  • I get scared just looking at this!

  • Великолепные здания строили в Нью-Йорке в 20 веке. Сейчас-же искусство умерло! В угоду времени и экономичности строятся бесформенные однообразные стекляшки...

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug

  • That made me dizzy just to watch.

  • If that was the courage of the builders imagine the soldiers.

  • that generation was something else... now look what we're stuck with...

  • wow thats crazy

  • wow

  • just a regular day pf my life...

  • No way!

  • Hats off to these guys man. I can't even walk across the Brooklyn Bridge without catching a panic attack.

  • Minecraft?

  • come cavolo facevano?

  • Incredible! Thank you!

  • Wheres the Hi-Fiz and the health and safety team? I admire every last one of them

  • Amazing! Thank you!

  • How can I get this footage? I want to use it for a project. :D

  • i bet when OSHA sees this they shit brix

  • These men still exist, we've just locked them all up.

  • same thing today just dont let osha see u

  • Must be the worst job ever. I respect them!!!

  • Back in the day when people had balls, and fell off the building with their balls... Safety > balls.

  • wow crazy i respect them

  • I've got sweaty hands from watching this

  • crazy mother fuckers lol i would shit my pants

  • That guy at 0:28 just doesn't give a fuck.

  • @arnielovesdorian LMFAOOO. Seriously!

  • 0:27-0:32 easy going xD

  • Back in the day anyone could go up and construct anything lol.

  • haha brave fuckers, now adays ya have to wear high vis jackets and have safety meetings before you even go near a construction site. back then a worker was like..."right im off to work, gonna climb up a 100 story building walk around on narrow beams without any safety harness.

  • Real men in those days balls of steel

  • Of course it's easy to look at this and say "oh man, they're real brave," but do you think they wanted to work under such conditions? And do you also think that they would refuse help with today's technology?

Construction had no safety because safety had not really been pioneered yet. They just went with whatever they had, and found people to get the job done. People fell off that building. 40+ years of life down the drain. They were forced into being brave.

  • vd real fkn shiit WELLL said!!!!!!!!

  • Health and safety and risk assessments pfft!

  • doesn't seem that hard...

  • Try walking across a 1,000 foot high narrow beam while carrying heavy buckets of rivets and tools and maybe your lunch and a small backpack while trying to stay alive and not fall 1,000 or more feet.

  • @peanutbuttersticky

U just made me piss myself roffling

  • omfg

  • For the love of god, please tie your shoelaces.

  • I'm surprised the building didn't collapse..under the weight of their massive balls

  • so,, where stood the video man?

  • So i take it back in those days men had nuts the size of basketballs?

  • JEEZE!!! Talking about NO SAFTY & OSHA!!!!!!! Man, That's CRAZY! I always get a kick when I see that there was no "Hard Hats, Safty Nets, & No Safety Harnesses With Cables back then. I love how fast they built the Empire State Building. Just over a year!!!! WOW!!!!!

  • The construction of the Empire State Building set records that still haven't been broken to this day. Dubai can't even come close. America does it first... others merely copy...

  • need life insurance??

  • thumbs up if u would never do this !!!

  • @Hotters70601ben No, in no way would I want a conflict. I just don't get the point of me asking. Sorry if I seem unfriendly. 1 WTC: August 1968

    2 WTC: January 1969

    3 WTC: 1980

    4, 5, & 6 WTC: 1970

    7 WTC: 1983

    Completed

    1 WTC: December 23, 1970

    2 WTC: July 1971

  • @Hotters70601ben How could I know? I am not from America and neither do I care for fallen monuments of the modern world.

  • health and fucking safety!!!!!

  • I think people forget how well we use to do things...even just less than a 100 years ago.

  • thats awsome

  • Were we building for free?

  • These men were real men. They did an incredible feat all without safety straps & all the safety OSHA laws they have now.

