  • I love magic :D

  • This is clear proof of magic.

  • fundamentally, the superconductor is an electromagnet which repels the magnet. if you're pondering, the reason as to why this doesn't function with regular magnets is due to the fact that regular magnets do not produce a persistent electrical current and thus, magnet's do not repel each other without making the levitating magnet spin off in all directions

  • The answer as to how he manages to perform this is very basic. A superconductor (a substance that exhibit magnetic properties when cooled to a certain temperature) is placed on the bottom and cooled until it exhibits magnetic properties. Superconductors are different from magnets due to the fact that unlike magnets, when cooled to extreme temperatures, a superconductor will produce a persistent electrical current that will cancel out the magnetic field of the magnet

  • So, uh, how do magnets work?

  • F*KIN MAGNETS!

  • what da FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Do not try this at home... or in the lab wearing shorts! liquid nitrogen is COLD! if you drop the bottle and spill some liquid nitrogen on your balls it hurts - this little trick is the first thing that made me sorry for studying physics... frost bites are for feet and ears, and that's bad enough :(

  • @AlonSandler Personal experience huh? LOL!

  • THIS IS SO AWESOME

  • The square metal expelling its magnatic field that is going against the magnatic field of the regual magnet causing repulsion ...by the way "Magnetic Field" is a great album by Jean Michel Jarr , YOUTUBE it :)

  • @camry1971 I bet you're actually Jean Michel Jarr!

  • @8RJ88 lol I wish I was :)

  • weird shit :o

  • What material is the black block? Graphite?

  • is it true?

    how can i do dis?

can u explain me how 2 do dis?

  • i can do this if i had a string

  • that's probably a magicians magic trick they wear mrtal shoes and then the smoke comes in and they levitate

  • I've madee ice cream using liquid nitrogen :) yummy

  • LOOKS LIKE 2 MAGNETS SAME SIDE PUSHING AGAINST EACH OTHER BUT I MAY BE WRONG

  • @AsianLuigi The reason is because the air(gas) from pouring liquid nitrogen is dence so the object like a small magnet will float. This can be shown by trying to use a bigger object.

And also a superconductor does not have a magnetic field. Sorry fore any bad spelling and u might want to try to find out to conform with a teacher.

  • way to wear gloves while messing with liquid n. oops, there goes your finger

  • what materials did they used?

please someone answer me.... ill make this as my investigatory project...

    asap

  • superconductor u fool! I learnt in the high school, dont u know that?

  • Where does one actually get liquid nitrogen? I could really use some!!

  • @willplez

    ev ery pharmacy on earth??

  • that's just cool.

  • ok i need a step by step directions by halloween, gonna freak some people out :D oo and where can i get some liquid nitrogen

  • I drink liquid nitrogen on the weekends.

  • @bazzarr you must be Chuck Norris

  • @bazzarr yeeee on the rocks! can't beat it!

  • Its obviously a bug.

    I'm going to report it...

    goin' to church, brb

  • @sovietrussiaTommy OMG XD

  • @sovietrussiaTommy Nah,the church belongs to Jesus now,and jesus only reports bugs,he does not fix them,WeFiction liked God's work of fiction The Bible,so they wanted god to join them to make The Bible 2:Jesus goes badass, and Bible:The game (its cool,it has a dual minigun! It can kill the final boss (satan) in 40 seconds,it will also be the goriet game)

  • daaaaammmmmm

  • Liquid Nitrogen... it's a muiricle :)

  • FUCKIN MAGNETS... HOW DO THEY WORK?

  • SUPER DEVIL JUICE!

  • sweet it repels the magnet when close and attracts when far...

  • They should use this kinda technology on transportation, like trains, instead of using electricity and fuel.

  • @gorillazhead but you need electricity to lift something this heavy as a train...

  • @gorillazhead That's why scientist got interested with ths

  • my god I've always wanted my drink and remote to float beside me on the coach, now I know it's possible!

  • i have seen this on sci-fi making real ufo.. at discovery channel .it work with this technique but the bottom magnet must keep freezing.

  • Thermo is awesome

  • superconductor is the answer. and its not fake

  • how can i get me some of them liquid nitrogen's ?

  • @beini321 you need the internets and some monies

  • thats the solution for flying cars!!!

