All this hand waving, they resemble nothing of what I would practically use in martial arts. I know it's a demo but it's so far removed from what martial arts is. Should there not be a line between what is appropriate for 'Open Form' and what isnt? Otherwise you end up with something like this, a very bad dance with a few acrobatics, it's laughable.

it makes me sik that people keep puttin doin trickz and musical forms. Tricks are taking basic martial arts techniques to the next level. It takes more speed and more power to land them. Speed and power is the ground work fro TKD. im a WTF TKD black belt and i fight, Trad & musical and each helps to develop the other.

The problem is though Carl that too many people nowadays concentrate soley on the tricks and not so much on the Martial content. You could take a good gymnast, show them a few hand techniques and get them to throw a couple of punches when they land there tumble run, and they would win at most competitions nowadays. To me that proves that something is severely wrong with todays Martial arts.

a couple things i think i should point out:

1: it's an excellent form. he demonstrated one of his biggest strengths: his extremely clean hand techniques.

2: he DID mess up his swipe. but he's actually really good about them (he just messed up this time :P)

I don't disagree entirely (especially the gymnastics comment) but I believe the fault can largely be laid at the door of the American Karate 'McDojo' and/or quality of teaching.

I'm no fan of TKD *at all* but Ernie Reyes has a fantastic organization.

I don't usually tell anyone about my Shotokan Karate because of the reputation 'Karate' has in the States (it's a kids playtime/past-time) where the actuality of my training was very different..heh