  • long way to be up if u r a pussy

  • omg haha i couldnt believ the guy sliding down im scared of hight i almost puked there

  • Those were real men...pussy's these days ...

  • wtf were they even wearing safety harness's.?

  • My heart is beating very fast when i watch this. :X

  • These builders were mainly native americans and canadians, the reason for this is that they had no concept of danger from heights.

  • @rubiconyoufag Not true, native americans did a lot of the steelwork (and they were often fearless of heights), but european immigrants (especially scandanavian and irish americans) made up by far the largest number of workers. This includes all the work done at heights. The building work was actually deliberately started on st patricks day.

  • @TheJay9002 thanks for the correction, it was a stupid statement anyway, whoever worked on this building had to be fearless of heights, where they originate from is commpletely irrelavent. :)

  • @rubiconyoufag Nah it wasn't stupid bro, its true that the native americans had a reputation for fearlessness at heights. I used to work in construction and they were legendary for it, although I never worked alongside them myself. I heard a few rumours it was almost religious or spiritual, some belief they had about dying from a fall or something, but its probably bullshit. But yeah, back in those days all construction workers had serious balls. Probably because it was do it or starve lol.

  • Kong would someday climb to the top.

  • looks like any modern construction site aside from the complete lack of concern for safety :p

  • I heard most of these guys were American Indians, they were not afraid of heights or probably anything else for that matter. You have to have big ones to do this kind of work.

  • these guys were the pioneers of our trade as ironworkers, and are by far the most fearless of any

  • Brave men, having to risk their lives for bread. It's not romantic or cool, it's very sad. Reminds me of all the slaves buried in the great wall of china... but fantastic footage!, thanks for the post.

  • All world's real man, have died.

If you watch this vid, these guys have balls of steal, nowadays people are pussies

  • Are you saying you are a Pussy? I Think your Wrong

  • @vdvpj steel

  • @vdvpj HEHEHE...YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!

  • @vdvpj Your comment reflects only your perspective, and not reality. Ironworkers still very much exist, and perform feats of daring every day. Trust me, I know this for a fact.

  • @capnamerca I was just exagerating actually.

  • @vdvpj true dat

  • @vdvpj they still do it this way with balls of steel checkout americas iron workers

  • @vdvpj You have know idea how right you are. There are no true real men in the world, not in any country.

  • @vdvpj do you have the balls to do this?

  • @vdvpj speak for yourself

  • @vdvpj no, they just didnt have osha back then....i feel sorry for some of the workers back then working in the conditions they did . thank god for work regulations...esp safety

  • talk about major BALLS!!!

  • I heard somewhere that they needed to bring in aborigines from canada to build it cause they weren't affraid of heights.

  • i would crap myself up there that guy who slides down the pole...isnt harnessed on or anything!!!

  • 0:20 holy shit hes crazy

  • Proper guys getting the job done without fannying around with harnesses and stupid yellow "safety" jackets. Whatever happened to progress?

  • @CodeTwo2 he fell from the 78th floor.

  • 2 worker speaking on the level 70 during building the Empire State Building.

    -Hmmm the ambulance was quick.

    -How do you know that.

-Because my hammer falls 5 minutes ago :D

  • why do people build dangerously tall towers?

  • Takes a brave (or really, really really stupid) man to be able to do something like that !

  • They planned for a death a floor to build the ESB. They have 5 in total. Thats pretty impressive by the standards of the day.

  • yea at 0:16 its ok to stand on the edge

  • Balls of steel.....

  • The parachute was originally invented to escape from highrise buildings in the case of emergencies.

  • i understand that they aren't afraid to work up there, because if you fall you die and it doesn't even hurt. :D

  • Did people really had no emotions in that time?

  • "Don't ever let anyone tell you America is not a great country"

  • @sz42781 America is not a great country. i just told you. these people that worked up high, and did all the dangerous work were natives from Canada. They had to higher people from canada because everyone else was to scared. Why didnt they use other countries you may ask? Because Americans are ignorant sons of bitches and Canada is the only country that puts up with Americas bullshit. So go make some smog, spill some oil or kill a baby seal you fucking Yankee.

