves Boisset's movie of Louis Pergaud's novel (1912) so about people complaining about killing animals or anything, French version 1962 about 50 years after the novel and Irish version 1994, I guess I was an awful teenager with hair :x
WTF ! I really loved this movie .. january 7 ,2011 im a filipino from philippines but i go here in france for my studies .. im currently studying french language and our class is special .. we are studying this story .. but the original . we have the book of this story in french and the title is Le Guerre des boutons ... when i read the book its nice and so i watched this movie in english *.. thumbs up for this film .
i have been looking this movie for a long time, thanks for putting it up, only bad thing is that everytime that i heard the msn sound of the backround, i would pause the movie and check if it was from my computer jjajajjajja but that isn't to bad, thanks a lot again
As Fergus and Geronimo were both climbing up the mountain, I wonder why Riley wasn't at the bottom of the mountain with the other Bally members even though the other Bally members hated Riley. I thought it would have been good if Riley was there because, it would probably be his way of hoping Fergus would get caught, and once Fergus got caught, he should have been there to say a line out of anger something like "good, and stay away and I hope to never see you again for the rest of my life!"
I understand that the police were after Fergus to send him away but, I wonder why Fergus's Bally members were happy at 2:03 that he was caught if they really like him.
Also, did they send Geronimo away with Fergus on the helicopter because he was on the mountain with Fergus since it was never mentioned that they were going to send Geronimo away too (just Fergus)? If that wasn't the reason, the police on the helicopter should have held Fergus and landed the helicopter to let Geronimo go.
@afriendofbean I think there just happy that Fergus is down off the mountain and out of harms way, not that he was caught. Geronimo was sent away because they think he stole the tractor and made Riley drive it...
That sounds true. I guess Fergus's Bally members were scared if he was going to fall off the mountain. Also, that was a good reason for the police to send Geronimo away if they thought he stole the tractor. (I do remember that Riley was driving the tractor first and Geronimo secretly jumped on and forced Riley to give him the keys where Geronimo drove the tractor into the "Ballys" clubhouse. So I guess that might be another reason Geronimo was sent away for almost getting someone killed).
It looks like an orphanage since during the movie it was mentioned that people are trying to send Fergus away so that he won't cause any problems. Also, I think the people who he was living with were not his real parents which is another reason why they were sending him away but, I might be wrong with that.
saw this film when i was in bording school in south africa. the mates loved it. with 200 kids in one place you can def relate since most the chaps were ancesters of the brits
yeah.. well pretty much everyones 'descendants' either came from ireland, england scotland or wales. it was an english speaking school. people immigrated from great brittian in 1820 to settle south africa. on friday nigts we all ( age groups ) went their persepective common rooms and watched movies soo we watched this one. well, when 200 guys who are this age with somewhat the same background in SA you know shit is going to fly! lashes were a common thing haha :P needless to say, we loved it!
Good point. However, I wonder what the guy at the door was going to say to them since the screen froze as he was about to run in. To me, I didn't think that it was necessary to have that guy coming or running to the room at 5:21 (they should have skipped or cut the scene out from 5:18-5:21) when the screen should have just shown Fergus and Geronimo only. With the guy running into the room felt like the movie didn't end where he didn't get to say his line not knowing what he was going to do.
Excelente Pelicula, un universo lleno de metaforas filmica, de sensaciones y miradas retrospectivas. Muy bueno, me recuerda mi infancia. Moshenga VIII
this is a very memorable film. but i doubt is this the one i saw. this is the 1994 one and has the same synopsis on wikipedia ,as the one i saw. this movie has a great effect on me up to my dreams. i only saw it twice. its very great!!!
Yes, that would be great. It would probably have to pick up from the ending here where the guy was going to run into the room saying to Fergus and Geronimo "you two have made a mess ruining pillows making feathers flying around."
This films a blessing! Thanx 4 taking the time to upload 8- ) these kinda films are deep bcoz there not all about effects and they always have that heartfelt beauty, perfect ending 2 good memories! Peace and love x
Since Fergus was the gang leader of "The Bally's" and Geronimo was the gang leader of "The Carrick's" both of them were very strict gang leader members in their gangs when they were fighting in the wars so maybe when the priest said to them "you think you're both hard men" he must have meant something like "you think you're strict boys" and when the priest said that he's a hard man, he must have meant that he's a strict priest.
Ahh i fecking love dis film :] one me fav and one de ebst that was made in ireland along with the wind that shakes the barley. two very good films but this one, this is bloody brilliant! first i ever seen since i was a kid xD ach sure i'd want ta try see if i can find it on tape or dvd...though de tape era has gone more or less...
from the start of this is all filmed in a valley called coomerkane valley in Glengarriff. they didnt go that far up the cliff.the start till 2:23 is all in Glengarriff
That's probably Monsignor John in SLC (if I'm thinking of who you're thinking? The Fr John I was refering to was in Las Vegas, Fr. Tom, in SLC. Both very good and decent men!!
I want to know on Geronimo is John Coffey, someone knows that it(he,she) does now, or something on?? Not at least a photo since(as,like) one sees now of adult jajaja
Some of the comments here regarding "priest's" are sad. Not all Priests are bad people. Yes, there have been some very serious, bad deeds, done by some Priests. And it is "those" Priests that have given a lot of the good priests a bad rap. I am very fortunate to have known two terrific Priest growing up. One was in Las Vegas, and the other in SLC. These were caring compasionate men who treated people with kindness and respect. Thanks Fr. John, and Fr. Tom.
im soo into geronimo -- brings back memories -- i searched for john coffey.. couldnt find anythin aout 'HIM' but some other dude.. anyone experienced the same prob?
watching this film years after the first time i watched it, the quote "if needs be, I can be hard" seems too worrying. I wonder what happened when the father got to them. :S
I agree but, I wonder what that guy at the door was going to say or do to them since they destroyed a pillow and they were being loud and noisy since the screen froze when the pillow was destroyed and when the guy was going to run in. (Maybe the guy was going to yell at them by punishing them in a room and/or separate them in different rooms.
That sounds right since both Fergus and Marie were from Ballydowse, Marie must have felt more close to Fergus than Geronimo, so after the war ended, they all decided to become friends which probably explains that Geronimo became a friend of Marie since he's from Carrickdowse (a different village from Marie). However, I wonder why Marie at the end didn't want to say who the husband and friend was where she was either too shy or, she wanted the audience to have fun and think for themselves.
geronimo is sooo handsome..keep on searchin him in the net but just can't find him...hehehe..lovin this movie soo much! oh yeah! go go! for john clear too!mwaaah!<3
Exellent movie! I've been looking for it on dvd for years! Watched the whole thing, all eleven parts. Thanks so much for posting. I'll defin8ly sign the petition. Reminds me sooo much of growing up as ayoung fella in Cork. All the best and good luck to ye.

She married fergus and geronimo was there oldest friend...also i recon Fergus went to live with the teacher.
