he is BRILLIANT - check out "Good Advice"! . . .This version doesn't have the schmaltzy classic ending ~ "Why when you were just a baby, Oh, you're skin fit fine, and it still is gonna fit you, when you're 6-foot-nine - so whether you're fat, tall, big, small, chubby or thin - AIN'T YA GLAD YA GOT SKIIIIN!!"
Notice the internal rhyming - " . . . lemon muRANG, and outside you HANG your clothes". Just a little throwaway that most listeners would never notice, but the man was indeed a lyrical genius. And an underrated singer too!
I have been a huge fan (huger now!) since I was a kid. I sing all the numbers from "My Son the Folksinger" and the "Mexican Hat Dance" was one of my dad's all time favorites. I could always break him up with my Jewish Accent on "Streets of Miami." Thanks for putting him out here!
Very interesting...I'd been a huge fan of his since I was a teenager (thanks, Dr. Demento!) but I'd never actually SEEN him doing his act (thanks, YouTube!). I've just recently bought his box set. Worth every penny. He was one brilliant mofo!
'My Liver Cries Out For You' would be a great title for a country song about an alcoholic!

Drew Carey's illegitimate daddy.

The stuff he says at the beginning reminds me of Tom Lehrer's "Dope Peddler" song.

Was this the inspiration for a TV ad where a cartoon dog sings 'I've got soft Meraklon skin'?

Allan is very right, can you imagine how much better 'Total Eclipse of the Oesophagus' would have sounded?

yes jazmaan, I also noticed another example of internal rhyming, "You'd be dressed in your intestines".
Except Allan sang, "wrapped" (not dressed) before he realized his lips had slipped.

I think Jergens or some skin lotion is now using this version of the song for their commercials, with some alterations to the lyrics of course. :P

I think he was the father of the "observational" comedy and influenced guys like Seinfeld and that Italian guy from "Everybody loves Raymond".