  • @daddykongtris I may not ask, LOL because I have American relatives who worked on the steel, so bang your head off a wall you jealous bastard HAHAHAHAHAHA. BUNDLE UP MOTHERFUCKER HAHAHAHA!

  • @daddykongtris Your right, many of them came from Quebec.

  • @daddykongtris where did you get that info from you dumbass? Quit being a whiny bitch..

  • @daddykongtris You are probably referring to the Mowhawk Natives who worked on this building (and others) who saw it as a rights of passage of sorts. They were originally from Mowhawk Vally in Upstate NY. Then later migrated to Quebec. Get your head straight.

No disrespect to Canadians, all disrespect to you.

  • @daddykongtris

Thank you admitting what an idiot you are.

It puts any doubt into oblivion.

    Have you considered being admitted?

  • @daddykongtris It wasnt just Canadians that built it, there was tons of Irish and Italians too and other immigrants that came in at that time. And why are you trying to talk about the US enviromental issues on this video? Just keep bringing your trash into Michigan why dont ya.

  • Comment removed

  • @daddykongtris Start banging that head against that wall now, HAHAHAHAHA

  • wow its amazing how things were

  • I did a report on this, turns out that the steelworkers who worked up high were indians from Canada, no one was brave enough to do it but these guys had been high up in the mountains there hole lives. There were only 2 deaths. Oh did i also mention that my ancestors owned a corner of the land it was built on? And that my family recieved checks for the land because it was for rent up untill the 1950's?

  • @thetitanicisdead i have also heard that there were finnish builders too, they weren't afraid of heights for some reason

  • balls of steel these dudes where hard working men

  • Awesome - clearly built before unions.

  • @canuck88x That's partially why unions were formed. No work rules,no safety regulations,no death benefits for your surviving family members if you die on the job, no health care and no pensions!

  • the guy on the left at 0:21 has got to have quite a pair

  • oh my firetrucking god, i would have shitted my pants, if i woulden haved to build this high.

  • Oh fuck. Why do I watch things like this high? Nightmares coming tonight. I'd rather meet a hungry werewolf in a cemetery than even be a harnessed windowwasher. NOTHING could get me walking around THAT far up like these early astronauts! Insane.

  • I get dizzy on a 2ft step lader and these guys act like they are on the ground!

  • this engineers got their balls well put, they are not afraid of heights and they didnt even weared protection :OOOOOOOOOOO

  • And this was all before widespread use of Meth as a "construction aide" well maybe that first guy smoked a lil' crack

  • Wish New yorkers still had the spirit of life like this...

  • cool!

  • huh.. OSHA would have a fit if any of this happened today..

  • @ascheylus anyone from osha would have a fuckin spud wrench hangin from their skull if they gave these guys the shit they give us today,....

  • It says that 5 people died while building this ... That is not alot ... And all of you guys are saying stuff like " wow these men have balls and aren't afraid of anything " ... You need to realize that people didn't know any better back then .. There was no such thing as " safety " or " security " .. If we lived around in the 1930's ( when this was built ) we wouldn't even have known the word " safe " ...

  • @Jeopardyfan101 that was before 9/11

  • @Jeopardyfan101 what are you talking about? this is the empire state building, not the world trade center! idiot! and that was before 9/11, like rhexx18 said

  • i guess you have to have a mindset where your not at a height and there's ground where you think there isn't. if you don't have that mindset you will try so hard not to fall that you fall.

  • wow

  • osha would have a field day in todays time

  • I bet these guys got all the pussy!

  • @denzelsnipes69 flapper pussy

  • Jesus...talk about having a head for heights!!