  • so cool

    ..

  • @Chocho5983 geylord...

  • @Chocho5983 no its not...

  • how the hell is he touching it!?!?

isnt liquid nitrogen about -300 degrees

  • liquid nitrogen... that means the black thing is a superconductor right? and the other one is a normal magnet, they repel each other on the superconductor state. but only at low temperatures

  • looks like someone was paying attention in class... )))

  • Thats is so cool. What is the liquid he uses?

  • liquid nitrogen and high temperature superconductor (black thing) ... am I right ?

  • @frona1 Yheap, this effect is called the Meissner effect.

Mind you, every superconductor bulk, has a critical magnetic field, above which the order in the solid breaksdown, and it becomes a regular metall. So this cool effect would fail given a strong enough magnetic field.

  • @frona1 yes u are right...

i saw some guys building a train with that reaction...

  • @frona1 yes you are...

  • @frona1 the super cold creates a super conductor of the material. lookup superconductivity.

  • liquid nitrogen

  • gravity is weak enough for something like this to be plausible.

  • @GGAlice1

Gravity isnt weak it is simply lost to other dimensions given that our string are bound to this dimention where as a gravitons string is circular and is free moving between dimensions. So if gravitons were not lost to different dimensions than there is a chance that gravity is many times more powerful than even electronegetivity ......Word...

  • sooo your saying... that gravity is weak. i knew this theory but my statement is still correct and you agree with me. gravitons also haven't been proven to exist yet.

  • @TheDirtySkankyWhore

do u know how the strings tie into the strong and weak nuclear force?

Merci

  • This is the Meissner Effect. The black square is a superconductor most likely with a transition temperature below 100K. When it is cooled it sets up a magnetic field that repels the normal magnet. However, when it warms back up this field disappears.

  • um... 400 kelvin is ~126 celsius, or 258 fahrenheit. Just how hot was that superconductor BEFORE it was cooled!?

Your theory may be sound, but you might wish to double check your figures. They seem a bit off.

  • That's a magnet and a superconducter. When the superconducter (the black rock) is cooled down just a little bit (to about 400 degrees Kelvin; hence the liquid nitrogen), it creates wierd magnetic fields. The magnet is pulling itself toward the superconducter while the superconducter pushes the magnet away. Or at least, that's how I understand it...

  • superconduction. baller

  • super unknown, if u look closely the video doesn't change, actually, the magnet cracks which changes the position of the top magnet

  • I think the gas of the dry ice makes a field that recist that the magnet will fall...

Kinda a field around the magnet that keeps it in his place...

    Am i right?

  • lol, the dry ice makes a gas field which makes it float...i think...

  • supercooling. awesome.

  • how is that possible???

  • at 1:32 you can see the change in the video, i know how he does it and he ran out of his special fluid ;)

  • lol his special fluid is liquid nitrogen ;)

  • that is really cool

  • superduperconductor.

  • cool

  • COOL!!!! what did you use?

  • can this be a science fair project...i need help

  • I think you need a magnet, liquid nitrogen and a coin-sized battery... good luck

  • what did you end up doing? and what grade did you get?

  • witiich!!!!!

burn that sun of a !@#$

  • BURN THE WITCH!

  • sweeet

  • good

  • that was awesome

  • burn him

  • WITCH!

  • This is the Meissner effect.

  • Yep, totally agree

  • If a magnet is cooled enough it will reverse its polarity. Scientists say same thing will happen to earth in an ice age.

But dude the video is so cool.

  • He pours Liquid Nitrogen (~-190C°), which makes the square metal, a superconductor. A superconductor does weird stuff, amognst them, holding an external magnetic field in place, and not letting change. If the magnet moves, the magentic field will change, ergo, the magnet does not move

  • previous 3 comments are not the real me, guys. I think its one of my friends as a prank. I dont post comments on people's videos...

    -the REAL physiciiiiiiist-

  • Comment removed

  • @Ronblank17 but that happends just with metal or could be any other thing?

