I visited their place once in about 1977. They slept in bunk beds 5 high-it looked like a barracks at a concentration camp. Their little kids ran around filthy, looking like they'd never had a bath in their lives.
I hear things are a bit more sane and sanitary now, but they still get all their medical care at free public health clinics & Stroger County Hospital. They claim to be self supporting, but still rely on a government services for their members.
But they rely on Government services for health care? Dumbest comment ever! They are Tax payers, you know?!? Are they just supposed to pray when they get sick? Hey kids, sorry your sick but we are self-supporting? What?
If you have a job don't you go to the Doctor? Like I said..they are Tax Payers.

Public health clinics & Stroger Hospital are for the indigent, not the "inconvenienced".
And while my employer DOES pay for private health care coverage, theirs obviously doesn't.
Thirdly, who said they are "Tax Payers"? As a not-for-profit, that's highly unlikely. JPUSA real estate holdings (the main source of county health services revenue) are not subject to property taxation by the City of Chicago or Cook County.

I have wonderful memories of JPUSA from waaaayyyy back in the late 70's. Looks like it's still the same. I may not agree with all their views but they do really good work for people who fall off the track in life. It's not glamourus, but thank God someone's there to do it, and do it with love.