  • @chizzywoo they had harnesses but it still would have been scary, especially when it got windy

  • @rocksoliddude1 Actually they didn't have harnesses

  • fuck, look at the guy just sliding down the girder like he's at a fun park. these men were something else.

  • so how many ppl fell of working on that then

  • omfg these guys aren't fraid of anything

  • @MrHurtta1 In america, they often used Natives and Finnish people at construction sites, because they weren't afraid of heights.

  • @MrHurtta1 they have chuck norris balls

  • @MrHurtta1 back in the day when ppl still had balls... damn shame.

  • @godly80 People still do this type of work.

  • @godly80 do you have the balls to do this?

  • @MrHurtta1 They just do their job or they will get no money

  • @MrHurtta1 I think that they had almost nothing to lose.

  • They built that whole fucking building in 13 months. Today it takes that long to lay the cornerstone.

  • @gpc 14

  • @gpc They couldn't get PERMITS through now in 5 YEARS!

OSHA would have had a field day with those guys walking the girders with NO HARNESS, wouldn't they? It was depression times, though, and I'm sure they

were just happy to have jobs!

  • @gpc imagine if we dont lose our time in useless things how many empire state building we can build :-)

  • @gpc well today there's a lot more to it.

  • i never saw someone climb a rope that fast at 0:00

  • B-A-L-L-S! That's what those guys had.

Tom Brokaw was right on the money when he said they were the Greatest Generation.

If only today's generation were 1/2 as committed. No scratch that- 1/4committed to supporting ther families as these men did!

  • Their risking there lives like that at 0:20, just to feed their family. Now theres a father

  • many highrise workers were mohawk indian ;no fear of height at all.....also worked on frisco bridge,

  • Yes. But if they had a day when they felt they couldn't go up, no questions were asked. They trusted their instincts. Got it built, though!

  • I Am mohawk indian, and my whole family does ironwork, my grandfather could have been working on this building supposedly

  • these oh so heroic builders were just doing any shit to earn a few dimes you crazy idiots.and it already starts to be the same way again.you daydreamers

  • So what's your point?

  • Truly fearless builders in those days! the risks of falling or being blown off those beams didnt exist inside them. I think the spirit of creating these mass marvels was stronger in that generation. Now a days people seem less motivated or driven to put their lives in arms way to build anything.

  • yet in this generation we are building some buildings that are evne taller and the tallest being 20THOUSAND feet tall

  • My Grandfather was involved in building the Empire State Building. To bad they don't have many close up's of the guys that built it.

  • @Rusty2238

You must be very proud of him. He was part of history in the making. These were brave, determined men. God Bless them all!

  • Rusty2238 I bet your grandfather was nothing but fearless. I mean to have this mindset about not falling to your death, is a definition of a SuperHero!! =))

  • God bless your grandfather he must have been a determined man and I must say a massive well done to him and all the bravery that man must have had. I don't know him but my heart goes out to him he was part of the worlds greatest landmark that has ever stood and will ever stand even better that the burj Khalifa and the freedom tower put together.

  • @JamieT96 agreed, its weird like the empire state building is like the best skyscraper in the world!

  • now, they are true carpenters. They have the heart the size of a giraffes'. Not only they have the skills of a monkey's swinging skills but they aren't afraid to develop America's society and inspire the spark that will take place around the world when they compete for the record of the tallest building.

  • This is a lie. Niko Bellic build the Empire State Building.

  • @leetz00r U crazy niko belic is from a game= gta iv get a brain kid

  • You fucking idiot. That was a joke.

  • Back in the old days, real men has the balls size of a basketball that's hard as steel. But now in the modern days... Huh.. They are shy? prooves right there!! ^^^^

  • perfect sucide place :D

  • Strange guy..

  • Ahh the old days,, there was no real safety restrictions for Ironworkers till the mid 1990s, even then they were hardly enforced.. I started 10 years ago, and the difference in safety Enforcing in that time is Considerable,,

  • worksafe?
