Hith is caused by high Nitrates from lack of water changes and poor water quality. You should invest in some cichlid salts.

@rex4x4 I used to have one when i was 14 about 12 yrs ago. The thing went from 2 inches to like a foot and a half in under 2 years. They are sweet though. They have to breath air and you have to lock the lid down or they will jump out.