  • @hjgfweuryfgwuyegfuyw Well, not sure, it happens with simple elements like tin and aluminum (But not with noble metals like gold or silver). But, there also very complex synthetic superconducting crystals, like Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O ( = Bismuth-Strontium-Calcium-Copper-Oxigen). So its not clear what materials can become SC

To this day, no one has ever said: "look, this formula here describes the system, here is the solution. Obviously, superconductivty is possible in materials 1,2,3 and not a,b,c.".

  • @Ronblank17 I see yes you are right, you are right.

  • @Ronblank17 its called the "miessler effect" i believe

  • @135danny531 nope...

    Meissner Effect

  • @Ronblank17 thanks for the correction haha

  • I think its He... Just cooled down like -270C°

  • Comment removed

  • haha... no, i was jk^^

no, i'm not good at chemistry

  • so what is the black thing?

    some kinda rock or something?

  • Magnet, stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • @Ayumura The "black thing" is a superconductor. It has some very unique physical properties when cooled down to some 400 degrees kelvin.

  • wicked awesome!

  • This is done by cooling down a weak magnet to the point where it begins to superconduct, thus making it stronger and repelling the other magnet

  • do you use 2 magnets ? and what do you use to cool it off?

  • Liquid Nitrogen?

    =P

And yes. You obviously use two magnets.

  • wat stops the magnet from being repelled away and slipping off the magnetice feild

  • I think , this can happen ., because of the silver "disk" isn't as cold as the NO2 cooled stone (or what ever this is) and NO2 has the funktion thinks , who warmer as it, to levitate

    this sit my opinion

    if it is wrong sorry

  • If im not mistaken, this is how chris angel "floats", you always ee steam come out when he walks, and I think theres something metal in his shoes

  • this is not how he flouts its superconducting

  • hehe chris angel does not levitate i real, when you see him fly it is with wires and actors that observe him, Even when you see open sky above him its manipulated. im a magician myself. Remember its just an illusion, magic dosn't exist :)

  • I myself, am a magician, and your NOT supposed to let them know that.

  • if you can make someone beleive something is true when it is not that is illusion.. when symbols and words are used to influence entire nations, that is magic. invoking spirts is magic... oh yes magic is very real

  • are v normal ppl supposed to let them noe that v already noe that magic is nt real?....lol

  • Comment removed

  • @badeandan This ISN'T an illusion. It's a magnet, some liquid nitro, and a superconductor.

  • Superconductivity from like liquid helium.

  • Very cold liquid azote imo

  • you're an idiot...

  • lmfao i love how people try to seem smart using punctuation and capitals yet they fail hard at life i just want to punch you in the fucking face

  • its a superconducter.....

  • what is that?

  • Superconductors rock

  • its a superconductor. its not fake

  • wow.

  • magnet..

  • nice....i do things like this in my basement aka my lab lol ... but i use hardware for computer systems .. maybe we could work togather on something and change the world ... a i'm being for real .. my name is gary monk you can look me up a yale univ college in New Haven CT I'm in my second year here so far ... well hope to hear from u .. happy hunting

  • Have they found a superconductor to operate at room temperature instead of supercooled metals yet? Or is this a physical impossibility?

  • wow we can defy gravity now o__0

  • You guys (kossmikham, zaxt3r) need to chill.

  • uses nitrogen to freeze it

  • its a superconductor

  • man all you guys need to fu$& off and give him a break jezz if thats all your gonna do or say all day is sit in front of your computers and criticize people for doing things that are completely awesome then you need to get a life

  • fast way to loose weight

    lol

  • is that liquid nitrogen?

  • This is the Meissner effect.

  • what was it made of, the black block?

  • ill show this to people and i will be the coolest guy in school....:)

  • lol! them protons and electrons would do anything to stay away from eachother, things like, defy the laws of physics

  • No laws of physics are being defied here. Only forces acting against other forces. And by the way, protons are not in any way involved in what is going on here.

  • what ever only nuetrons, i was just kidding dude no need to turn into a giant nerd on me jeez

  • This is the trouble with American Pop Culture. As soon as the level of intelligence in a conversation rises above the average cocktail party standard someone gets labeled "nerd" or "geek". Being knowledgeable among the common rifraf is considered a stigma, and ignorance is "cool". US is the only place in the world where this is the case, which explains America's increasing inferiority in math and sciences in the developed world.

And by the way, no, it's not neutrons either. Only electrons.

  • Nerd.

  • _The_ problem, huh? Open your eyes, buddy, and you'll see what we the true intelligentsia can see quite clearly: the clash of a younger mentality's carefree internet entertainment with an attempted recollection of rudimentary science taught in elementary or high school. What you see on "YouTube" in no way reflects actual American education as a whole, which factors in college and university students who learn from the greatest minds in the world - any one of which could outsmart you easily.

  • "We the true intelligentsia"?! That one really had me rolling on the floor! That's quite a self-proclamation; no doubt a result of severe delusions of grandeur, induced by vigorous hits on the bong.

I don't have to make generalizations based on YouTube comments. I've seen a more than sufficient cross section of society first hand to be able to make such a judgment. My comments were directed at the intellectually starved and celebrity enslaved masses. That is NOT everyone. But if the shoe fits-

  • "That's quite a self-proclamation...severe delusions of grandeur..." ~ again, the intelligent person's response would be not to criticize, but to attempt to understand what they do not know; instead of considering my actual intelligence, you used your perceptions to assume I am less than a member of the upper classes of intelligence. I'd take offense if I had any reason to respect your opinion, but you give me none.

So yes, you do generalize based on comments. You did exactly so with mine.

  • The conclusions you draw from my comments say a great deal about both your inadequate level of comprehension and your lack of ability to make logical deductions. My comment on the grossly cartoonish explanation of superconductivity was a correction. Nothing more, nothing less. The fact that it is "rudimentary science" only underlines the poster's lack of basic understanding of science. Based on your defensiveness and protests, I suspect your own understanding is just as lacking.

  • "The conclusions [...] logical deductions"

~.~ Look who's talking. I have not yet found any logical fallacy in my arguements, yet yours are abundant with them. You don't even back up that statement in any way...

"The fact that [...] basic understanding of science."

Wait, so you're saying that the fact that we're discussing rudimentary sciences makes me an idiot? wow. -.- I'm not even going to respond to that; it's too much effort to puzzle over your simpleton comments and try to extract logic.

  • Well...I'd love to continue what is likely one of the few forms of social communication you have in your life, but I have a policy of avoiding idiots. So, please, keep your "conclusions" [delusions, rather] to yourself... I'm clicking the "block user" button after this, which I assume will hide your comments from me. If not, I will simply ignore them, as per my aforementioned policy. I sincerely hope, my sadly incoherent Koss, that your flaws in logic do not hinder you too much in life.

  • you have a 'block user' button on comments on a video that's not yours?

  • An acceptable grasp of elementary grammar and cursory recollection of vague facts do not qualify you as "intelligent". Your thought process - which is quite flawed - jumps to what you see and what you interpret it as, not at all factoring in what isn't immediately perceptible but subtly evidenced. A six-year-old could do as much, and without much of your arrogance.

  • If you're seriously trying to generalize the overall American mental capacity based on YouTube comments, I really do pity you.

Maybe one day you'll catch up to the rest of us mentally, but for now, don't think about it. You may hurt your head ^^

  • awesome demonstration

  • Liquid Nitrogen

  • anti gravity exist's

  • The block in the center is a ceramic permanent magnet. The addition of liquid nitrogen drops its temperature within the range of superconductivity. Lots of fun and interesting things can be done with magnets in this particular state. superconductivity is

for example used in particle accelerators.

  • actually the block isn't a magnet. This phenomenon is evident in any superconductor. All magnetic fields create a current in a conductive material, and all currents create a magnetic field. The metal magnet creates a current in the superconductor which in turn create a magnetic field repelling the magnet. Any additional movement will cause a magnetic field to be created to resist the movement.

  • i get it

  • en verdad... hay peña k se aburre muxo verdad pijito ?

  • So.. it is the way the so-called ufos fly?

  • can anyone explain me how did he did it?? what did he used to do it?

  • look like liquid nitrogen.

  • Ok so heres my wacked out theory on how UFOs move.

Aliens can tap into energies from parallel dimensions and they tap into one where the earths core is super cooled just like the black square in the video. And they use that energy to propel their UFO to and fro.

I know, its kinda dumb. But its a conversation starter.

  • @thefinalkut Wow, that's a heckuva conversation you got going there. : P

  • this ain`t science...it`s magic ;)
